  1. I've just tried to fill an object using the context toolbar and Colour tab, but the object is not updating. 1) Draw object using the pen tool 2) Select Fill in context toolbar or Colour tab 3) Choose colour Expected: Colour to update Actual: Colour not updated
  2. Hi I've been testing Affinity Photo (AP), and about to test Affinity Designer. This is a general question, part of which is an analysis I'm doing, after answering someones technical question on LinkedIn. The author of the post was confused with getting varying numeric values from CMYK to RGB and HEX I used AP to try out the colour sliders and chooser interface. Can anyone answer why values differ from a given CMYK value? Example: CMYK 65 0 100 0 AP Sliders = LAB 89 -70 82 / RGB 89 255 0 / HSL 99 100 50 / WEB RGB 59FF00 AP Chooser = LAB NIL / RGB 128 177 62 / HSL 86 48 47 / # HEX (CSS) 80B13E If anyone is interested, I have created a spreadsheet of my other findings. Ideas, thoughts? Dee
  3. It would be great to have a color wheel similar to this: I'd even be happy if we could have TWO color pallets viewable in the workspace, One being sliders and the other being a wheel. I would LOVE an option similar to something like this: These would give a great amount of control with color that would make color selection with painting a lot smoother. Changes: 1. Red being at the top (0 degrees) 2. Color schemes: Complimentary, Triadic, split complimentary, etc. 3. Tint - 100% tint is always represented as the color, where in painting if you've tinted your colors you're ADDING white, so the slider is reversed from the default. 4. Blending - foreground and background colors go on either end of the slider. 5. Color temperature (lock) & Tone (lock)- these are lifted from Anastasy's Magic Picker, they're really powerful features I hope this was somewhat intelligible and that others might find these requests useful for their process. Thank you very much for taking our requests seriously and listening to the community, you guys and gals rock!
  4. Hi Working with the sampling tool is great right now, although I think it would be useful if we could sample the average of multiple pixels. What do you think? Best regards Bauke
  5. I have some colour profiles but it is not showing up. Where should they be kept so that I can use them for screen and output to inkjet printer.
  6. Is there a way to add a Pantone swatch from the Pantone palette into the document swatches and for it to retain it's name, rather than changing to 'Global Colour x'? Specifically relevant for spot colours from the Pantone Solid Coated & Uncoated books. eg if I select 'PANTONE 205 C; and then add it to my document swatches palette it will be renamed 'Global Colour 1'. If I export a pdf then the colour swatch in the pdf will also be called 'Global Colour 1' Do I have to manually rename the colour back to it's pantone name each time? Also, if I want to change the global colour to another Pantone colour , the edit colour palette won't let me search for another colour by name or show a list. I have to guess from the swatches which is my new colour. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
  7. Hi, new to the program as I was running it on a 10 day trial and had no problems. Today though I cannot see any photos I open from downloads or desktop in Affinity as the background is black and the image is invisible. Never happened on the trial - can anyone help please?
  8. I have been doing car designs on Affinity Designer for a while now, but have never seemed to have been able to colour them in using the fill tool. Any help? Porsche 918 Spyder.afdesign
  9. Update Dropdown What I did was think about components and what parts belong to what. And for this model to be clear from the UI / UX perspective, it means that the other colour options should be separated into their own panels due to their unique attributes. In my experience, I would recommend removing the colour wheel--it adds no functionality that the sliders can't provide and adds a level of complexity to maintain in the long run. I can't keep working for free, so, this is it from me. ----- Previous -----
  10. Hi, How do I change the colour of contents created by the brush on a pixel layer? I want to change to selected item. Please see attachment. Thanks a lot in advance! Soren
  11. Hi, I have searched for this answer but cannot locate it. When opening a psd file in Affinity, the colour shifts to a warm orange/red hue compared to photoshop. Exporting to photoshop is fine-it opens with the correct colours but open again in Affinity and the colours shift back again. The original file has Adobe RGB (1998) embedded I have checked preferences and this is also shown as the colour profile in Affinity. Its almost like it is applying a totally different colour space. Clearly I have missed something but don't know what Appreciate any advice Rgds Tony
  12. Hi, Is there a way to select a Pantone colour by its reference number i.e. P 356U or do I have to wade through the displayed colour swatch and try to find (eventually!) the correct colour Many thanks Mike
  13. I have been doing car designs on Affinity Designer for a while now, but have never seemed to have been able to colour them in using the fill tool. Any help?Porsche GT3 RS.afdesign
  14. I have to make JPGs for use in the web. I do the following steps: create the layout in InDesign. Export it in cmyk as jpg. Open it in affinity photo. Change size. Change from cmyk to rgb. Save as jpg. Now the Problem: in the past I opend the exported jpg in photoshop an made the changes. Now, in affinity photo, the colours in the end-file aren't the same as in photoshop. But this are defined colours and must be the same all time. The colour profiles in photoshop and affinity photo are the same (selected the same). How can I fix that?
  15. I'm having trouble maintaining consistent color between Affinity Designer and other apps, like Hype. What I have done is I create a system palette (Apple OS) in AD, which I then access in Hype. In theory these should be the same, but there is a difference. I get completely different HEX values for system palettes created in AD, but viewed in Hype. I am wondering if I could make a setting change in the "Colour Profiles" preferences. Would this fix my problem? I'm attaching a screenshot showing my settings. (I believe they are all defaults.) [NOTE: I cannot upload the screenshot. When I try to attach a file here it says "Upload Skipped (Error IO). This happens even after a refresh.]
  16. I have some stock AI files that I purchased from a stock library and when I open them in Affinity Designer, all the colour shift from what I'm wanting them to be. I can't figure out how to shift them back! When the files are opened, I get a message popping up saying a profile has been applied to the unprofiled document. It applies US Web Coated SWOP v2. Is there a way to change what profile is applied by default? What am I supposed to be doing? I have been to the document setup panel and tried both assigning a profile, and also converting to a profile, but the colours always remain the same and don't match the colours of the same file when opened in any other applications. Here is the same file opened in Designer and Photoshop. This is a drastic colour shift that I can't understand.
  17. When in split views mode the RGB reading form the right hand side 'before' shot are incorrect. Values displayed appear to be from what would be in that area if the screen was in after only (not split) mode. Also would it not be more natural to have the before shot on the left? or allow swapping of positions.
  18. I'm wanting to merge color swatches between palettes. There doesn't appear to be a way. I can export > import, but that doesn't allow me to merge them. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong!
  19. I have over 20 colors in a palette and need to analyze them. To do so in Illustrator, I would just select each object and view the subtle changes in the color values in the HSL viewer. Unfortunately I am using global colors and want to keep them linked. But it appears impossible to simply select an object and view its values in the colour palette. It only shows the global color name. Yes, I can manually override it, but when I click another object, then go back, it shows the same thing.
  20. I somehow managed to create a new color palette and rename it. Now I want to place my recent colors into it. IDEALLY I wanted to be able to select color swatches I was using and create a palette from those selections. There may be a way to do that. I don't know. However now I'm looking at a screen where my recent colors are there and I am going to assume there's a way to easily place those colors into my new, empty, palette. How is that done? Thank you in advance.
  21. I've been able to import my chosen Pantone books into Designer but there doesn't seem to be an option for working with a tint of a spot colour as in Illustrator e.g., 50% tint of Reflex Blue. Is there an option to do this?
  22. Hi Guys, In this weeks episode we use two examples to take a look at how to select and change colour of just about anything within your photos. Click the link, sit back and relax... Enjoy. Allan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4L7rNc-F5O0
  23. Hi - I've noticed that when I export from Affinity Designer the colours are quite different. Pure white becomes light yellow for example. I'm using a 2012 retina macbook pro that's running El Capitan. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks I've attached a couple of images for comparison PreExport.tiff
  24. Hi all! Am I doing something wrong or is working with gradients is not intuitive. Gradient tool is great, flexible and fast by itself, but when I need to change the colours it becomes frustrating. The colour circle is representing the gradient, but when you click it you are given a choice to select 1 colour, not the gradient range.
  25. Hi Folks, After a spot of help again... So I have a design whereby I have three similar shapes, Each a different colour at present. I now need to match all three. Is there an easy way of matching the colour exactly? Cheers folks Mark
