ELinder
I'm trying to figure out a way to apply a transparency to the edges of cog teeth so they blend together with the background along the long edge of the teeth for each individual tooth. Is there a way to do this? So for the image, I want the brighter teeth to blend into the background so the long edges of each tooth is feathered. cog-tooth-fade-edges.afdesign
Old Bruce
I changed the colour of the background to red but try this... cog-tooth-fade-edges example.afdesign ELinder 1 Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.4 Affinity Designer 2.4.1 | Affinity Photo 2.4.1 | Affinity Publisher 2.4.1 | Beta versions as they appear. ELinder
Yeah, that could work, and it's better than using an inner glow with the background color since the final background won't be a solid color as it is in this example. I'd still like to know if there's a way to put a gradient transparency across each tooth. Erich

Actually you may find the conical version of the Transparency Tool better for what you are doing. It will be some work as you'll have to set up points for each "tooth". Actually a few points for each tooth where you want the fade to begin and end for each side. I did just a couple teeth in the example. cog-tooth-fade-edges example1.afdesign ELinder 1 Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra
GarryP
I’ve attached a short video showing another technique that might be useful. You may need to tweak some things to get exactly what you want but it’s quick and easy to do, and interesting to experiment with. 2020-07-29_08-54-48.mp4 Alfred, firstdefence, Gear maker and 3 others 5

GarryP
Just in case anyone is interested, you can do a similar (possibly nicer) thing in Photo, rather than Designer – which was specified in the original question – by using the Depth Of Field Blur Live Filter, meaning that everything remains easily-editable. See attached video for a quick example. 2020-07-30_12-18-28.mp4 Joachim_L and ELinder 1
ELinder
I quite like that! I was struggling a bit with keeping the definition of the teeth in the middle from spreading out too much. Erich
