Welcome to the Affinity Forums, Chaz. :) The Pen Tool is used for drawing. If you want to create a selection, switch to the Pixel Persona and use the selections tools there.

A broken circle ??
Alfred replied to Mvdarbs's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Affinity on Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Couldn't you just overlap a donut and a triangle and then add them (via the 'Add' button on the Geometry toolbar) or have I misunderstood what you're trying to do? Mountain_logo.afdesign -
Add Negative Values for 'First Line Indent'

I see, thanks. I've never used Illy, so I have no preconceptions about how this kind of thing should work! -
Add Negative Values for 'First Line Indent'
Alfred replied to Brett Stebbins's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Why do you have to go back and forth between two fields? If you want a first line 'outdent' (i.e. hanging indent) of 1.5 cm, you just set the left indent to 1.5 cm and then set the first line indent to 0 cm, exactly as Dave Harris described. -
Yours is OK already, Johnny. When I first saw it, I thought it looked like this (exaggerated to show the problem): The one at the bottom of my page was made by me. It's just an enlarged copy of the one on the right in the top row, with a triangle added for the arrowhead.

You got it! I expect to see hanging indents in Affinity Publisher, but I'd love to see them in Designer as well. -
[1.5.0.10] Adding noise to a fill

Earlier today I found out about another hidden option. There are probably many more! -

Why Star Time JL for missing fonts
Alfred replied to busterkeaton's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on Windows threads
I've just tested this in AD on Windows beta 1.5.0.10. It doesn't remember my changes, even in the same session, regardless of whether or not I check the 'Replace missing fonts' checkbox. -
That works OK for drawing a line which is perfectly horizontal or vertical, but if you want a sloping line you have to rotate it as a separate step. With an arbitrary centre of rotation (i.e. not the end or the middle of the line) you can't rotate by a precise angle because you have to drag on the page instead of entering a value in the Transform panel. :(

Dynamic Font Loading/Availability
Alfred replied to preahkumpii's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
This is yet another of those options which is rather too well hidden! Having said that, it works fine for adding a font but the current AD on Windows beta version crashes if I unload/uninstall a font and then visit the point in the font name dropdown list where the font previously appeared; it also crashes if I try to modify a text object which used that font. -

+1 Serif PagePlus does this. It would be good to see Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo doing the same. Even the free LibreOffice Writer has this functionality. -

Thanks, Dave. That's very helpful. -
Yes, but ... after the beta phase is completed, how long are we likely to have to wait for the commercial version of the program?

Catch up to PagePlus?
Alfred replied to Phil_rose's topic in [ARCHIVE] Designer beta on Windows threads
Have you investigated the options offered by the Pixel Persona in Affinity Designer? It isn't anything like PhotoLab in DP and PP, but at least it allows you to work at the pixel level.
