  1. Hi, First let me say both products, Designer and Photo are amazing programs, they are truly game changers. Now I'm writing because I would like to know which is the best approach for individual color manipulation on the Dev Persona, like the HLS on the Photo persona where you can at the same time change HLS for any color range. Also besides the Overlay Brush and the Overlay Gradient, is there something like a Overlay Sampled Color Range where you can would be able to modify only the pixels that are on that color range? Thanks!
  2. I think that 25+ years of experience with DTP apps like PageMaker, FrameMaker, QuarkXPress, InDesign and DOA (Design Oriented Apps) like FreeHand, CorelDRAW, Illustrator, Xara, Photoshop, give me room to say my opinion about Publisher, Designer and Photo. And this is: Publisher should be free of DOA features. All these years I never ever used these kind of features in DTP apps. I always like everthing clean: DTP for finalizing/merging text with design and DOA for design. If you develop separate DOA you don’t need it’s tools in DTP app and vice versa. Quark needs it, but Publisher does not. Publisher file format should not be open in Designer or Photo. Could you open ID files in AI or PS? No? Why? Because it is not supposed to work that way. But opposite is quite OK. It must, which is normal. DTP features must be removed from DOA. Artboards are OK. But pages, text chain, character and paragraph styles... No. Local character and paragraph formating and text effects (warp text effects like in Photoshop?!) is OK. Text effects in PS instead in AI? Video editing in PS? Character and paragraph formating in AI and PS? Adobe totally lost it’s compass. Publisher and Designer. Only 2 apps instead of 3. Designer and Photo must be merged into one app because they share the same purpose, a lot of code and recently -- same bug fixes. It will be also a war against bloatware. As separate apps their instalation size is 500+ Mb and if they are merged I suppose it will be cca 300 Mb or less. Not to mention how much space they take on HD when installed. If you need ideas for another apps then you can make your own Math equation and Chemistry formulae editor(s) and a Music score app.
  3. Ok...I'm feeling pretty stupid right now. I went to do some pixel art in Photo and can't find the Pencil tool. Any idea where it is? Does it exist? The pencil that I thought it was is the eraser...not quite what I was looking for.
  4. Hi, it's fantastic what you've done with the font list, but it can be pollished even more. For an example, when selecting text the cursor moves to the appropriate font (font name on the blue background) in the font list (blue arrow) which is OK, but when you start to scroll up or down to search for a new font, the name of starting font is frozen in the font list and font combo box, instead to be changed with the new font name (red arrow).
  5. I need to take two files and move them into one. What I have is a bmp file and then a second bmp with the alpha information. How do I combine these two together to give the first image transparency? I used to know how to do this in photoshop but I can't figure it out within Affinity.
  6. When exporting a document as JPEG, on the "More..." settings, I can choose to have a 'progressive' JPEG. How many scans does it encode in the final file? Photoshop lets me choose 3-5 but AF seems to just have either progressive or not.
  7. Hi ! Is it possible to kern whole row or chapter, instead of one character? kr Nikolai Ylirotu Finland
  8. Hey, me again I got just an quick idea. I am sometimes pretty unconcentrated or so deep in my work that I forget what I want to do with my image. So it would help me really if I can add some messages to the image. Like this, but with a extra menue just for the "memos". So i can hide them quick and delete them at the end easy.
  9. Hi. Could someone point me to a resource which will show me how to make a background gradually out of focus. I have searched and found a video on circular bokeh but that's not what I am trying to do. Any help much appreciated.
  10. I have a batch of old family photos which I have edited to the best of my ability and now want to print them out. What is the best format to export them to for the best quality.I am using Windows Photo.
  11. Is there support in Designer and/or Photo for a new font specification called OpenSVG? I ask specifically because I came across an absolutely gorgeous font called Pure Heart: http://weandthecolor.com/pure-heart-hyper-realistic-brush-font/91373 https://creativemarket.com/helloimgreg/1879750-Pure-Heart-Intro-Offer-35-off?u=watc and I would love to be able to use it in some of my projects. It does say this font is alternatively available in TTF/OTF format, but it would be so cool to be able to use the full features offered in the OpenSVG format.
  12. I know that the Affinity family supports OTF and TTF font specifications, but apparently there is a relatively new font specification called OpenSVG. I didn't find a whole lot out there on this, except for these links; https://dev.w3.org/SVG/modules/fonts/SVG-OpenType.html https://www.w3.org/2013/10/SVG_in_OpenType/ I have no idea where this is in regard to standardization or implementation, but some font artisans are already starting to develop some really gorgeous font sets using this format, like the Pure Heart font, which I shared on the forum here: Is it possible or feasible to implement native support for OpenSVG fonts in Designer and Photo?
  13. Hi. Recently I wanted to make an Affinity Designer importer for Unity3D, but I didn't find any documentation about what are the Affinity files and there is no documentation about it. It would be awesome to have some information about them, then we will be able to add some more plugins and importers and extend affinity designer. For example, we need documentation for .afphoto and .afdesign files. Thanks.
  14. Only in Photo, when there is no color assigned to stroke and fill, you can't distinguish which symbol is for stroke and which is for fill.
  15. Hi, I am new in Affinity Photo: still in my trial period. But I like what I see. I develop my (Olympus Pen E-P5) raw files in DxO. I like DxO's colours and noise reduction. I am just scratching AP's surface. At this moment I am cropping my photo's to 10 by 15 cm; 300 DPI. May I be so bold to ask for some improvements? Crop I crop to 15 * 10 cm; mostly landscape. So Crop settings: 'Custom Ratio' 15 x 10 'Thirds Grid'. I made a Preset of that: (Automatic) name: 15 : 10 Improvement: Have AP remember the last used Crop Preset (e.g.: 15 : 10) Improvement: Also have the arrow keys move the crop area Improvement: Automatically Rotate the crop area for portrait (e.g.: 10 x 15) File > Export AP remembers the last exported document type (e.g. JPG or PNG) Improvement: Have AP remember the last used Print Size (e.g.: 15 x 10 cm in px) Improvement: Have AP remember the source directory (of File Open) and the target directory (of Export) General Improvement: Make a shortcut for opening the next (source) photo (Tab ?) Make a shortcut for opening the previous (source) photo (Backspace ?) Improvement: After importing a number of photos: present them sorted (oldest left). Ahhh... that would have saved me a lot of time! Great programme, though! Regards, peter
  16. Hi, it is not possible to set Keyboard Shortcuts fot some Tabs in Studio.... eg. Swatches, Color.... Thanks Jindra
  17. Hi all. Perhaps my question is due to a lack of knowledge, but I'm in trouble in identifying where is the solution to my question. Working on a very simple project. The attached 'FileA' is the APhoto 'source' and FileB is the exported pdf one. The matter is related with the typography need to have the red ellipses entirely printed into the pdf file. As you can see from FileA, those red ellipses exceed margins file and typographer does need to have the entire ellipses bodies printed out into the pdf file, even overflowing margin. This because of any possible 'cutting' problems. Can anyone help me here please ? Thanks in advance, Luca FileA.afphoto FileB.pdf
  18. Hi, is it possible to make "Crop" tool in Photo to work as in Designer? Not on whole page/Artboard, but on object only?
  19. All my other photo software uses TIF as the file extension for Tagged Image File Format image files. I am curious why TIFF was used by Affinity. It makes my file lists look ragged and will probably interfere with sorting lists.
  20. All my other photo software uses TIF as the file extension for Tagged Image File Format image files. I am curious why TIFF was used by Affinity. It makes my file lists look ragged and will probably interfere with sorting lists. Can we have the option to export as TIF not TIFF please?
  21. Greetings, I had a newbie question about using levels. Why does lowering the white level make image brighter instead of darker? Is it like compressing the tonal range, boosting output close to the threshold? Thanks for any advice.
  22. Please enhance the UI. Poor usability working with windowed images. Many professional users have large hi-res monitors and feel constrained to viewing just one image at a time in a tab. Working with images in free floating windows is much more productive for many people, but Affinity Photo's handling of windowed images is woeful. Sorry, but here's why. Opening or creating a new image put it in a tab - always. There is no option to permanently default to windowed documents Windows are always huge, even if the image is 200x200 pixels the window is as big as my 4K monitor! There are no options or shortcuts to automatically resize the window to fit the image. (There's an option in Photoshop to always resize the window to the image when double clicking on the magnify icon - very handy) The corners of Photo's windows are very difficult to grab in order to manually resize them. New or opened images are zoomed in to fill the screen. Why? The default should be 100%.Dragging a tab to become a window retains this unrequested and unnecessary level of zoom. Small scroll bars in each window that lets you scroll so far that it pushes the image out of view. I don't understand the purpose of that. The scroll bars never fill with width of the window. In all other apps, at 100% zoom the bars are 100% of the width/height of the window. Photo defies this age old logic. See attached screenshot. Alt+Tab is supposed to jump to the next application or display thumbs of all apps running. But when working with windowed images, Alt+Tab jump to the next image (very frustrating if you just want to jump between apps) and displays thumbs of all of the images currently opened. Photo needs an option to tell Windows 10 to treat all windows as part of the same application so there's only 1 Photo window ever shown when Alt+Tab or Windows+Tab is used. A status bar for each window to show the image's size in pixels (or other preferred unit) would be very handy. Minimising Photo and then maximising it causes all windows to be redrawn (slowly) and placed into a different depth order. The image I was last working on is no longer at the top of the windows. All of the above is hampering my productivity. After using Photoshop for 20 years I'm stuck in my ways, but a tabbed view is crazy if you need to work with many images at once and have sight of them constantly. It's not to everyone's taste, sure, but at least give users a choice and have the windowed choice working nicely without the usability issues I've described above. Thank you.
  23. Coming from another RAW developer programme I have been used to being able to hover the pointer over a slider and using the mouse wheel to adjust that slider. I find it gives more precise control. That doesn't happen in Affinity Photo by default. Can it be made to do so?
