Copy a mask in affinity photo?

Recommended Posts

I cannot figure out how to copy a mask. In this case a white rectangle with a Gaussian blur. Easy to recreate rectangles, but I want to know how to do this.

I can't even select the pixel layer, much less copy/duplicate it.

I am on Windows 10 latest Designer and Photo (but i'm working in Photo for this).

Thanks!

I don’t think you can copy a mask layer while it’s a mask layer, if that’s what you mean. As far as I’m aware, you need to release the mask, copy the released layer and then return it to the masking position.

Maybe I have misunderstood what is wanted but on my Mac I can right-click on a mask layer in the Layers panel & choose Copy from the popup menu, or do the same from the Edit menu if the mask layer is selected. Both menus also have Paste & it works to paste a copied mask into the same or a different Affinity document.

I'm confused.

What mask?

Perhaps you can provide a sample file and explain more about what you're trying to do? It sounds like you have perhaps used a Gaussian Blur Filter (not a Live Filter, as you ended up with a pixel layer), and I'm not sure there's a mask involved there at all. I also don't know why you wouldn't be able to select the pixel layer, so that's something else puzzling.
