Hi Gumbo23,

Welcome to the Forums :)

With your Text selected you can use the Fill box at the top of the app or the colour picker to change the colour of your text. I have attached a screenshot of this to make it easier to find :)

It does not apply it.

How do I do that?

The only effect from changing the colors in the manner you suggest is that no matter what colour I pick, they all come out a stale brown.

You need to have your text selected with the Move Tool you can switch the Move Tool by using the shortcut V.

You can also take colour anywhere on you document: just use the (Drag it and drop it) eye dropper tool...this can be found in the Colour and Swatches tab.

When you're feeling happy with that: then it's time to do this...Paste Inside.

Hello gumbo23,

Welcome to Affinity Forums :)

To change the text colour with the Text Tools you must highlight the text first. Then click on the Fill or Stroke colours in the context toolbar to change the colour. You can also place the cursor in the middle of a word (not on the beginning or the end) to change the colour of that word.

This doesn't work for me.

When you select the text, click on "Fill," choose a color with the color wheel, the text color does not automatically update in the text frame.

When you select the text layer, same result.

In both cases the text was highlighted.

I also tried another forum suggestion which didn't work either, involving the Effects Panel and changing Cover Overlay. Didn't work either.

How does "Your Media Library" work? "Select a Media Type to Choose What to Share" lists no options.

To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
