  3. Hello, Its been a while since I've posted here but the times I have, the community has been of much help. I'm having an issue on trying to create a nice globe/sphere vector in designer and not really sure if its possible without having to draw each line one by one and as symmetrically as possible. I'm trying to make a sphere vector/wireframe like the example shown on this post where you only see the vector lines on the visible face (not to where you can see the back side as if its see through). If anyone know, this would be of great help and appreciation. EDIT: thank you all for the help, using inkscape was perfect for creating a sphere wireframe and configuring how I want it. thank you all for the information and tips!

  6. North Staffordshire Rly 0-4-4T No. 11, built 1907 at Stoke. Inspired by learning that 0-6-2T No.2 has been acquired by Foxfield Railway, just up the road; looking up details, I found this photo of a different loco and decided to have a go. (This engine no longer exists.) For anyone not au fait with UK steam railway classification, 0-4-4 refers to the wheel configuration: no leading wheels, four driving wheel, four trailing wheels; T stands for tank, the rectangular shape alongside the boiler holding water.
  7. Hi guys! Learn how to create impressive symmetrical designs with the Symbol Tool in Affinity Designer by following our tutorial in the link, which teaches you how to use it in just a few simple steps.😆 See you there, enjoy!

  11. I've been photographing wheels on traction engines, vintage trucks, and railway engines for more years than I can remember. I find it's very useful practice, not to mention good fun, to recreate them in Affinity Designer. I'm sure I posted City of Truro recently, but I can't find it here (I know I posted it on some of the Affinity FaceBook pages). Anyway, this is mainly made in vectors with a limited palette of flat colours and limited use of gradients.. The rivets are symbols, which is a handy way of making lots of identical things that might require later editing, and the lettering is text-on-a-path, with a lot of fiddling with tracking and baselines, and pure luck in finding close matches for fonts. These two wheels are from a showman's engine -- a steam traction engine highly decorated and adapted to provide electric power for a fairground ride. I think this particular one is The Iron Maiden, but I can't lay my hands on the original photos to be sure. (She was originally named Kitchener, but was renamed when she starred in the movie of the same name.) In the first one, the right-hand front wheel, I used gradients for shading and highlights, but in the second, the right-hand driving wheel, I used flat black or white shapes at 50% opacity clipped to the relevant areas. The egg-shaped structure behind the wheel is the cover for the drive train and differential gears. I used multiple outlines for the coloured lining. The rivets -- symbols again (although they needn't have been in this instance) -- are flat colour, and the highlights are separate symbols. each set of four is a Group, with the centre moved to the wheel's centre; this allowed me to use Power Duplicate to space them around the rim at precise intervals. (I did the same with the spokes.)

  13. Hey all, I'm new to Affinity Designer and am having a hard time using a boolean operation to get the result I'm looking for. Basically, I want to use the rectangle to show only what is inside the rectangle and cut out everything on the outside. The closest I've gotten to a solution is creating a mask, which does what I want visually, but instead of deleting everything outside of the rectangle, it just "hides" it. I assume using "intersect" is my best bet but it will not allow me to use that operation. Any help is much appreciated!
  14. New artwork: Fashion Forward Fanny As part of #lgbthistory month, I’ve created a new artwork inspired by the legendary Leigh Bowery. For those that don’t know, Leigh was an Australian performance artist and fashion/costume designer, whose dazzling, outrageous, and often disturbing looks were a permanent fixture on the club scene of early 1980’s London and New York. His work has inspired a vast range of artists and designers ever since, including (but certainly not limited to) Lady Gaga, Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, and Boy George. He was also a muse for Lucien Freud, who created a famous series of full-length paintings of him, and in 2002 his life was celebrated in the West End and Broadway musical Taboo, in which he was played by his friend Boy George, who was also the creative force behind the show. Sadly, Leigh Bowery passed away in 1994, but his legacy is felt as strongly as ever, and is regularly referenced today in both fashion and drag culture at large. I’ve included a few photos of Leigh’s most iconic looks which directly inspired this piece (and you’ll also see I couldn’t resist including a picture of Leigh himself within the piece, watching Fanny do her chores…) Oh, and this is also the second in my “Domestic Goddess” series (drag queens doing the housework in ludicrously inappropriate apparel). Hope you like it (and please do check out more about Leigh Bowery!)

  17. The following issue, I'm not sure if it's MY mistake or a bug in Affinity Publisher: I have a logo consisting of an SVG vector file. I modified it as a vector in Affinity Designer. Now I embed this file in an Affinity Publisher document. (For testing purposes, I also created a link instead of embedding it) - when I look at the document in Publisher, I don't see any staircases or artifacts. In addition, I put a font under the logo. If I now export the whole thing with the PRINT-READY Pdf Preset, I get a PDF in which the font under the logo is razor sharp, but the logo itself looks very pixelated - like a bitmap! A mistake in the publisher? Or user error? Here are the files so you can take a look, along with the resulting PDFs.test_vector_pixel_verknuepft.afpub test_vector_pixel.afpub test_vector_pixel_verknuepft.pdf test_vector_pixel.pdf test_vector_pixel_verknuepft.afpub TEST_LOGO_black.afdesign
  18. New artwork - “Put the Knife Down Sandra.” Part-inspired by Mia Goth in the closing shot of the horror film “ Pearl”, and part-inspired by the slightly crazed smiles of Nigella Lawson (I love Nigella, but, you know…) comes the lovely Sandra, with her slightly demented 80’s appearance. Hope you like her! (Made on Affinity Designer iPad v2)
  19. While you can trim curves with the shapebuilder tool, I would like to have dedicated tools to trim and extend curves. For extending, it would be as simple as clicking a curve and it will extend the closest end of the curve to the next visible curve. This tool should extend curves even though the target curve will not intersect with the curve that is to be extended (meaning, if you were to extend both, they would intersect). Trimming should work in similar fashion, it adds a node along an intersection with another curve and removes the portion closes to where one clicked.
  20. Here are a few Paper Effects as vector assets (...since some new forum user recently asked me for such things). The assets file: paper-effects.afassets A paper effects samples file: paper-effect-samples.afdesign And two curled paper sample files: curled_paper_template.afdesign curled_paper_sample.afdesign As mostly all freely reusable, have a nice time!
  21. I never noticed this before and I wonder if this is a design decision ... Is there any good reason why the Stock panel browsing pixabay in Affinity Photo has no vector checkbox? Edit in AP from within AD is an additional step, so ...
