JPEG with transparency??

Recommended Posts

I'm really excited .... JPEG Export now seems to work without background as well (Transparency?)  ;-)
Since I was offered to select between "Selection with background" and "Selection without background" I don't think this is purely a spelling mistake ;-) - Regrettfully the exported JPG did not show up with transparency ... but I wasn't to disappointed *G*

"Selection without background" means just what it says; the background around the selection is omitted.

You'll only get transparency if the output format supports transparency, and JPG format doesn't.

I'm aware of this ... but you can't ommit the background in JPG!

Because the JPEG format doesn’t support transparency, the background in the last example is white.

I am puzzled by the fact that JPEG doesn't support transparency. I have a photo from which I somehow removed the background  and pasted into my book cover. Unfortunately, it was only 96 DPI and should be 300 DPI. But now I cannot figure out how I pasted without the background. The book cover has three overlapping, transparent photos. The one I'm concerned about it the middle one. How did I do that?

You might have

  • used a PNG rather than a JPG.
  • placed the image with its background, and used a mask to remove the background.
  • opened the JPG, made a pixel selection of the part you wanted, copied the selection, and pasted that over the other images.
