1.10.3 on Windows 10 is crashing in Develop persona

Recommended Posts

I have experienced multiple crashes when using this new version, mostly in the Develop persona and when using tools in the details tab (noise reduction and detail refinement)

This happens whether using a RAW image or a lower resolution JPEG transferred to the develop persona.  1.10.1 was working rather flwlessly...is it possible to revert?

You might try turning off the Hardware Acceleration (OpenCL) option under Preferences, Performance. That has helped some users.

I'm using .CR3 RAW files from Canon EOS R5. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Version 471.35.

I am just updating to NVIDIA driver 496.49 to see if that makes a difference.  Switching off Hardware acceleration did the trick, but obviously that is not the final answer.

A further update:

Switching off Hardware acceleration makes the program work, but the new NVIDIA driver 496.49 has "changed" the way the system works.  Previously with NVIDIA 471.35 it would crash during sharpening or noise reduction when processing .CR3 files.  Now with version 496.49 it no longer crashes during the develop phase, but when the Develop key is selected the normal develop  dialog appears with the moving bar, but it just stays there and stays there, appearing to be doing it's thing...for several minutes, until I stop it with Ctrl+ Alt + Delete and use the task manager to stop the program.

Reverting to switching off hardware acceleration, makes it work, but it is noticeably slower like that.

ALSO  the overlays brush in the develop persona is now behaving very strangely and drawing a straight line across the image, from an edge...it's possible to work around using the overlay erase tool, but this is a new issue since 1.10.3

Is that just with Hardware acceleration on or both on and off?

Similar?

It looks like, deactivating the internal graphics card does the trick for me.

  • Intel UHD Graphics 630 (deactivated)
  • NVIDIA Quadro P2200 / driver version 472.39 (activated)
  • OpenCL acceleration (activated)
  • Windows 10 Pro / version 21H1 / build 19043.1320

After a very quick test, I can't see the overlay brush problem on my system.

Regarding my English, please be so kind to keep in mind, that I'm not a nativ speaker...

1.10.4 will be released today that addresses the problem of Screen and UI corruption (in 1.10.3) on some desktops.

On the Affinity Store 1.10.4 builds should be available now and on the Mac App Store and Microsoft Store it will roll out worldwide over the next 24-48 hours, as normal.

Please see this announcement post for the link for your particular application
