Helmuth Pandora reacted to Seneca in Export Persona in Publisher
Apologies if this was started already as a suggestion.
I think that Export Persona should be very useful in Publisher. Imagine trying to negotiate various PDF export options.
Being able to PDF only certain pages or exporting pages in other formats would really be great.
I know that we have Export command but Export Persona would act as some sort of Presets for a variety of exporting options.
This should be a low-hanging fruit for the dev. team as most of the functionality already exists in Export Persona in Designer and Photo.

Helmuth Pandora reacted to CraigB in [IDML Implemented] How can I open Indesign (indd and idml) Files in Publisher?
I agree with Fixx. I’ve done contract work (book design) where the final product was an InDesign file but that is (for me) a very edge case.
I do, however, have an archive of completed projects that (every so often) I’m asked to update for a client and I really (REALLY!!!) don’t want to have to keep a copy of InDesign on my system. I would like to make a clean break with Adobe and, at this point, InDesign is the holdout.
That said, I don’t expect the migration to a new desktop layout application to happen overnight. I remember a long and strenuous transition from Quark to InDesign almost 20 years ago that still makes my left eye twitch.
IF Publisher turns out to be viable I can create IDML versions of those projects for which I have not already done so. (My normal workflow is to create an IDML from the final INDD file when a project is complete so I can open files on older versions of InDesign or Quark in a pinch.)
Importing INDD files into Publisher is not as important to me as importing (and possibly exporting) IDML files for maximum forward compatibility.
It would be great if the IDML import successfully imported the character, paragraph, and object styles.

Hyperlinks are shurely very useful for all documents, that are not only designated to print.

It seems that there is no way to import an InDesign document. (This is the first thing I tried to do with Publisher.)
I have quite a lot of Indesign document I would like to work on with Publisher (one way import - no need to reexport to Indesign).
Is there a way in the current beta to do it ? Do you plan to have this feature before official launch ?
    Great work anyway.

Helmuth Pandora reacted to ch1ptune in [Implemented] Is it possible to package a project in Publisher?
Coming from InDesign, I was particularly looking forward to seeing how Publisher handles links and packages. So far I've gathered that it embeds resources by default, but that you can release the embed and change the setting to linked in the resource manager. But is it possible to package and collect all files as it is in InDesign?
Say you have a very large document with 20-30 GB worth of links and you want to send it over to someone else to finish the project. How would you go about that in Publisher? Will the document file size be 20-30 GB in that case? Sometimes I send the InDesign file without links to other people, so they can see the layout. In that case it would be quite cumbersome to include all resources. And what if you only wanted to send a couple of the linked files - how would you easily access those files from within Publisher? I don't see a "Reveal in finder" option for linked files.

Hi,  is there any chance you announce a future roadmap for the development of Publisher?
Would help to see what you have in mind besides our recommendations.

These settings are quite often identical for all sides, thus a chainlink button in all the dialogue boxes where these settings show up would save time.

Helmuth Pandora reacted to tariq in anchoring tables (and images) into the (reflowable) text
having a tables feature (with proper styles) is great

but I can't figure out how to anchor the table into the text .. so that if the text moves, the table moves with it .. I guess the same question applies to inserted images..

this is what I meant earlier on here an on twitter - Publisher needs to be more than Designer with pages .. it needs to take into account workflow for longer texts .. so if I add a word on page 3, and that causes text to move all the way down to page 293, the images and tables etc need to move too..

is it the case that I just can't find how to do this?

thanks Chris - is this a priority? should I wait a few weeks or will it be years?
I think you're doing amazing work but please don't make Publisher just designer with pages...

Helmuth Pandora reacted to Peter Werner in Preferences to set First Line Indent and Column Gutters in pt rather than mm
I personally like to set these values based on the point size of my text to ensure they harmonize with the measurements of the text as well as things like em spaces. I know it is possible to type in other units into the input fields, but it would be nice if they could also displayed in that fashion. That way, if I change the size of my text in a paragraph style, I would be able to immediately tell whether the indent setting needs adjusting or not.

Helmuth Pandora reacted to Greg1 in Spreads
    Could we change the spreads?
I don't always work using facing pages but still wish to use spreads Could we also change the number of pages in a spread ( I can go as high as 10+ pages in a spread on a regular basis) Could we also have different page sizes in the same document (in height as well as width)? Could we also be able to colour code the pages I use InDesign a lot and these are the core feature I use on a daily basis, see the screenshot of InDesign to illustrate my point

In Indesign everything (numbers/measures/fonts/…) you change when there's no document open it will use as a default.
Would be handy in Publisher — saves an awful lot of time.

    thanks!

Helmuth Pandora reacted to postmadesign in wrap image box to image?
I can seem to find a way to wrap an image box to the image to get an exact fit. In indesign I would double click a handle to resize the box to fit the containing object. This is a very important feature for precision layouts.
