  1. Thanks for the info! That does seem a surprisingly generous offer. I may well take a stroll down the High Street for a quick glance tomorrow...
  2. Yes, they certainly are both helpful and kind. And they really know their onions! I've learnt so much being on here, and I've yet to post a question. It's (virtually) a great place to be.
  3. Thank you for the clarification, Patrick. Please excuse my premature enthusiasm. R
  4. To TomWolsky and Alfred I remember starting on here and finding a James Ritson post that helpfully pointed to an alternative Affinity YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQZN-kIrZUQyoTnexM3jJAw/playlists?sort=da&flow=grid&view=1 This has the videos helpfully grouped by theme into playlists that progress you from beginner onwards. In the top right corner, if you click Sort By and choose Date Created (Oldest), you can just work your way down the page as you see fit. I think this alternative Affinity page deserves to be made the default YouTube portal. It is more useful in getting to grips with the programme. R
  5. The man from Del Monte, he say yes! To the Serifs of Nottingham, we say Thanks. Indeed Christmas will come early this year. 500 pages of glorious Affinity fun on old-school paper and ink. Lovely stuff. Beware, Patrick. The massing hoardes will beseige your towers with book vouchers and carrier bags...
  6. David The algorithm is optimised for meerkats? I wondered why our family portraits were so disappointing.
  7. Excellent. Very helpful. I'll try them later. Thank you Carl.
  8. Dave Sorry for any puzzling on your part. I take note of your threads as I'm a relative newbie to full-fat photo manipulation and seeing your avatar (along with a dozen or so others whose wisdom I venerate) is an entertaining short cut to learning the ropes and finding interesting ideas. But as you can see from my face, I'm really just some random, fairly generic, guy off the internet . R (Time to stop. Feel guilty of taking up too much Affinity bandwidth with Off-topic old bloke guff.)
  9. Carl123 Thanks for the above technique. I can see this is going to come in extremely useful over the coming months. You say there are a few ways to do this. Could you possibly mention other techniques we could look at? Here in the UK, flat lighting is just one of several natural gifts that we get frequent opportunities to enjoy thanks to the Gulf stream.
  10. Dave Another photo that looks strangely familiar! Hmm, now let me see... Well, my best guess would be the Llanthony valley in mid July. A wonderful place. Is it somewhere near? Hopefully the DTs have worn off by now.
  11. Well, both characters in the photo do seem to have aged a bit. The one on the right seems somehow familiar. Is that Llandudno pier behind you? Or does all victorian ironmongery look alike?
  12. I thought I was going to stumble upon a comedy mock-up of the much anticipated Affinity Photo workbook. But this is precisely nine times better. I can picture it under the christmas tree. Lovely work. (If you'd like to have a go at the AP cover I'm sure you'd delight many on here.)
  13. -MBd Captain Straker keeps coming up with all these interesting left field techniques because he not only thinks outside the box, he actually climbs out of the box himself and runs off over the hills and far away. I think the word for him is curious. (In a good way, of course!) -Dave I got something similar when I was playing with your Blurred High Pass Sharpen suggestion this morning and trying out different blend modes. But without your intellectual rigour, I just carried on scrolling til I found something less surprising instead... (There's a word for that too, but it's not particularly complimentary.) -Thank you for sharing the results of your inquisitive nature with us. It is much appreciated.-
  14. Sima This is a good idea; and with a delightful illustration! B) Thank you for tickling my funny bone this morning.
  15. I have to absolutely echo Jacques' sentiments. I feel so lucky to have found such a helpful and supportive community of like minded people. What amazing work indeed. Three cheers for affinity!
  16. Thank you, thank you. This is exactly what I was looking for. Sooo helpful. Roger
