jeffthewiz
hello good day is there a way to apply multiple gradient with single layer? in Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo like in photoshop you can add multiple gradient in one layer in different sides of the object and selection. i've been using that method on adobe for a long time creating shadows in different sides of a selection and for objects. its good to have like that on affinity. refer to a video below: though the video is using single layer with mask, the method can also be use without using masks. its good for character/object shadows. cheers,
Gear maker
jeffthewiz, you don't mention which application you are using. In Affinity Designer you can do multiple gradients using the Appearance panel. Just create multiple fills and change the blend mode of the upper fills. In Affinity Photo and Publisher I don't believe there is a way to do this. jeffthewiz 1 Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra

jeffthewiz
@Gear maker In the Appearance section it displays strokes and fills, which it is more like a History. i have to duplicate each stroke to create new gradient. is there a way to apply multiple gradient by just stroking your mouse/pen? No, it's not a History. It is showing you the strokes and fills that actually exist for the selected object. You don't need to do anything with strokes f you want a second gradient fill; just click the "Add Fill" button at the bottom of the panel, and make it a gradient fill. jeffthewiz 1 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro, version 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. iPad: iPad Pro M1, 12.9": iPadOS 17.4.1, Apple Pencil 2, Magic Keyboard Mac: 2023 M2 MacBook Air 15", 16GB memory, macOS Sonoma 14.4.
Gear maker
With the appearance panel when first opened on one layer it will show one stroke and one fill. Select the fill and create your first gradient. To create a second fill click on the Add fill at the bottom, then there will be one stroke and 2 fills. Select the new (upper) fill and create a new gradient using a blend mode that will combine the two gradients as desired, maybe overlay might be a good place to start. You can add a third fill with another gradient as desired. Walt just beat me to this answer. jeffthewiz 1 Quote iMac (27-inch, Late 2009) with macOS Sierra

R C-R
I confess that I have an addiction a tendency to overuse the capabilities of the Appearance panel, ending up with things like this Appearance overkill.afdesign file. 🤪 Quote All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.4.1 Mac apps; 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 Affinity Photo 1.10.8; Affinity Designer 1.108; & all 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.

I would expect to be able to edit a mask layer by editing its fill ... I can draw 1 gradient ... but I just noticed I neither need nor am able to add a fill to a mask layer without removing the previously drawn gradient: its fill in the Appearance Panel is empty, although I do see my drawn gradient in the layers thumbnail + its masking affect in the main window. – What do I misunderstand here?
