  1. There is a risk to lose potential customers that need basic text features, that are natural in other design apps. Welcome here and thanks for sharing your opinion, bazzza.
  2. Even quicker: If the default units are inches, then you can type 3+9/16. Otherwise 3+9/16" in 1.5. Dave, will × and ÷ work in future?
  3. It is not a bug. Just read the Affinity Help. You cannot set a unit here because those values are relative values.
  4. Whew! All Affinity app purchasers (who had good reasons) are glad to read this. Thanks!
  5. Markio, you can start a feature request for that. Hopefully “Replicate/Blend” will be a solution.
  6. Matt, some of those “edge cases” purchasers have noticed that you like(d) those statements. Raising fears … Will Serif Labs leave the App Store and concentrate on Windows?
  7. Hi, in AD we use eight artboards and export “Whole document” as PDF. Does this help? Sorry, this is not explained very well in the Affinity Desgner Help.
  8. Well, the answer seems to be on the CFRI, not on the ADFR.
  9. The answer in 2014 was something like “different apps need different capabilities”, which really shocked. Basic visual design features like optical margin alignment should be integrated in AD, because a frame text tool and other text features (like kerning) are already integrated. Serif does not forbid to use AD for posters and advertisements with bad typography, but Serif could prevent bad typography. For example with a factory preset for real ragged margin and correct text flow.
  10. For a better usability, please change at least the light colour of the search text (or/and of the top right search field) and change the colour or add a symbol like  for iOS or macOS contents. Could be done in less than 0.125 cat minutes.
  11. Moin Moin, Dominik. Welcome here. A bit like that very light color of the search text in this forum. And it is not consistently solved (compare with the export).
  12. For example Gill Sans and Zapfino have the same “carelessies” but you get the correct results. It makes no sense to assume what was programmed. The only thing that counts is that users get the correct results. They told us they will fix it.
  13. Please tell us, what in “4cm/c results in 4.0904…cm“ needs more information to check the algorithm of calculating cap heights.** And have you tried the bold marked text part? BTW: The answer was no improvements. That really motivates purchasers! **All other apps are wrong and only AD’s cap heights are correct?!
  15. If you type in 4 cm (for a square/pictogram) and don’t get (a square/pictogram with) 4 cm, you would try to change it by hand/manually? Very funny. Working without a computer would be better. Changing the font size is a great idea. :D Using cap height has many advantages. Do you know how big a text is when using “Text Height”? Most users don’t. They know it when using cap height. Hot metal typesetting should be be a thing of the past. You don’t have to know everything (about typography), you need apps that work correctly. BTW: Other designers have no time, use other apps or don’t know that AD has a cap height feature.
  16. I understand. Some people are like one because they are grown together. This was said before. We were/are four/two people.
  17. That gives hope. Thanks!!! We just wanted correct results and you wrote you will not improve them. No occasion for US citizens for legal actions as in the case of VW values. ;-) We don’t think that (many) font metrics are unreliable. But our thoughts don’t count. Perhaps paolo.limoncelli will tell the correct formula. Other apps deliver the correct values for all fonts. AD delivers correct cap heights for Geneva, but not for Optima, Gill Sans, Palatino, Calibre, Futura, Big Caslon, … The use of points: not forbidden in GB, but in the EU?
  18. People use/buy other apps when usual basic features are missing or are not delivered in addition or provide wrong results like “Expand Stroke”. Many purchasers don’t want workarounds when they don’t see improvements but new half-baked features.
  19. We purchased the app with our money and took our time to tell Serif that there is something to improve, because the app provides wrong results (eight from ten, in other apps: zero from ten). We got the answer that Serif (Dave Harris) will not change it, which does not motivate purchasers to help Serif with further purchases, warm-hearted recommendations, bug reports, feature requests, answering questions …
  20. When we (purchasers of your apps) tell you what has to be calculated with which values of the fonts to get the correct results like in other apps, do we get an Affinity Publisher at no charge?
