This is the first beta of a substantial change to our codebase and as much as we have tried to ensure the quality of the code, it should be considered to be not suitable for production use. This means that you should not attempt to use it for commercial purposes or for any other activity that may be adversely affected by the application failing. In addition it is definitely worth noting that files created in Affinity 1.6 may not open in 1.5 so always make a copy of your important documents before opening them in 1.6 to ensure you do not accidentally overwrite them and are unable to open them in your 1.5 version.
 
To use this beta, simply download the file from the link given above and double-click on the file to open the installer. Follow the instructions to install the beta version. The beta sits alongside the Mac App Store version and will not interfere with it.
 
Fixes/Improvements:
First and foremost, the 1.6 version is mainly about: Light UI! (go to Preferences->User Interface) Improved view pan/zoom performance and new pixel-differencing pixel shader Improved performance with large documents New font chooser dropdown with recents, used fonts and favourites New Glyph browser Stroke stabiliser for all pencil and brush tools Align to key items (first/last selected) Text frame vertical alignment options Fit frame to text (double-click on bottom centre handle). Transform panel uses the rotation centre Scale/shear can now be performed about rotation centre Double-click now resets shape handles and rotate/shear handles Many PDF export improvements including vector export of multi-stop gradients Numerous bug fixes and stability improvements

Instead of just setting dark/light and a gamma, wouldnt it be awesome to just set any color you like and use that for the UI.

I have asked this very basic question before but never received an answer. So I am trying again.
 
Is there a way to draw a circular (or rectangular) selection from a centre point? With the shape tool and all transformations this is done in a consistent manner by holding down the Cmd key. With selections the Cmd key is (inconsistently) elsewhere assigned. 

Since most of my selections end up being converted to a mask layer I have a work around by drawing a shape layer and then rasterising to a mask and dragging it in the layers palette to where I need it. But it's irritating and seems rather unnecessary.

Am I missing something embarrassingly obvious here?  :unsure:

First, I have to say that after persisting with Affinity Photo I am now really appreciating it. I think it is the best new program I have used for many years (and I have hundreds of apps on my Mac). The power and quality is brilliant. However I do have some suggested user interface enhancements which I think would make the experience even better...
 
When choosing the crop tool remember the last mode and other settings. 
When I use resize, if I turn off constrain, leave it off in future until I switch it back on.
When saving JPEGs, remember the quality setting.
A keyboard shortcut for save flattened.
In dialogs with text fields put the cursor in the first field so I can just type.
Remember the position of dialogs, eg Clarity.
Use of dialogs a bit inconsistent: sometimes panel, sometimes dialog, sometimes drop-down.
Why do I choose filters from a menu but effects from a palette?
Let me drag an image from a web page onto AF's icon in the Dock to open it.
If I choose a crop to a size, then resize to the same size, the aspect ratio is off slightly.
When creating a new document default to the size of the image on the clipboard.
The use of the shift key for constraining drags is a bit inconsistent.
 
These are generally just to save a few clicks and to avoid errors. No big deal but these little things can make a difference, especially when processing many images in a similar way.

To Start off. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH EXPORTING IMAGES OR THE EXPORT PERSONA AT ALL.
 
 
well to the actual Request:
 
sometimes you worl with affinity on multiple Devices (or you just use the beta) and you dont want to do all the changes everywhere but it's kinda annoying precisely setting this stuff up.
 
and that's not all. maybe you someday have to re-install you computer and set up everything again, not really a funny activity.
 
so my point is you should be able to export your settings so you can import them at any time, anywhere, for any reason.

How do I import raw files and them save them as JPEG?

Please add RUSSIAN language in app, affinity photo and affinity designer !

is there any way to update the Lensfun Library which is used for lenscorrection in the AP Develop Persona?
 
I have a DJI Phantom 4 Professional Drone and would love to be able to do the complete development and creative process in Affinity Photo.

I tried using the python script provided by the library to convert an Adobe LCP file into the lensfun xml but values are different:

Anybody around here who could help me get the develop persona in Affinity Photo to apply lens correction for my Pahntom 4 Pro DNGs?

I'm a graphic designer / web developper. I use Affinity Designer as my 50% software for design, the other 50% is photoshop.
 
There is one reason that affinity is not my 95% and it is the guides management. As a web designer, all my design must follow some kind of grid, in which I move elements. Once my grid is built I dont have to move around guides, i just have to move elements. As much as I love affinity, the fact that when I take a border too close to a guide move the guide (an therefore destroy my grid) is pretty annoying.
 
Another feature that would need to be improved is that when you put an element inside another (the only way I found to make somekind of clipping mask) If I strech the parent objects every child element is streched which is not what I want. I understand the logic but having somekind of clipping mask would be useful).
 
Last thing, and I'm not fan of it but a friend of mine pointed it out, is the lack of some form of isolation mode. Isolation mode in illustrator could be defined as: "lock every element but this one and lock child items in sub group so they act as single items." He said its the feature that failed him (as for myself is the thing I hate in illustrator so take it with a grain of salt)

While testing Affinity Photo for Windows I noticed several minor but rather annoying things. This is the most obvious:
 
I'm used to creating rather wild selections and then feathering them. I usually use the same settings repeatedly (it basically depends on the size of the image) but every time I open the Feather dialog the slider is set to 0 and I have to move it again to the previously used value.
 
I noticed similar thing in Liquify persona (the brush size is always preset to the same value) too and I'm sure there are many other places and settings like this...
 
It would be really useful if the app could "remember" the last used settings because it's very likely the user will use it again. Presetting it automatically would save the user some unnecessary clicking.

Most of the RAW photos I'm editing in develop persona don't need any further changes hence I just want to export them to JPEG
 
However, I have to separately develop them and then export them instead of having an option of straight to export to JPEG
 
Does an export direct to JPEG exist in develop persona? If not, can it be added?

When you've created a new file from the clipboard and then want to save it, currently you're unable to use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+S to save it - you have to use Ctrl+Shift+S for Save As...
 
What I'd like to see is Photo understand that, "Hey! Even though the person behind the keyboard has hit Ctrl+S to Save, I, being the ridiculously cleaver and talented package of software code, AKA Affinity Photo, understand that they're actually trying to Save As...! I will graciously translate their ham-handed keyboard floundering to the correct form and open up the Save As... dialog for them!"

Just bought Designer with the hopes of phasing out of Illustrator. Love what I'm seeing so far, and wanted to add my 2 cents that a Live Trace option looks to be the only thing I've noticed so far that's keeping me from being able to use Designer exclusively.
 
Nothing fancy... I do a lot of black and white cartoon work that gets vector traced in order to bring into file prep for merchandise. I need a tight fidelity so that the hand-drawn roughness of the line quality is preserved. Black and white is necessary, though color options would be great to see.

Hi I have two items I would like to put forward.
 
1)Hilighting of Opened Photo
If you have a lot of photos loaded it is not always easy to see which one it is from the Name / Title bar. Often the grey hilight does not show up very well. Often I have to look ant the X close button to identify which photo is open.
 
Would it be possible to either increase the intensity of the current hilight or make it a different colour.
 
2) Zoom focus.
This may be in place and I have as yet, not found it.
When zooming in and out of a photo would it be possible to have as a default display the % for the photo currently being viewed / worked on.

In Photoshop I can press CMD/ALT + Backspace to fill the current mask selection (or whole layer) with either the background/foreground colour. Currently I haven't been able to find the same in Affinity Designer! Anyone know how I can do this?
