The lock screen on Windows is triggered by pressing "Windows+L".
I doubt that that is the reason why it does not work.
Anyway, I changed it to "Shift+Backspace" and it works. So weird.

Here it is.

 

This is working for me, please see this video of what I did:
At 17 seconds I pressed Alt+Backspace and you can see it fills the pixel layer. If this still is not working for you, you might want to reset the app. I would recommend doing this safely as we can restore and potential lose customisations. Please follow these steps:
On your keyboard, press the Windows key + R In the RUN box type %appdata% and click OK Now go to Affinity\Photo and rename the 1.0 folder to 1.1 Now restart the app and reassign the shortcut and see if it works! Note - the screen recording was done in the beta because that's just the second app that I tried it in. It works in the current retail 1.8.5.703. Fill Primary Colour.mp4

This is a simple feature that I thought was already in Photo by default. It's very important and it's missing.
I would like to be able to drag a marquee selection from the centre (circular, rectangular...), not just the corner. A shortcut would be nice, like in Photoshop (ALT + DRAG, ALT + SHIFT + DRAG for constraining proportions and so forth).
While we are here I would also suggest the option for moving the selection temporarily while creating it (again in Photoshop would be by holding the Space Bar, moving the selection and then releasing the spacebar and carry on the selection creation).

Same on my side (Win10), Backspace seems not to be possible.

@DWright Is that by design or an oversight? IOW can we expect it down the road? I brought it up years ago with no definitive answer.
Edit: and while I have your eyeballs.... Same question for the absence of an antialias tick box for the Flood Select tool. 
(In some (certainly not all) circumstances one can go into refine and blur a touch, but that's a whole lot to do instead of one little checkbox)

Awesome! The add selection works. Though I think it's counterintuitive and I will change it if possible.
 
Regarding the shortcut yes, it's definitely a bug then, otherwise how would you explain the other shortcuts containing the Backspace (like inpaint)?

Hello @MannaTheBerserk and welcome to the forum.
1. The modifier to add to a selection is unusual, and takes a bit of practice!
Hold the left mouse, then hold the right mouse, then drag (the mouse cursor will change to show a + if you did it right)
Note also that the status bar will always tell you the modifiers that apply to your current situation.
Alternatively you can change the mode to Add in the context toolbar.
2. I can confirm that Backspace (even with a modifier) is not accepted as a shortcut - could be a bug?
