Beta 1.8.0.555 crashes when trying to start it

I've installed 1.8.0.555 because it allows me to choose a lens profile that is not in the Exif data.

However, when I start it, the opening windows comes up (with the logo), followed by the main window without any attributes, and then after a few seconds it disappears.

I have found the crash reports directory, so I've zipped it and added it.

I rebooted my PC (cntrl-alt-del is still the best way to resolve Microsoft problems 😁 ) and tried again. This time the main window came up and froze. When I tried to set the window to full screen mode, I saw "exploit mitigation" in the lower right corner. That's all I was able to achieve, I had to use the task manager to kill the process.

Sounds like anti-virus or something might be getting in the way? What is showing "exploit mitigation"?

Affinity Photo Beta is showing "exploit mitigation" in white characters on blue in the lower right hand corner.

Yes, what I mean is, which application is writing "exploit mitigation"?

Affinity Photo , it is in the lower right corner of the main window of Affinity Photo.

sometimes the window does enlarge to the full screen, but here you can see what I mean.

Hey grunnvms,

That is not a message from Affinity but rather, as Mark suggested, a message from some sort of anti-virus/malware application. If you click the notification, are you able to interact with it and set Affinity as an exception?

The window that I posted is a full screen size Affinity Photo window. If it is not full screen size, I will see the same message at the same spot in the Affinity Photo window! Are you suggesting that an anti-virus program can post a message as part of a Affinity Photo window?.

By the way, I'm using Sophos ant-virus software. I'm obviously also using the regular Affinity Photo, so there must a rather fundamental difference between both version for something like this to happen, at least that is my idea.

I Have no problems with the beta and ms defender and anti malware.

Try adding Affinity Photo Beta as an exception in your Sophos anti-virus list and see if it still crashes it.

I just disabled the Exploit Mitigation protection in Sophos, and Affinity Photo Beta still crashes.

I also disabled "advanced protection" for Affinity Photo Beta in Sophos, it still crashes.

Yes, that would be quite easy. That message is certainly not from us.

I switched everything off in my virus scanner, and it still crashes. I also reinstalled Photo Beta with a clean boot. I had to use the same procedure with Affinity Designer that I recently purchased. It would not install in my normal Windows setup, only with a clean boot. But nothing helps, Photo Beta keeps crashing. Is there any information that I can send that will help to determine the cause of the crashes?

The 1.8 updates have been pushed live so can you see if updating your 1.7 version works?
