  1. Hi everyone, I recorded this quick tutorial on how to create a sepia tone in Affinity Photo. I hope you guys find it interesting.
  2. After being made redundant last year and losing my access to a CC subscription I decided to switch to Affinity Photo and Designer for my personal work. I got to work in Designer immediately using it to put together a new CV & Portfolio which meant I was then employed as soon as my gardening leave ended. The one off payment made much more sense as for personal work as there may be weeks at a time when I don't have the need for image manipulation as I'll still be working on the 3D side of any project. I've found the switch very easy and have no plans to go back to Adobe for personal work even though I now have CC access again via my new job. This was my entry for the Automotive CGI Facebook group monthly competition where I tried to focus on a low key lighting setup. The Carrera & Porsche vinyl decals were created in Affinity Designer and all of the post production was finished in Affinity Photo. The base render was achieved in 3DS Max 2023 & Corona 11. I've included screenshots of the raw render and the layer stack so please feel free to critique.
  3. Here is a painting of a seascape in thin acrylic using DAP Pro 8 and Affinity Photo. Video of creation included. Sea Scape_2.mp4
  4. Hi all, I thought I'd give myself a quick project to explore Affinity's Shape tools and make a series of images. I've made some fish like creatures, but other themes could easily used, like monsters, faces etc. I was thinking this idea could help new users learn about the Shape tools and generally have some creative fun. When I get a few spare moments, my intention is to further embellish each shape with colours, different fills, backgrounds, text etc Note: the bitmap fill is from The Shizzle Style and Brush Pack (Grizzle 1), the paper texture is from True Grit Texture Supply (Folio-Vellum) and additional line shading is from Artifex Forge's Vintage Engraved Patterns (Pattern 6). Yes, I have splashed out on the Spring Sale offers!
  5. Ripley from Aliens painted in Affinity photo. One of my first times using Affinity after making the switch from Adobe. Experimented with various brushes, perhaps soft brushes set to low opacity. The fog is created with a smoke or fog brush, tons of options out there. I still prefer traditional pencils, charcoals, and blenders for anything in the "portrait" world. I remember reading in a tutorial that soft brushes can give your work a "plastic" look to it. The world is yours, create awesome artwork and keep learning!
  6. This design was created using Affinity Designer and Photo. Ehh the color and quality loss after uploading is painful and have had similar results on Pinterest. Anyway, Batman the Ride is one of the greatest coasters ever and had visited Six Flags over Texas and Great America last fall. There was no cool merch for the ride anywhere, so wanted to try and create something to do the ride justice. I created the outline using the pen tool in Designer with some vector fills to block in certain areas. I then imported the file into Affinity Photo and started coloring and adding detail with various brushes. I've had good results with the Nathan Brown brush packs. Thanks to Affinity for creating this great program, I will never go back to Adobe again. I WAS NOT commissioned by DC or Six flags to create this art.
  7. Another video! When I lived on the Isle of Wight, we could hardly move without falling over a Morris Dancer. As a folksinger, I naturally met and made friends with a lot of dancers and musicians there. Some years ago, a lady name Helen Akitt wrote this funny song poking gentle fun at her Morris chums, a parody of the lovely song The Whitsun Dance, and I've been singing it ever since I discovered it. The assets in this still--the grass, trees and flowers--actually came from DrawPlus. I saved them as svg and imported them into AD. The unusual format with decorations down each side is because I made the 'pages' in A3 format with a view to printing them some time; YouTube resizes everything to 16:9, which would leave black bars at the sides. And now I'm going to have a rest . . .
  8. I saw a story about terraforming another planet for humans to live on. It was a very interesting story, but I think it is not possible in the near future. Because there are too many variables and humans are too weak. This time, I tried to express that kind of thinking. "The Last Day" Speed Art : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVUItomYpFk
  9. 1. It is not possible to set a date taken for old photographs. Try tagging a photo taken in, say, 1926. It will not be saved and will come back blank when the file is reopened. 2. IPTC fields are short, for example, some longer country names must be entered abbreviated rather than in their correct form.
  10. My latest picture quiz round. Tv set created in designer. 20 placeholders inside the TV image for the images. All images converted to B&W and a levels adjustment on the majority of images. I created masks to obliterate the backgrounds in the images to take away the fussy details. in APhoto. designed on an A4 will be enlarged to A3 one per team on the night. Comments on the creation and final (almost) presentation as always are welcome. have fun with identifying the faces. As always I look forward to @William Overington blistering observations which are 2nd to none
  11. In recent update i think simultaneous grid update while changing spacing does not work anymore which makes it extremely useless and hard to use please fix the problem about that or mention any solution. ( grid updates in older versions. please help.)
  12. Saw this from a video from the affinity YouTube channel and wanted to know how this was done, since had asked and someone told me it was brushes maybe but they weren't 100% sure. So I wanted to know if someone knows how to do so and if you could show a small tutorial if possible since I wanted to test this on a project in affinity designer v2 and in affinity photo. Hopefully I put this in the area of the forums to ask for help.
  13. Having fun with Affinity Photo - loads of layers and layer effects, even more headaches, and photographs of a scent bottle and a wet paving slab to create the textures of the trefoil and ring...
  14. Hi Everyone, Can someone please help me with Hair Brush that I can add to the Affinity Photo on the Mac. I am looking out for Hair Brush.

  16. Suggested improvements to States feature: Ability to rearrange order of States. Ability to rename States. Ability to group States in names Groups. Ability to capture unique File/EXIF/IPTC data per State. Safeguard accidental deletion of States. Safeguard accidental update of States. Safeguard accidental deletion: the Add and Delete buttons for States are very small and very close together. The incidence of accidentally clicking Delete while trying to add a new State is very high. Delete has no confirmation and no undo. Options: relocate buttons or confirm delete or undo delete State using document History? Same problem with hitting Update when aiming for Settings. Metadata: layer States are effectively subdocuments/variants, which when exported often need specific amendments to metadata (eg: if a layer containing a cat is turned off, there should no longer be a metadata tag for 'cat' when exported). At the moment, the only solution is to mash metadata for all States together and then amend metadata manually when exporting them, as was the case before States were available. If States captured metadata it would be very useful. [As an aside, I would add editing tag metadata is currently difficult because there is a text justification and scrolling bug for that field creating abnormally large gaps between tags that constantly shift while typing, making it hard to proof-read tags for punctuation and spacing errors. Tags have to be edited in Notepad and pasted in because it is too difficult to type them directly.]
  17. Hello, When I open the psd smart file below, I got error directly in the app opening: Unknown property : EffectGradientFill,gs99 Unknown property : AdjustmentGradientFill, gradientsInterpolationMethod Unknown property : EffectGradientFill,gs99 It causes the texture of the background (which uses pattern) missing. Can you fix it so that it acts normally like in photoshop, please? My computer: Apple M1 Max MacOS 14.3 (23D56) App version: Affinity Photo 2.3.1 thirt-mockup-for-bug-report.psd
  18. I thought I'd have a go at correcting the flaw in the family photo HRH Kate released. I used Affinity Photo 2 clone brush and tone mapping to remove the bit everybody was talking about.
  19. Liebes Forum!
  20. I create most of the Quizzes for my local bowls club and I always l try to make the half time break quiz a bit different. Most of the time I just hash a picture quiz together with no shape of form but I thought of this design for the latest picture quiz. the 16 Box layout and numbers created in Designer. The rest of the work in Photo. I usually just pick images at random but sometimes with a theme. This one has a theme which once guessed makes the quiz even easier.
  21. I like the "Displace-Filter" very much, have it used for painterly effects like this.
  22. So I have a project I just finished that was a live document. I kid you not, as I’m clicking to go hit save or export or something to make a hard copy… the program glitches, crashes. I go back in to reopen the file, but it instead duplicated 3 project folders somehow… there is a thumbnail of the file inside but no live document to open (it says 0) so I can’t save it from the dashboard. I assumed there would be some temp folder for the cached files I could scrounge for and reopen the last instance, but I can’t find one and don’t see any mention of one. Is it hidden in system folders? I am so frustrated. In other programs, this would be the natural troubleshooting but not here… is there some way to restore a file from cache or did I just lose a lot of work because the file corrupted/disappeared? I have my files stored in the iPad, not syncing to a cloud. edit; I can rename the folder, which renames all 3. I tried updating, restarting the app and iPad.
  23. I am trying to tone map a large image. Three attempts. On two it crashed Photo. On the other it crashed Windows 11 - it froze. When it crashes Photo, it shows the progress bar for tone mapping for a few seconds, then closes Photo. I have just updated to the most recent version. I have tried on three other images - same problem. System: i9 14900, 128gb ram, 2070 graphics.
  24. A5 flier, all done in Designer and Photo apart from the 5 star logo and Chef along with Gary's image. Colour laser printed (20 A5's for double sided Perspex table flier holders)(3 A4's for notice boards) (1 A5 emailed as an attachment to the membership)
  25. All photo's sourced at Unsplash. Ancient pillars created using shapes and textures. Colour scheme courtesy of my brain.
