GryphonArt reacted to loukash in How to save my own Pdf preset?
For the record, I've chosen the latter option. This very issue being one of the main reasons because I have yet to rebuild my custom PDF export settings from InDesign CS5.5.

GryphonArt reacted to Dave Dennis in Affinity Publisher 1.9 Mac crashes when trying to export
Immediately after updating to Aff. Publisher 1.9 it refuses to open the export dialogue and crashes (program shuts down completely) when I choose File -> Export. All very time wasting and such a headache! I need to send PDFs to printer!!
    iMac 21.5" (late 2015) quad-core intel i5, 16gb ram, Iris pro 6200 graphics.
    Things I've tried:
I have updated to latest Big Sur (11.2) and any other updates. This problem began BEFORE updating to Big Sur, and the system update is part of my attempts to solve the issue with Publisher. If I create a new document from a template it opens the export dialogue okay and saves to PDF no problem. Opening a previously existing document won't export. Turned off hardware acceleration and OpenGL. SESL Business cards 2021-02.afpub

    Hi alex96gonzalez,
    Thanks for the file.
I wasn't able to get anything to subtract at first and as  @dutchshader posted, this is down to the Fill Mode.  If you select the main face and click Layer>Fill Mode>Alternate (Even-Odd) and then select and subtract, it will work as expected

GryphonArt reacted to thadeusz in Working with Pantone colors - palette annoyance
Not really a bug, but more of an annoyance: If you know your Pantone color already, how would you find the right number in the palette? There is no way to put in a number, colors are in a chaotic order. Not perfect. Of course I could select just any color and name it as I wish. Please have a second look at the palette. It would be also quite handy that a color takes it's name from the selected Pantone color. At the moment I have to name it manually.
More of a major problem is that I have no way to find out, how colors really overprint. There is no separation previews, where I can see if an element has the right color separation  and is overprinted as I wish. I don't know how you work, but this is needed for everyday print production. Only in CMYK/RGB work I could imagine to not needing it nowadays. But with spot colors?

Thank you - that helped me - Undo was suddenly set to "0" in the preferences on MacPro with MacOS Mojave.

I think if you read the rest of the forum you'll see why it's essential to many people. You don't need to understand it or need it yourself, just accept that a lot of people require it.
I work at a printing company and often need to be a lot more precise in measuring things. Percentage comes into play there. If I place one image and then manually have to make it smaller, then place a second image that needs to be scaled down the same amount, how can I tell by how much the first image was scaled down? With InDesign, I would select both placed images and then change the percentage to 25% (for example).
Percentage also comes into play when I am creating different sized versions of the same file (say, different sized posters), so I can make sure in the new size that all elements are scaled properly. There are of course work arounds in Publisher but it takes more time and as posted above, sometimes requires doing the math manually.
fde101 above says "percentage of what?" - this would be a percentage of the current size. So if a box is 2x2 and you choose to scale by 200%, then the box increases to 4x4. Now the 4x4 size is considered 100% for that object. Photos are the same except dpi is involved.

+1 for Bleed Preview, bleed export for tiff and other image formats.
I'm currently working on a print project, which is the first larger one in designer. And I have to say that the lack of bleed is making some exports more difficult than is needed.
So please add non-pdf bleed exports to designer.
I've used freehand, illustrator and inkscape which all were able to do this. I understand that AD uses artboards so it not a one to one thing. However perhaps a per art board tick could work. I won't pretend to understand the difficulty to make it work properly. But I do know that this is important even when you come out with the publisher app. Since it would be great to work like I used to in freehand, which had enough publish tool to support small - med projects ... then for bigger one you wold use scribes, quark or indesign.
I'm looking forward to your next update of designer very much and hope it includes lots of the little needed features and bug fix.
    Cheers

    Hello,
I need this function as well. How can we prepare documents for printing without viewing our bleeds? Please help us move forward Adobe and use Affinity for printing. Thanks!

Thank you for your reply MEB!

The clipping path was created with Photoshop.

And I would like to open the PSD file with Affinity Photo. (see also my more detailed description at the top of this thread)

    Hi MEB

Thank you for your fast reply.

It's a pity that this is not possible without Photoshop. Because if I have to use Photoshop for this, then I can stay using Photoshop.
My idea was to move from Photoshop to Affinity Photo.

I think the workflow with clipping paths is very common for publishers of brochures, flyers, catalogs...

So when can we expect this feature in Affinity Photo?

    Hi silvioch,
Yes, it's a common workflow and more and more users have been requesting it.
I've filled a request improvement for this some time ago but it's up to the dev team to decide if/when implement it, so there's no eta but i believe we will end up supporting it.
Just give the dev teams some time  ;)

Just in case you aren't aware, there's also a photo editing app coming as beta before the end of this year called Affinity Photo. You can learn more about the Affinity software suite here.

After trying the demo... congratulations!, but...
For those who work professionally, we need essentials such as: Pantone (comming soon) and more options for text columns...   Have you thought about it?   How do I say? More ... Freehand  ;)

    Hi Carole,

When you make a document, we offer a number of settings - one of them is the colour model. Choose CMYK for a CMYK document - all operations are always done end-to-end in CMYK space, properly colour managed and output to your printer or PDF as CMYK data. You can also output as CMYK TIFF and CMYK EPS, I think.

We don't support multiple pages yet, but we will do - hopefully quite soon.

AI can open PDF files or EPS, so just go to File->Export in Affinity Designer and choose either of those options. If you have any problems then it's worth looking at the latest beta version of Affinity Designer as it has improvements in these areas.

If you hit Cmd+R you'll toggle the visibility of the rulers. I don't know what you mean by 'Cut content tool'? Text on a path has been requested previously and will arrive in the not-too-distant future.

Any more questions, just let us know! :)

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hey GryphonArt,

    I can't answer all questions, but I maybe able to answer a few;

Can it converted or be pasted into an Ai File?
    - You can If you have both programs open, select the layer and its a simple copy and paste over to your Illustrator artboard,

Can it be exported as an eps file for colour seperation?
    - If you select the Export Persona on the Persona Tabs, on the right you will have your export options, and select a preset from there, or
    - File, export, the EPS option should be third from the right I think, the rest of the export is as the usual save.

    Hope this helps.
