  1. They are probably doing what Gamemaker will do with their new version of software. Current version is buy once use forever but next version will be subscription based. Just like how Adobe did it when they migrated to the CC versions I think. It was inevitable really. Corel does it too, although you can pay once... ~$800. RIP indies.
  2. I don't think Affinity has this feature. I've never seen it / can't find it.
  3. I can confirm that I have 1 normal Publisher entry and 2 separate beta entries too.
  4. You can find the links for the old versions here. Affinity Designer (Windows) Affinity Photo (Windows) Affinity Publisher (Windows)
  5. Hello everyone! This saturday our servers' files have been encrypted by EKING ransomware and I'm afraid that my Affinity product license files might got out in the process. None of my local files were damaged, only the network volumes got encrypted up to the letter "M". I quickly removed everything related to Affinity from my PC at work. What's the general approach when something like this happens? Should I be worried? Since my license can only be used at most on 5 machines, if people on the internet gets hold of it, will I get blocked somehow when I try to use it later? Can I install the Affinity suite back? Thank you for any info you can give me.
  6. Just came across this freezing issue. Good to hear it's already at dev team. Thanks!
  7. Oh? Did not know that. I don't know where I got that key combination from. Thanks!
  8. Did not have this issue, although I did a full reset after upgrading by holding down Ctrl + Alt + Shift while opening Publisher to avoid any settings problems.
  9. Hi, the title says it all I think. I tried to import our quarterly product catalogue which we work on in InDesign. I tried to import it as an IDML in Publisher 1.8, but the following things happen: Have to wait several minutes (3-5) to even see something happening, after dragging the IDML file onto Publisher. When it opens and I try to move any image (snapping turned off), it takes about 4-5 seconds for Publisher to move that image over. Cannot save the file as .afpub, Publisher just hangs. The images the catalogue uses are wildly varied in size, from small 72 dpi all the way to A0 size 300 dpi images. The IDML file with all the linked files is roughly 7 GB in size. Now, I understand that IDML import is a very new feature. I'm just trying to figure out if it's on my end or it's a generic problem. If I import roughly 100 images from the same catalogue into a newly created Publisher document, then all is well, everything's snappy and I can save it easily (it only takes about 2 seconds, just wow), also it opens in about a second or so. Also, you guys are making great strides and I did not regret buying the holy Affinity trio. Thanks! 10. Hi Callum, I look forward to how you plan to improve upon it. All your software are great as is, but there will be always something to do. Thanks!
  11. Hi, At the office I do a lot of online banners in Photoshop which require a lot of variations in size. My workflow usually consists of placing and embedded image onto one of the artboards (I have about 10 artboard / PSD), converting it to a smart object, then going into the smart object and masking out the background of said product. This a a huge time-saver in the long run. I can copy-paste the same smart object all over the place and all the things I do inside the smart object get updated on all of them. I know Designer's Symbols feature is somewhat like this, but I'd like to be able to do this in Photo since its raster tools are superior. Also when I used ~6 symbols in a single AD document with about 10 artboards, it was very unstable, meaning AD crashed frequently when I tried to modify the symbols. My question, will Affinity Photo or Designer include something like Convert to Smart Object (I know they use nondestructive placement by default, so no need for smart object), so that we wouldn't need to create a separate AD/AP file, save that and manually place it inside the document? OR is there something similar which I do not know about?
  12. I know it's been already reported to the developers, but wanted to inform you that I ran into this problem too with my own AD document.
  13. I wouldn't hate on Affinity personally. We have to take into account that Affinity's very small compared to Adobe and also, they don't milk you for $52.99 a month, like Adobe does. Affinity Photo is tremendously good value, but everything has its downsides. I agree though that it shouldn't take 2 years to add proper support for one of the biggest manufacturer's camera.
  14. That is indeed quite strange. Has to do something with Affinity's RAW engine I guess. I can't help you with this, but I can confirm that Photoshop does not have this problem, while in Affinity Photo the photo has a highly visible magenta shift.
  15. My only gripe is that Designer crashes fairly constantly when I use artboards to do web banners and its several different sizes. AD does not like Ctrl dragging to copy and move layers. Also, I think that Serif does development similarly as all other developers do. Their people are split up, some of the work on core features, some of them on the new ones, while someone works on fixing bugs. No human resources are taken away from core features. I might be wrong though, because Serif is a small company, so they might not have the manpower to dedicate people to distinct features.
  16. Hello, I know this is a minor issue, just wanted to you to know it exists, just in case. I did not find anything related to this on the forums, I'm sorry for double posting if it has been mentioned already. APub's loading screen icon does not match the icon used inside the software. It's also not square (1:1 ratio) like it used to be. Please see the attached screenshot. Thank you for the awesome work you do guys! Finally someone who genuinely stepped on Adobe's toes.
  17. I agree with you. I'm confident that Affinity will come up with something that none of us would have predicted or maybe they'll use your suggestion, I don't know. They already fixed a lot of things that came up in the beta phase, so no worries. This would be a real challenge to implement I think, but it I can see how it might be useful on big projects. For now a simple folder system or anything that is a similar, visual organization system. I love the "Show Samples" feature! Except when using indents in styles, then it looks like it's another style's substyle which is confusing on first glance.
  18. To be fair, InDesign works the same. You need to Apply the Next Style too, not just click the style that contains this rule. Although, I agree, that most of the time it would be more useful if it would be the default setting. Maybe add a checkbox beside the setting Use Always? Also, it would be awesome to have a folder system in the Text Styles studio, similar to the Layers studio or in InDesign. It gets pretty chaotic if you have more than a few styles.
  19. Hello everyone! Publisher is chugging along very nicely. Whenever I try to apply a style to the body copy and use Next Style to indent all the following paragraphs' first lines it works fine, for the first time. When I try to edit the indent style—for example have 6pt instead of 3pt indents—it does not work. Upon checking to make sure, these paragraphs don't even have the mentioned "first line indenter" style applied, instead they have the general Body style. This approach works fine if you have a Style The Next Style applied to your text box before you start typing. I'm attaching a sample file that you might want to look at. And sorry if this problem has been posted already, I did not find anything while searching the forums. next-style-problem.afpub
  20. They are reevaluating the resource manager, so I guess they will rethink how linking and embedding works too.
  21. The assets studio panel requires some tune up in general. Reordering, sorting and editing assets for example. One thing I love about Adobe is the CC Libraries feature. Affinity assets is usable, although a bit clunky right now.
  22. I agree. Serif will think of something clever, I'm sure. We do need a better a way to manage files placed, linked or embedded in a document. The funny thing about embedded files though is that, looking at Designer and Photo, I don't think that it would be hard for Publisher to manage a publication of about 1000 embedded images. Designer already does a great job at resource management (CPU, Memory, GPU etc.). I've imported a catalogue PDF inside made with InDesign into Publisher, it had about 700 embedded 300 DPI resolution images accross 64 pages. Altough it took about 15 seconds to open the file, the performance after that was remarkable.
  23. I really don't think that you should attempt anything, especially learn a software that is not intended to be used by someone who never used some kind of similar software before. The tutorials explain just enough so we get brought up to speed, so we can test the heck out of Publisher. Please wait for the actual 1.0 release before judging the tutorial section and don't get so defensive and call someone a liar.
