Question about creating a new artboard. If I create a new A4 document using the print template and I late decide I want a new artboard, lets say an A4. But the only sizes available in the dropdown menu are devices? Wouldn't it makes sense I would could choose from template group used when creating the document... Print, Print Ready, Photo, Web, Devices...?

A user experience designer would answer "Yes, indeed."

  • "The user interface is supposed to work for me - I am not supposed to work for the user interface."
  • Computer-, operating system- and software agnostic; I am a result oriented professional. Look for a fanboy somewhere else.

  • Not an Affinity user og forum user anymore. The software continued to disappoint and not deliver.

This is one of the many things unfinished by Serif.
New features are being invented (cool), but at the same time other matters have not been completed even from version 1.5 for 5 years.

As Catshill has mentioned, Artboards were originally designed for UI creation & mockups, which is why the default sizes are all 'Devices'.

If you're looking to create artboards at the same size as your original document, you can use the 'Document' option in the dropdown list. From your example above, this would create as many A4 artboards as you wish.

I'll move this thread to our Feedback section for the devs to see and consider changing this list in the future :)

I can't really go back and open an older version of Designer and check, so I might be wrong. But as far as I remember, you have always had the option to "create artboard" when selecting A4 or A3 in the setting up a new document window...

That's correct, and this functionality is still available in the New Document dialog for any document 'types'.

Although we originally create tools with a certain use in mind, we don't wish to limit users to one workflow, so we offer this option when creating a document - I suspect we decided to only include Devices in the dropdown when using the tool as to not overcomplicate the UI, however I can certainly see the usefulness of your request :)
