Katelyn Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 My iPad auto updated Affinity Designer and now the fonts I have installed are not recognizable. I open any document and my typography designs turn in to some default font that I cant change no matter what I try. I have already tried turning my ipad on and off and updating to the newest ios. I have never had a problem on an affinity update but this is extremely frustrating. Some one please let me know if you also experience this and how it can be fixed. Quote
Alfred Posted August 6, 2021 Posted August 6, 2021 Welcome to the Serif Affinity Forums, @Katelyn. I have no problem with Abhaya Libre SemiBold here, but I notice that in your screenshot the name appears as ‘AbhayaLibre-SemiBold’ (i.e. the first space is missing and the second one has been replaced by a hyphen). Are you opening PDF files? Do you still have the same problem if you reopen a new *.afdesign document using that font? paopaosa Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 (edited) I have the same problem. I can't use custom Chinese fonts after upgraded to 1.10.0 The red circled font can not load correctly. Edited August 7, 2021 by paopaosa Quote
dkistner Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I’m wondering if part of the problem is what my iFont iPad app says under Options/User Installed Fonts and IOS 14. I can’t copy the text from the pop-up window, but I took screenshots of it that I’ll attach. I hope the Affinity team will look into this. I suspect it might be why so many people are having massive font problems right now. Quote

No. Or, at least, I can use iFonts-installed fonts with Designer 1.10 on iPadOS 14.7.1. Walt, how did you get iFont to recognize Affinity Designer? I pull up the Options/Apps To Use Fonts With, it’s not listed there, and I can’t seem to find a way to authorize the Affinity apps to use iFont. Is it because I have my fonts on my iPad and not on iCloud? You have the M-1 iPad Pro 12.9”? Mine is the M-1 iPad Pro 11”, and it’s the first time I’ve used an iPad since I traded in my old Macs. I’ve got to get to the bottom of this. Can’t work. Quote

dkistner Posted August 7, 2021 Posted August 7, 2021 I moved my fonts off of my iPad to iCloud, and Affinity began to see them. I guess that’s what the problem was. I was about to blow a gasket. Thank you, Walt, for your help. walt.farrell 1 Quote
LeslieHedgesDesign Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Hi loves! Having the same issue! It's not effecting the files that are closed, but the ones I open, the text will wonk out. You can see I tried 3 different fonts in the Hike On pictures. The banners are doing the same, they were the first to be open. Non of my fonts are registering and I honestly don't want to delete them and reload every single one. Quote
Wilton33311 Posted August 8, 2021 Posted August 8, 2021 Same issue… When using Design on my IPad my fonts that once worked a few days ago now come up red and won’t load.. see picture iPad ‘model MXAT2LL/A Software 14.7.1 affinity design 1.10.3 Katelyn 1 Quote Quote
Staff Sean P Posted August 9, 2021 Staff Posted August 9, 2021 @Katelyn, @LeslieHedgesDesign, @Wilton33311 How have you installed the fonts onto your iPad? Have you installed them within Affinity > Preferences, or are you using an external application? If you're using an external application what is it? Also when you say you 'Open' is that opening a document from the home screen that was already there, or are you opening by clicking + and then Open From Cloud/Import from Cloud? Before upgrading the Affinity Designer for iPad, every thing goes right. I can use custom fonts which installed by fontright. After 1.10, AD's fonts is failed. And other Apps are ok, for example: Pages/Vectornator.... Attachment is one of unused fonts.. YouSheBiaoTiHei-2.ttf Quote

YouSheBiaoTiHei-2.ttf 1.35 MB · 0 downloads Thanks for that, however we believe your issue is slightly different to the other three posters above and is one that we have reproduced and logged with development. In your case Chinese fonts are failing to appear when the app is set to Chinese (and Japanese fonts when set to Japanese). This is something we do have logged with development. It can currently be worked around by switching the app language to English. However this isn't the case for the other users who are reporting non-Chinese/Japanese fonts not working. This is something I'm currently investigating and trying to reproduce. Quote
LeslieHedgesDesign Posted August 9, 2021 Posted August 9, 2021 @Sean P ... thank you for questions! I upload all my font inside affinity designer. I just click the cloud button and download a file from my font file in cloud. Also about the files.. these are the ones already loaded in the app in my group folders. I just click on one to open and work on and it can’t read the font. The files look fine when you look at them.. but as soon as you open the project... it messes up. :( now all my fonts on the desktop version of affinity is fine.. I can work on them there. I had to work on my laptop this week for certain projects because iPad version is glitching. hope this helps and can be fixed soon. Thank you! Quote
Staff Sean P Posted August 11, 2021 Staff Posted August 11, 2021 Thanks for that Leslie, Can you try the following for me please? Make sure you save one of those files to Dropbox, iCloud or 'On my iPad', verify it has saved and then close it from the home screen in Affinity so it doesn't appear. If you reopen that file do the fonts appear correctly? Quote
LeslieHedgesDesign Posted August 13, 2021 Posted August 13, 2021 Hey @Sean P Sorry for the delay! This is what I know: 1. If I delete a font and then reload.. it works. 2. I did what you said and clicked the project thumbnail {3 lines} then clicked save - to my iCloud affinity folder - then reopened just 1 file and EVERY SINGLE PROJECT FIXED! 😍 I can now access all my fonts and each project that was glitched out, now is back to normal. How amazing, because I was not going to delete all those fonts. lol Hope this helps anyone! Thank you @Sean P !!! I know you guys are working hard and we appreciate you! xo Quote
Peejay67 Posted August 19, 2021 Posted August 19, 2021 Worked for me. I tried it three times to no avail. The last time I shut down the app, and re-started. Then I loaded the file and it was great. Quote
LeslieHedgesDesign Posted August 22, 2021 Posted August 22, 2021 Back again @Sean P It seems it's only a quick fix and will glitch right back. This is so frustrating because I need font + drawing to create my pieces for work and I don't want to have to leave affinity designer because of this. Has there been any new news on this? Any fixes? I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I tried all the steps and it just goes back to doing the same thing. Will there be a new update soon? Thank you so much! xo Quote
RipKnoxx Posted August 23, 2021 Posted August 23, 2021 Same thing happened to me about times. Everyday it seems as if the app resets itself or something. Quote
Mr Mac Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Any update to the issue with previously downloaded fonts not being able to be used on AffinityDesigner (IPAD)? Is there a work around for fonts to be used within the app? Been a few weeks now and stuck trying to complete projects. Quote

LeslieHedgesDesign Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Hey @walt.farrell Thank you for letting us know. I did the update and it looks like the fonts are still red. It sadly did not fix the issue. I use this for my business and I don't know what to do anymore. I can't just save the illustration and then work on the desktop. I need to move fonts around the illustrations to make sure they fit properly. So what happens now? I did the repeat: Save file to "icloud" - close it and then import it back in. Fixes for like a day and then goes back to glitching out. Help Please! xo Quote
MEGraphicDesign Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 I, too, am experiencing this issue (with the same attached image indicated issues above). All of my fonts are stored in a local folder as well as being backed up on a folder inside of my icloud storage, but no matter which location I import them from into Affinity Designer (and Photo for that matter) since the most recent update I get a red highlighted font name and the font appears in a system font. Normal systemwide fonts seem to all work properlly, but personally purchased or created fonts do not. What is worse is that if I reinstall the font, the font will be recognized until I close the document out of the launch windo and reopen or open a separate font with a commonly (recently reconnected) font family. I have tried closing the app(s) and reinstalling all fonts into the program(s), hard resetting my device, uninstalling and reinstalling the program(s), and reinstalling each font individually. So far, I am only able to come to one conclusion and that is that I am spinning my wheels because nothing is conclusively working for me. Help! Quote

The Release Notes only mention: Certain fonts failed to load/be found when language is set to some languages such as Chinese/Japanese respectively. Font Style names do not show when app language is set to some languages such as Chinese or Japanese.
