  1. Status: Beta Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer Mac App Store: Not Submitted Download: Download Auto-update: Not available Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of Affinity Designer Beta 1.8.4.2 for macOS. If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.3 version currently available in the store to all customers (though it installs parallel to the release). We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below. Many thanks! Matt Changes Since 1.8.3 - Fix for incorrect rendering of grids in OpenGL past certain zoom levels. - Fix for poor functioning of 'Force Touch' trackpads in pressure-sensitive tools. - Speculative fix for occasional lockups in Pencil Tool. - Added option in preferences to re-enable the old behaviour for deleting objects (we used to previously favour empty selections). - Added ability to show folders as icons in the layers panel. - Added option to always show folders as “small” in the layers panel. - Improved dragging behaviour in the layers panel (make it easier to drag child items around within their container without affecting parenting). - PDF import performance improvements. - Document save performance improvements. - Text performance improvements. - Assorted small bug fixes. - Help improvements. - Localisation improvements. To be notified about all future Mac beta updates, please follow this beta notification thread To be notified when this update comes out of beta and is fully released to all Affinity Designer customers, please follow this release notification thread
  2. @ashf Yes, 'Find & Replace' will be essentially the ability to select with much more specific filtering, then an optional 'Replace' that you can specify attributes to replace them with. This will come later. Initially, a simple ability to select objects with the same fill, geometry, stroke, etc will give the app the majority of the functionality users are requesting
  3. The first version will be very simple but functional - along the lines of Illustrator, as mentioned by MikeW. It will not be a Find + Replace, that will come later. It will be, as stated, a 'Select Same' with a number of variants and easily assignable to keyboard shortcuts for productivity's sake...
  4. I can tell you that 'Select Same' is one of the next things I'm going to be implementing...
  5. Yes, definitely - I'm really sorry, I didn't fully consider the consequences of not including this tool in Designer I will try to add it for next time, but it might be a preferences option to enable it (so that we retain a visual consistency between versions for other users) Thanks! Matt
  6. Which stage are you having problems with? Design Space needs an SVG and the file you give it is going to be the lines to cut - it has no idea what line weight is, it will just cut the lines in the SVG. So if you want something that looks like a thick line cut out, you need to select that line and expand it prior to SVG export. Give me some more information about the problem and I'll try to help...
  7. Surely not!?! That’s crazy good if that’s all vector!!! 😮
  8. I don't write any of the copy for the Windows side of things. Here's what I had to say in the corresponding Mac Beta announcement...
  9. Status: Release candidate Purpose: Features, Improvements, Fixes Requirements: Purchased Affinity Designer for iPad From App Store App Store: Not submitted Download link: Download Hello, We are pleased to announce the immediate availability of the first release candidate of Affinity Designer 1.8.3 for iPad. If this is your first time using a customer beta of an Affinity app, it’s worth noting that the beta will install as a separate app - alongside your store version. They will not interfere with each other at all and you can continue to use the store version for critical work without worry. This beta is an incremental update to the 1.8.2 version recently released to all customers. We recommend that you use this beta in preference to the store version if you are affected by any of the issues listed below. We are moving to release candidate stage early for 1.8.3, due to the discovery of a bug which prevents auto save from working in most circumstances. This bug can cause significant loss of work for users and is classed as extremely high priority. Once 1.8.3 is released, we will be back with 1.8.4 betas relatively quickly. Please note that the download link provided is a Public TestFlight link and will work for anyone as long as they have the App Store version of Designer installed. There is no longer any need to contact us to register for the Beta directly. Thanks, Matt Changes This Version - Fonts are now correctly ordered in the font chooser. - Colinear curve sections are now correctly dealt with during boolean operations. - Fix for geometry operations always being enabled, even when inappropriate. - Improved expand stroke for curves with rapid pressure variation towards their start/end. Changes Since 1.8.2 - Autosave fixes. - Fixed rendering issue with small radius filter effects. - Significant stability improvements for 2GB, 3GB iPads. - Performance improvements for 4GB+ iPads. - PDF export fixes. - New document from clipboard improvements. - Boolean operation improvements (excluding Divide operation). - Assorted small crash fixes. - Numerous small performance improvements.

Matt Changes This Build - Fix for alignment not being available with a single selection. - Fix for collinear curve segments causing boolean operations to fail. - Fix for exiting pixel preview mode when Guides are toggled on/off. - Fix for expand stroke applied to objects with sharply varying pressure profiles near their start/end. Changes Since 1.8.2 - Fix for boolean ops acting differently on larger objects by accident. - Fix for deleting the last curve handle (and hence deleting the object) causing selection to be lost. - Additional PDF export fix (related to converting colour profiles in exported images). - Fix for autosaves not working correctly when opening and editing existing documents. - Fix for focus issues with the Colour Studio when tabbing between text fields with a selected object. - Improved boolean geometry results (not Divide). - Many PDF export fixes and improvements. - Fix for some selection-related problems while trying to xor selections.
  11. Ahh.... separated mode! I see... I’ll ask for this to be looked into!!!
  12. Select your line, go to Layer -> Expand Stroke and you’ll get an object that is the outline of your stroked line. Now use that to subtract from the other shapes
  13. The first line (unlike all the other lines) was input with the Vector Brush Tool and it has a style applied to it that means it will automatically get expanded to outlines on the way out of Designer - exactly like I said above, you need to do that to all your lines *manually* to make sure you get the output you want. You also need to make sure you don't occlude part of a path with another 'background' colour path, because it will just cut both things - use the geometry operations to actually remove those parts of the paths from within Designer itself. If you inspect my file you should hopefully see what I'm referring to?
  14. I can't run Design Space at the moment as I can't remember my login (*sigh*) but I think this should get you the output you were after. Use the Node Tool to look at my file vs your original to see what I'm talking about... one is the curve path, the other is the expanded outline of that path - and it's that that you want the Cricut to cut! massnurseEdited.afdesign massnurseEdited.svg
  15. Hi Tlmanty, Cricut Design Space is a funny thing... Firstly remember that your Cricut cuts outlines. So if you pass it a line, it will cut the line itself, not the thick stroked thing you're seeing on the screen, just the centreline. If you want to cut the stroked thing you're seeing on the screen, you need to select the object, choose Layer -> Expand Stroke. You'll now be left with an outline that looks like the thick line you could see on the screen. Next, remember that the Cricut won't do anything magical with lighter areas covering darker ones - it cuts stuff, then cuts more stuff. If you want to have an area not cut out, you have to make sure your object was cut to the right shape in the first place. Basically, you need to expand stroke on all your lines, then subtract the white object from the black objects to make an outline which is actually the right input for the cutter I don't know if that makes sense? Matt
  16. @VectorVonDoom - give it a try in the 1.8.3.1 Beta - *hopefully* that should be working as expected now!

  18. Hi! I'm assuming you mean 10.13.6? Could I ask you to try to create a new user on your machine and then try running the app while logged in as this new user? (it's fast and easy on macOS to try this) Does it still exhibit the same problem? If so, I can ask for it to be looked into - but we're not allowed to go back to work at the moment, and I have a horrible suspicion that our development mule that has all the old OS versions on it is still locked up there! Thanks in advance, Matt

  20. Yes, it was in the build yesterday. I'll find out why that particular case is acting differently - it's very odd... If you pressed the delete after flicking to the Move Tool it works as expected, so it's obviously just something to do with the delete node command that's issued by the Node Tool. Sorry about that... I'll get there, lol!
