  1. We are pleased to announce an update for the Windows release of Affinity Photo 2, version 2.0.4 This build is available as a (sandboxed) MSIX application installer and as an (unsandboxed) MSI/EXE traditional installer. Please see this FAQ thread for instructions on how to access the unsandboxed MSI/EXE version. The changes in Affinity Photo 2 for Windows 2.0.4 (those made since the last release Affinity Photo 2 for Windows 2.0.3) are as follows: Fixes & Improvements: (since the last release 2.0.3) Develop Persona: Enabling White Balance on non RAW files crashes Affinity Photo or was not functioning correctly. [AFP-5803] Fixed tint value in CR3 files[AFP-4617] Improved timezone handling in Metadata panel StudioLink incompatible with licensing used for businesses. Fixed non-ASCII characters not being accepted in license usernames Fix New Document sometimes showing Letter* instead of A4 Cannot set stroke width if units not set to points. [AFD-6276] Saving files may reduce file size in some circumstances (example was a 2gb file with no embedded data) Some image resources are being replaced by others from the same document when copy/paste was used to insert them. [AFB-7053] Assorted stability fixes Help and Localisation updates. Assorted other Licensing and Registration improvements To get notified when any new releases are made please follow the latest releases thread by clicking here UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (which is free for all V2 users) The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in Help > About Affinity Photo). If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store — each time you start the Affinity Store software it will check for updates and offer any available update. The latest update will install over the top of any earlier version, with no need to uninstall. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "Download" button in there. Alternatively, this new release (and previous versions of Affinity Photo for Windows) can be downloaded from this link. (that installer is NOT for Windows Store purchases and needs a product key). If you’ve purchased from the Microsoft Store — Microsoft Store updates are done automatically by the operating system (each time you start the application). If this does not happen for you, open the Windows Store app and click the three dots in the top right corner of the app and then go to Downloads and Updates. Click Get Updates. This should hopefully force the update to show.
  2. Affinity suite needs to support the OS proxy settings better, especially when they require NTLM, Kerberos, Windows SSPI or SSO authentication credentials In my corporate job with a network proxy we can't bypass, it just fails to accept my Serif login or download any resources. I can tether to my phone to make it work, but I really shouldn't have to. I'd normally tell an app behaving like this to use the proxy, giving it a setting like username:password@x.x.x.x:8080 or tell it to use my installation of px-proxy (which works with apps that can take a proxy but can't use NTLM credentials) but Affinity Suite doesn't have such an option anywhere. Nor should it - it should be using the right OS APIs that use the configured proxy and authentication for network requests. I'm on Windows 10.
  3. This was discussed in another related thread and tested by a number of users using the “unzip to desktop” unofficial install method for the MSIX package in order to negate sandbox. It was learned that there is a significant performance increase when using the same package un-sandboxed versus sandboxed. (i.e. sandboxed == slower) It seems to impact higher end hardware more, but it isn’t clear for sure without more machines being tested. I tested an AMD card in the other thread and it showed a hit, but that card is not that powerful compared to the others. (Feel free to add your own tests below with higher end AMD cards) These tests are using the official 2.0.4.1701 MSIX installation vs MSI installations. 230127_2.0.4.1701_Sanded-vs-Unsanded-Benchmarks_ALL-MACHINES.zip I tested with 3 machines using 3x benchmarks for averaging each installation method: Machine 1 (Main): Microsoft Windows 10 Home (Build 19045) AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8Ghz (-30 all core +200mhz PBO); Mobo: Asus X470 Prime Pro 32GB DDR4 (3600Mhz) EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 3080 X3C Ultra 12GB Monitor 1&2 4K @ 150% Perf Variance: 16 ~ 20% Sanded: Unsanded: Machine 2 (Hub’s): Microsoft Windows 10 Home (Build 19044) AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6 core @ 3.7Ghz Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming 16GB DDR4 (3200Mhz) Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB Rev 2.0 Monitor 1 1440p @ 225% Perf Variance: 15 ~ 21% Sanded: Unsanded: Machine 3 (Living Room): Microsoft Windows 10 Home (Build 19045) AMD Ryzen 7 3600 6-core @ 3.8Ghz (-30 all core +200mhz PBO) ASRock A520M-HDV 32GB DDR4 (3000Mhz) Asus TUF GTX 1660 TI Monitor 1 4K @ 225% Perf Variance: 12 ~ 14% Sanded: Unsanded:
  4. Hi, I recently attempted to install Affinity Photo 2.0.3, but was unsuccessful. I tried changing the file extension to .msi, but received an error stating that it is an unknown software. As I prefer to only install software that has been certified by Microsoft, I am hesitant to continue with the installation. Will this issue be resolved in the near future? If so, I would be interested in purchasing Affinity Photo if it is compatible with Cartoon Animator 5. However, if I am unable to install the software within the next 24 hours, I will have to consider other options. Thank you for your assistance. Best regards, Greg T. SOLUTION: Change the non-existing extension (which the software developer forgot to add) to .msix and it makes the file able to install. So change affinity-photo-2.0.3 to affinity-photo-2.0.3.msix

  8. Hi All, With Windows 11 being officially released on 05OCT, is Affinity Designer compatible with it? Thanks
  9. The Affinity OpenCL Disabler is a little Windows based support tool, which will search and check for the availability of the PerformancePreferences.xml files (and inside those especially the existance and value setting of the <UseHardwareAcceleration> field) in Affinity for Windows release product installments. It's main purpose is to automatically disable the OpenCL hardware acceleration settings for the GPU in PerformancePreferences.xml files, which when as default enabled can lead on some Windows systems to crashes of Affinity application due to possible GPU driver incompatibilities. So if these settings are as default enabled, this tool will disable these settings for Affinity release programs. The tools main window looks like this ... ... and when started does a first automatic search after PerformancePreferences.xml files and their contents. It's console output box lists (outputs) what it processes and found out so far. The console also prints some hints for the next steps to take (pressing related image buttons) in order to disable related found OpenCL settings. Further during processing the top big image buttons change to indicate the found out states, their tooltips do change too dynamically and give here further related hints. - The tools top three big affinity image buttons do always show the found out state of the as installed found Affinity apps (Photo, Designer and Publisher). The tool actually searches only for Affinity Store, MS Store and Test releases of Affinity app versions, Affinity Beta versions are here excluded from the automatic search facility and thus not yet taken into account. No applications or PerformancePreferences.xml settings file found ... ... these image buttons are shown if no application related settings file are found, meaning there are probably no related Affinity apps installed on the Windows system. PerformancePreferences.xml settings file found but it has no <UseHardwareAcceleration> field entry ... ... clicking on one of the above shown "OpenCL No entry" image buttons will create a corresponding entry into the related PerformancePreferences.xml file, but will flag it to OpenCL disabled (False) and thus disable hardware acceleration. Hardware acceleration OpenCL related setting as enabled found ... ... clicking on one of the above shown "OpenCL enabled" image buttons will edit/change the corresponding PerformancePreferences.xml file entry to OpenCL disabled (False) and thus disable hardware acceleration. The state this program always aims to reach is to disable all the OpenCL hardware acceleration settings and thus it should finally ideally show these image buttons here ... ... if the obove shown images are shown, OpenCL is disabled for the Affinity Windows apps, which might hopefully help to prevent possible default app crashes then. [x] Create any missing performance XML files When this checkbox is enabled during clicking on any of the above shown image buttons then a possibly missing performance XML files can be initially auto-generated. The Affinity OpenCL Disabler then looks during it's scan after any related Affinity product if it's settings directory is available (does exist), if the directory exists but there is no PerformancePreferences.xml settings file found inside, then an initial PerformancePreferences.xml will be generated and created in the corresponding settings directory! - Such a scan and XML file creation is only performed when this checkbox is enabled and one of the above Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer or Affinity Publisher icon buttons are pressed! NOTE: The tool comes along with some HTML based help contents (see the file in: ..\help\help_en.html) which you should read. From inside the running tool the help is accessable via the little [?] show help button. The HTML based help can be alternatively opened (the file help_en.html) from inside the supplied help directory with your local webbrowser. Installation: In order to use Affinity OpenCL Disabler you must have an actual installed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 (or a newer version) on your computer. To install Affinity OpenCL Disabler, just copy the contents of it's ZIP file into a directory of your choice. Where the AffinityOclChecker.exe file is the main Affinity OpenCL Disabler file, which must be executed in order to run the tool. In the following table, <somedir> refers to an installation directory of your choice. File to copy Target directory Contents of AffinityOclChecker.zip <somedir>/AffinityOclChecker/ To start the Affinity OpenCL Disabler you can just do a double click on it's EXE file, afterwards the Affinity OpenCL Disabler tool should appear and is ready to use. Here is the little AffinityOclChecker Windows based program, it's zipped (archived) thus remember that you have first to extract (unzip) it in order to use it: AffinityOclChecker.zip(v1.0a) AffinityOclChecker_v1.2.zip (v1.2) AffinityOclChecker_v1.3.zip(v1.3) I hope that it might be useful for the one or other Affinity forum user, regards v_kyr!
  10. While working with the curves panel I highlighted the Opacity dialog box, does not matter what the % is, I dragged the box over to the image and let go and it created a new blank layer that says it is Frame Text and lists the % of opacity that was present in the Opacity dialog box. Is this a BUG? If not what is the purpose of creating a text frame layer from this dialog box? thx, - T V (seems to happen from any highlighted input dialog box with the Move Tool (V))

  12. Do you have an SDK or something like OLE for Windows that I can automate processes? I'm a Python and Node JS programmer. An example would be to create a project in Publisher, and change only text and figures, through an external command of some language. That way you could automate processes. An example of this is MS Word, which has OLE WordApplication, where I can send commands, such as creating documents, exporting formats, among others without interacting with MS Word

  16. If a new update is available, after executing the "Check for Updates" command, a dialog will appear in which a question about performing the update is displayed. After a positive answer to this question (clicking the Install button) the update process continues, but the mentioned question, which is completely irrelevant and meaningless during the update process, is displayed further. Therefore, I think it would be appropriate and reasonable to modify the dialogue text during the update. The update process and its progress are indicated to the user both by means of a concise and much more user-friendly Progresbar, which also informs the user about how long the installation will take, but also by a silent indicator of the download process. I think it would be much more user-friendly if the entire update process was displayed with a single progressbar, with 0% position reserved for the download calculation, 1-49% position reserved for data download process, and 50-99% for the installation process. Thank you

  20. We are pleased to announce version 1.10.6 updates for the Affinity Suite on all platforms. Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo and Affinity Publisher (on macOS, Windows, and iOS) had all recently been affected by recent operating system releases such as the launch of macOS Ventura, iOS 16 and Windows 10 and 11 updates. We have mitigated some of these in the 1.10.6 patches of all applications on all platforms. The changes fix/avoid the problems introduced by operating system changes thus returning earlier functionality. If you are using Windows 10 or 11, macOS Ventura (13.x) or iOS 16 then we recommend installing these updates. Other supported operating systems can install the update without issue, but they have no specific advantages/fixes over 1.10.5 for your OS. UPDATING TO THIS VERSION (for existing V1 customers) Updates on macOS for Affinity Store Purchases The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu, for example Affinity Photo > About...). If you’ve purchased from the Affinity Store— each time you start the software it will check for updates and offer to download and install any available update, or in the application main menu there is an option Check for Updates. You can download the latest installer by logging into the affinity store here and find the order in your account and use the "download" button in there. Alternatively the full Affinity Store installers are also available here: Affinity Photo on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Photo for macOS can be downloaded from this link Affinity Designer on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Designer for macOS can be downloaded from this link Affinity Publisher on macOS: All Affinity Store builds of Affinity Publisher for macOS can be downloaded from this link ========================================================================= Updates on macOS through the Mac App Store The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (in application menu for example, Affinity Photo > About...). If this does not happen for you, open the Mac App Store app and go to the Updates page and then Store > Reload page or press CMD+R. This should hopefully force the update to show. Apple sometimes phase roll outs around the world which can mean it may take up to 72 hours for your update to be available. ========================================================================= Updates on Windows for Affinity Store Purchases The software version can be seen on the splash screen and the About dialog (for example in Help > About...). 22. Hi All, Here is a share of my Live Luminosity Range Mask Saved Presets. In addition to the original Highlights, Midtones, Darks ( 3 ) saved presets, I have included 19 more. This may seem too technical for many, but, I will try my best to break it down how to use these. The file that Affinity Photo 2 uses to save these is called livemask_presets.propcol . It is located in user/(folder)/.affinity/Common/2.0/user . If you delete the livemask_presets.propcol file, affinity photo will replace with the original ( 3 ) livemask_presets.propcol file upon restarting the app., so, it should be fairly easy to work with. If you have created any custom files and cannot delete and want to, follow the previous steps. Otherwise, back up your file and save it to another location. Please feel free to comment... UPDATED... For the all of the users who already downloaded, Please download the new file V3 Hue. V2 has been removed for your safety. ( UPDATED ) to full set Luminosity/Hue/Band-pass. See next page... for more info on how to delete see... 23. Hi all, I'm fairly new with Affinity (loving it so far), but I can't find a way to see the values of an 32-bit image in the Color Sampler Info panel. No matter what mode I use it seems to always clip to 255 which is not the case of my image. Cheers, Juan

  25. The error "The data area passed to a system call is too small" can appear when trying to run Affinity V2 on Windows. This issue is related to how Affinity V2 installs into the WindowsApps folder and Microsoft SQL Server. The below KB update from Microsoft should resolve the issue: https://support.microsoft.com/topic/kb4073393-fix-the-data-area-passed-to-a-system-call-is-too-small-error-when-you-start-a-desktop-bridge-application-on-a-sql-server-5ae0994d-023a-d32b-3aad-526500b53993
