HI to all I am try to open file coming from Illustrator and Designer lost all the Group and Layer, in complex file is quite a big problem. There is a solution? Thank you for any help 14.ai -
In illustrator one could directly copy some content of a file, and paste as picture in most other programs. When hitting STRG+Copy in Affinity designer, then trying to paste into another program affinity designer silently closes. This is in my opinion not the wanted behaviour, and therefore I consider this a bug. 1.according to the figure I use the latest version, (1.8.5 [703]). 2. yes I can multiple times. 3. not in a file created with AD, but with Illustrator. copied the relevant 2 boxes into this new document.... Is there any tool in Affinity Designer for tracing an image like that in Adobe Illustrator? -

Hi, I had a very unpleasant problem: I draw parts of the face that will be automatically painted using code, but for this I need to save the files in svg and open in adobe illustrator, but the order of the layers changes completely, some become a group, new ones appear ... I need a layer called "color" to be colored, but for some reason it becomes a group. An example in the picture: I need the eyeball to be separate, as in the screenshot in affinity designer, the layer order and grouping are ideal, but everything changes when exporting and opening in the illustrator. I tried changing the settings, grouping, language, names, converting zhlipsy to curves, etc. but it does not work. I really hope that this is just my mistake and that you can fix it thank you in advance!

Hello! I would love to use Affinity Designer for in our workplace. However, until certain features are in place, it would be impossible to do so. Will you be adding more "special" features to Designer in the future that compares to Illustrator? -
I created a graphic in Affinity Designer. I exported it as a SVG. I opened the SVG in Adobe Illustrator to be sure it can be worked on in Adobe. I united some paths w pathfinder, saved and closed the SVG. Next time I see the file, it's gone wonky. Happened at least 2 or 3 times. Why?

I have a lot of adobe work that i need to open with these applications. CS-1 photoshop files CS-1 Illustrator files CS-3 Indesign files Can somebody please let me know if it possible at all? I have a new computer mac mini and none of my older software can run on it. Affinity software can as the store shows its compatible with my mac mini. thanks I know its a long shot but I just have to ask. thanks everyone for the input. I want to buy all three affinity apps soon they just look intuitive and pretty incredible. I need to make pdf's from affinity publisher as well, so hopefully it can export or save as pdf. thanks! -
hello developers and designers , i have a question that i am very confused to buy affinity because it has no shape builder tool , i tried the boolean operation but i could not do the same result in illustrator in speed and achievements , i want to just know if there are plans from developers to do something like or even better than shape builder tool ? it will save time and effort in incredible way for me and i thing many designers too , so please tell me if there just a plans for doing that because i still do not know what should i buy because affinity designer is very strong tool but it has not function that it is very necessary for me and adobe products are really expensive , so please anyone knows anything whether developers or designers tell me because i am very confused , thanks. -

Hello affinity designers ,1- will be there a (shape builder) tool in affinity designer like illustrator ? I cant do any type of golden ratio designes (even with the (devid) then delete) if will there be this tool in future please tell me when becaus i cant do my designes and i think alot of designers are the same 😞 please add it asap 2- when can i export AI files in affinity ? Becaus clients need that always , if you can do these things affinity will be a great tool and it will be my main and i think alot of designers will do the same !! So please if you can tell me when will you do that becaus uptil now i cant design and deal with clients , so i have to use another apps which is realy expinsive but it is the only choice 😞 And thanks alot for your affort ❤ -
So I purchased Affinity Designer for Mac and in all honesty it is amazing application and does 99% of what I need as a graphic designer. There is one thing missing! An IMAGE TRACE FUNCTION. This software would kill off Illustrator and would be perfect for any designer. Why haven't you added this feature yet? When will you add it? Will it be added? A lot of people can't afford Adobe's ridiculous prices and use not exactly legal methods to acquire its software. I love using Affinity Designer but its just LACKING ONE FUNCTION, so PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE add an Image trace function and quickly! Many thanks! Chris.

I know this issue has been around for a while but is there a way to output a pdf to separation studio for screen printing while preserving the separate spot colours as you can when exporting from Illustrator. When i try to export from Affinity i aleays get gradients exporting as cmyk and showing incorrect colours. I have attached an image to show what i mean.

When opening a pdf or svg from an external application, such as Illustrator or QGIS, text on a curve gets broken into separate objects. It would be ideal for the text path to be recreated and have editable text along the path. Attached is an example of what I'm referring to. I'm a cartographer. My primary tools for the last 25 years have been a combination of Illustrator plus a plug-in suite called MAPublisher. I've been very interested in using the Affinity suite of programs in combination with QGIS. To use Affinity Designer, type on a curved path that is imported from other programs is essential.

SELECT SIMILAR & DXF EXPORT

If Affinity Designer is going to truly compete with Adobe Illustrator it MUST include the VERY BASIC but ESSENTIAL functions: SELECT SIMILAR and DXF EXPORT. I still cannot believe this program does not have these features. SSSSoooooooooo many of your customers have requested it, why are you ignoring them!??? Writing the code for these features will be child's play for you surely!!!???? TIME TO GET SERIOUS AFFINITY - include these features and then clean up, it's a WIN-WIN! -
Purchased Publisher 1.8.1 yesterday now that I have the option of opening IDML files. I'm testing a couple of IDML projects at the moment and finding that all .ai files that are a part of the IDML project are opening at greatly reduced sizes compared to the original InDesign project and I don't have the ability to accurately re-size them. Additionally, some are showing with width and height distorted proportions and, again, I don't have the ability to adjust them back to original percentages as the edit tools aren't showing up as they normally would. Even the .psd images are not giving me an Image Details Panel in the Context Tool Bar so that I can edit them. It's a client-supplied template and .ai files make up about 40% of the entire layout, so this is a pretty major ball-ache if I want to try and convert their existing InDesign to Publisher, for future use. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I'm running Mojave 10.14.6 on iMac. -
hi guys, I am hoping someone can please help as I MUST be doing something wrong as I can't believe the basic functionality of Designer would be so poor, it must be me! I have an EPS file which has lots of objects in it, and if I open this in Illustrator, I can select every single object, but open that file in Designer and it will only allow me to select the massive block. I am clicking a million times (which I thought would allow me to delve further into the group), but I just can't do anything with it. As I said above, it must be me doing something wrong, but can someone please tell me how to select each individual object in this file? I've uploaded a screenshot so you can see how the 2 apps behave SO differently. Thanks.

Hi, I know the question of importing Rhino created Ai files into AD has been asked a few times already. The main goal is: Importing a vector export format (eg: AI, DWG, DXF, etc) which contains all layer information into AD. (PDF alas does not meet this goal) I figure, since we're on Rhino 6.21 and AD 1.7.3, there might be some added support between these two. So has there been any improvements on this particular part? If not, has anyone had any success on importing DWG with layer information into AD? I noticed this format is not supported on AD, is there a reason why? -
Hi there, I’m fairly new to the affinity programs but I have been using the Adobe suite for some time, and I’m struggling with a few basics… any help would be very gratefully appreciated! Affinity Photo: When saving images for the web in photoshop I just use save for web and devices. Is this the same as similar as using export and choosing jpg? I can’t find any way to batch process images to crop to both landscape and portrait images so that they are all a specific height and width. Is there a way to do this? As a work around I decided to crop them all. So I set up a preset but this is now greyed out and I can’t use it anyway! I also thought maybe I could crop all of the open images and then do some sort of bulk export but I can’t find a way of doing that? Publisher: Does publisher somehow make you files much smaller? I opened an ai doc in Publisher which was 300MB. I made a few minor edits in Publisher and saved and I notice that it is 88MB! Is this usual? Thanks in advance! Sarah. -
I have an issue with the Add operation in comparison to Illustrator. As of now, I don't believe there is a feature that allows us to select by fill or color, this prohibits me from being able to select only the black infill and then add or merge them together as one shape. In Illustrator, I can select by fill color, select "unite" in the pathfnder window (which I believe is the equivialent to "add" in affinity) my design comes out perfect. With affinity, since there is no option to select on by fill color, I have to select everything, then select "add" which fills in portions of the object with solid black.

Hi, Affinity Forum! I recently purchased AD and AP to scratch an itch and start doing more of my own graphics design work. As I become accustomed to the software and develop my design skills, I lean on stock graphics websites for things I can't yet build myself. The problem is that I'm having a very hard time finding graphics and illustrations that can be reliably managed by AD/AP. It didn't take me long to figure out that free graphics are out, which is just as well because those sites are a nightmare to navigate. I also found that with many inexpensive graphics, AD would either report that the file doesn't contain a PDF stream so it can't be opened, or it would automatically assign a color palette to the file and it would look too distorted to use. Based on my experience, I think the problem isn't with AD/AP but my graphics sourcing. I've had a little bit of luck with VectorStock, but I haven't found any websites that track the kind of compatibility features that AD needs (like a PDF stream for .ai files). Has anyone come up with guidelines for AD/AP-safe stock graphics or identified any sites that are consistently reliable? Shutterstock seems like the obvious choice, but I want to see if there are any less expensive alternatives, or at least any sites that sell assets individually. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help! -
This is a feature that has likely already been requested to be added, but I searched the forums and didn't notice anyone posting this same sort of request. In CC 2019, a REALLY nice gradient feature got added to Illustrator called the Freeform Gradient. The way you use it is you add different points for the gradient to follow. You can make them different colors, make gradient paths using points, and even adjust how much those colors spread from those points. Unfortunately, Designer doesn't have this feature yet and I would really like to see it implemented soon because it seems like such a nice way to make gradients. There are also gradient meshes, but it seems like Designer doesn't have these either, even though these seem a bit harder to work with on average. I don't use Illustrator currently, but I have in the past and I think Affinity Designer lacks some of the features that Illustrator does. There are a couple more things that I can think of that I don't see an option for in Designer, but there is one for in Illustrator. I can make 1 or 2 separate posts about those, though.- 5 replies

I have a lot of Illustrator files that have elements (assets) outside of the main canvas. When I try to open these in Affinity Designer, everything outside of the canvas gets permanently clipped and removed, leaving me with only objects that are visible (or partially visible) on canvas (they can't be made visible with View > View Mode > Clip to Canvas). I need to import/open these files preserving all data, is there any way? -

OK... this concerns Designer for windows. I do a promotional calendar every year for my business. Slategroup in texas does the printing for me.(and I recommend them HIGHLY) They have numerous templates on their website, and the one I use is the Illustrator 8.5/11 calendar. I like designer very much, and would love it if I could transition over... So, I have a couple of issues. 1. I can open an Illustrator file, but I can't save it back to Illustrator. I could export to PDF or EPS, but my preference would be to keep it as an illustrator file. I have similar issues with Affinity Photo. 2. and this one is more complicated. The calendar consists of Cat pictures that I take for the local shelter. The template has individual artboards for 28 pages; front and back covers, 13 calendar grids, and 13 essentially blank pages for pictures. The calendar grids are pretty spare, black on white with Arial text. I use these as a starting point, making some graphic changes, using a different typeface and then putting a low saturation gradient background in to add some texture. Making these changes is easy in Illustrator, less so in Designer. What I need to be able to do is select all the text on one of the grids, and change the font and font sizes. Otherwise I'm stuck changing 365 days of dates one at a time. Here's where it get really weird. The other day as I was fussing around, I was able to do just that, select all the text on an artboard and make all the needed adjustments. Today, I am losing my mind trying to repeat that. So, I am throwing myself at your mercy... Thanks in advance John Fischer
