I'm still using Serif Photo Plus X6 and Serif Draw Plus X4. I know, very old, so I want to switch to Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer. Now I'm leaning with the Free Trials. I have a question about Designer, that I cannot find in the Help and Tutorial.

I want to make text on a colored background. In Draw I open the Frame Text Tool, type the text and choose color and alignment. Right-clicking in the frame opens a roll-out-menu with Format - Fill. Choosing that, I choose a color and there is my colored background in the frame. What can be easier?

In Designer I cannot found this possibility of coloring the background of the Frame Text Tool. I can find the menu Format - Fill, but that only changes the color of the chacters, not the background.

Can somebody help me?

Welcome to the fourms.
You can’t change the background colour of a Text Frame with Designer or Photo but you can in Publisher.
To give a Text Frame a background colour in Designer, you can put the Text Frame inside a rectangle (or other shape) and give the rectangle a Fill Colour (see attached image).
Other people may also give other methods.

@Rob Hartman, Welcome to the forums. You are not the first (nor will you be the last) to put 'Mr' (or 'Mrs') for a Title. This really should be labelled 'Subject' rather than 'Title'. In your case I would suggest you use 'Coloring the background of the Frame Text Tool'. Using a descriptive title is likely to bring in helpful replies (rather than nit-pickers like me).

If you wish, you can edit your Title. In your original posting, click on the Edit link near the bottom, and you can change it from there.

I agree 100%, yet so many resentments or negative post if someone suggest change to forum.

Personally I would go with GarryP's suggestion. If you just fill the text box the colour is always going to be right at the edge of the text. A colour box behind the text gives you flexibility for design and look.
