  1. After poking around thoroughly in Publisher, I did not see one feature that I find incredibly handy in ID - creating 'books'. I saw another thread where someone suggested using Publisher's 'Sections' as a way to handle longer documents, though I'm not sure this is the way to go and keep the program running smoothly. ID handles books by creating a 'container' into which you can add or remove other ID files as 'sections' - allowing you to rearrange each as needed, add/remove pages inside each and automatically updating page numbers as you shift things around. You can even tell the 'book' th
  2. Hi everyone, I've just uploaded a 90 page guide covering the absolute basics of Affinity Photo. If you go here https://theeagerlearner.com/ and subscribe you can download it along with the photos used in the chapters so you can follow along. This guide could be described as the written equivalent of my Affinity Photo: 5 steps to Better Photos course over at udemy. Actually it's the first chapters of a larger book I'm writing which will be the broad equivalent of the Affinity Photo: Solid Foundations course, also at Udemy. But it will be slightly different. I may not cov
  3. Hi I am used to using PagePlus 9 and use the book feature to stitch together many articles with photos from different authors and sources to make a school publication which is photo rich and can run to 90 pages plus at times. The articles arrive randomly over time and the ability to create chapters and then re-order and re-index is invaluable. Is the chapter feature available on Infinity Publisher?
  4. I open an old (Designer) document and what do I see! Pages ... the document has 8 pages and I can now format a document from multiple pages. With overflowing text frames, I hardly need a Publisher! (just kidding). My question is how do I get this? This was on a Ipad! Can someone tell me what hier is happening. I have look on Designer on the windows desktop but is not possible. This a question from one our dutch members.
  5. My wife & I purchased the entire Affinity Suite to save us the headaches we encountered from Word+PDF on KDP/CreateSpace when creating her full-color art tutorial books (sample book here: https://oksanaball.com/books/ or https://amzn.to/2T0Y1Nh ). We liked Affinity Publisher's templates for image layout and placement along with the ability to easily insert automatic fancily formatted image numbers (Word's formatting is impossible for this). These art books are generally laid out as facing pages with text on one side and a bunch various placements of images on the other. We are curr
  6. Ok, here's the scenario for which I am looking for a solution: I am busy layouting a book. I have my text frames all connected from page 1-x. and one large text filling the frames, making up the book. I allocate master pages when new chapters start. New chapters are also new sections, from which I grab the name to fill the <SECTION NAME> variable which shows up at the top of each right-hand page. So far so good. Now if for whatever formatting reason the length of the text changes (images, formatting, spacing), the master pages "move", messing it all up
  7. Hi Guys... I just switched over my actual book project to publisher 1.8 and run into a heavy bug ... over a felt number of 300 pages I cannot scroll down to work in that pages above... They did import correctly, and i can see them all in the pages panel... but i cannot access them to work in that text. Even when i zoom out or try to jump through text .... PS: Page 286 is the end... I can see all the following pages in the panel, but when I doubleclick on it nothing moves in the main window.
  8. I'm using Affinity Publisher to print a Blurb tradebook (6x9), and I'm having issues creating a cover for the book. When I put in the cover specifications (See attached image) when creating a new document, I don't have a place to input the Gutter/Spine measurements. This means when I hit "OK", the document looks like a wide rectangle with no spine in the middle, making it difficult to see if the title will be off-center. There don't seem to be any good tutorials for creating a Blurb book (or any book from start to finish) with Affinity, but if there is one, I'd love a link. T
  9. I have a lot of book typesetting and test Affinity Publisher from time to time. I have always tried to publish a project. I have not yet been able to set a single book with Publisher. It is simply impossible to work professionally with Affinity Publisher (neither v1. 7. 3 nor Beta v1. 8. 0. 523). The orphan and widow settings are a joke and so not usable. Footnotes are completely missing. Book function not available. The speed is so slow that it is unacceptable for a modern program. All in all, in my opinion the software has no sense in this way. For a few flyers or business cards
  10. Is there an Affinity Publisher Workbook? If not are there any plans to publish one. I have been out of the lime light for a while but I am back now and I am getting stuck into Publisher, but I am well out of date so if could someone enlighten me with regard to the book please? Thanks, Tim
  11. Hello, I'm wondering of Affinity Publisher can load and use Blrub's In Design plugin/templates? I saw this as a feature request over a year ago and wonder if this has been adopted yet? I wanted to take advantage of the 30% off sale but this is the primary reason I'd be purchasing the software. Please advise. https://www.blurb.ca/indesign-plugin Regards, Rico
  12. I would like to learn digital compositing (in general, but with Photo specifically) and have found a book https://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-Science-Digital-Compositing-Techniques/dp/0123706386/ which seems to be highly recommended (9 reviews, all 5 stars) but I’m concerned that it might not be what I need. I’m looking for a book that will take me through things like: * How to “read” an image and understand how it was taken/produced and under which circumstances; * How to better understand how an image is coloured and what I can do with it (and what I probably can’t); * How to manipulate
  13. From what I can see, there isn't currently an inbuilt way to build a book cover in publisher? I've completed all of the content of my book, but now need to work out how create the cover in a way that could be adjusted if required. Is the easiest approach to duplicate a master, then change the dimensions to allow for the spine in the centre, adjusting the margins location and design from there?
  14. Here are some experimental book covers which I made a while back – after reading the last book in Neal Asher’s very good “Transformation” series – and rediscovered in a recent housekeeping exercise. They’re all basic – just me playing around with ideas – but I thought I’d share them as I haven’t shared any new stuff for a while. All are variations on the same book title in different genres: “Acid Punk”; 2 x “Basic Sci-Fi”; “Olde Worlde”; and “Standard Thriller”. (Reader’s of Neal’s books may get where the title and some of the imagery of my covers come from.)
  15. I've been working on how to create book covers that imitate those of the pulpy paperbacks of years past. The idea was to work on a method that others could use as a viable - and so necessarily cheap - option for the self and Indie publishing market. I had been making do with an old version of Photoshop Elements that came with my Bamboo Fun & Touch tablet but decided to take the plunge and try Affinity Photo when I got a new computer, and that turned out to be a very good decision. So... I start off in a program nobody likes to mention - Poser. I'm not too fussy about render settings a
  16. Just wanted to share my recent experience. I've just laid out a full 250-page book in APu and overall it has been excellent to work with. I'm not a highly experienced graphics guy though I have done two or three books previously in InDesign. While acknowledging the advice not to work on important jobs in the beta, I couldn't resist the urge not to spend the money on an ID subscription again and also to give this software a proper go. The only significant headache I had was some instability when files got too big (about 30MB) so I ended up splitting the task into three parts and merging the PDF
  17. It will be an A4 format and 50 pages with some vector images... In progress...
  18. I have a book that I want to layout. It has the usual beginning pages that include a TOC. Then I have three sections, each with over a dozen short chapters. The end has a glossary, etc. I am thinking of doing three separate AP files and using the Section feature for each chapter. After outputting the final PDFs, I would have to merge them for the printer. I have used Scrivener to write the book and would probably make changes there and then copy the text to AP. In AP I will add a few images which can't, of course, be anchored to the text flow yet. So I am wondering if this is a
  19. Oh boy, I have so been looking forward to this app finally being available! I can't install the beta until tomorrow to experiment and the videos at this stage don't mention it, but can we place imported long text and have it flow to (ideally auto-inserted) 'next pages' until all of it is placed? I'd hate to have to produce a 400-page book by drawing and linking each text box, page by page. Fingers crossed ...
  20. Hi could someone direct me to an instruction book, manual, or ipad designer for dummies cheers Dave Wallace
  21. Hello, friends of Affinity Photo. I make a suggestion for your affinity book, I believe that on behalf of the entire Latin - Spanish community, we would like to have your book in its Spanish version. Since that would help us to get 100% of your program. Thanks for reading my suggestion and keep going.
  22. Just wondering if the books for affinity were worth the buy. I'm sure it has content, but how much? I'm somewhat of a novice to this stuff I.E I'm cutting my teeth on Affinity.Never used A.I or photoshop. So how Indepth are the books? Does it just touch on each tool/settings or does it go in deep on each one?I want to know what everything does and why.Does this book suit my needs in that dept? PS ive watch a ton of vids on affinity and it's hard to find good vids that explain more than the basics.alot of them seem more like that are just showing what they create instead of a true tu
  23. Been working with one of my oldest friends on this one - children book, which is something I've done in the past at a student level but always fancied doing something pro - I realised my normal ragged comic-esque style would look a little out of place so I tried to come up with a different kind of style for this one - I kind of started off with my first Affinity Designer dabblings and let it snowball from there, I've used photographs of local wood textures to create most of the art - we are just coming to the end of the book now, just 3 or 4 pages off and then Aron, my poet extraordinaire, pa
  24. I am having trouble finding some of the resources for the books such as (07. Retouch3 snapshot) Are these "snapshots" all contained with in the file downloaded
  25. The project is finally done. For the past 13 weeks I’ve been working on a gaming magazine while at SAE. The magazine deals with gaming but unlike other magazines where they talk about news and reviews TossUp talks about in-depth gaming information such as what works, what dose not, fail within games, game mechanics and more. The project was made with a mix of affinity designer, affinity photo and indesign. (This project was made for a uni assessment and is not a real magazine.)
