So I was messing about with Affinity Designer and I experimented with some line/pressure work and a style I haven't used before in this program.  I'm not sure how I feel about it!  All that's to say, critiques are welcome here...

I've seen some pretty cool pen work around the forums lately and thought I'd give it a shot myself, especially since normally I play with converting shapes.   :-)  This was fun though!

First thought: Lilo and Stitch, which is crazy because I've only seen the movie once.  :-)  Nice artwork there!

I am leaving Photoshop after having been a user and aficionado of the software for many many years.

What has turned me and others against Photoshop is their unpopular new pricing mechanism that they now employ (renting the software monthly). It is no doubt acceptable to some but not everyone and especially those that do not use Photoshop in a business environment (I am retired) or on a daily basis. Also, it has become increasingly difficult to contact the company for assistance.

Since retirement, Photoshop has been gifted to me by my family as a 'present' and to ask someone to give me a gift that requires a never ending monthly commitment is not suitable in my situation.

I like the look of this new software and was wondering if the pricing of this product is planned to follow the Photoshop model at some later stage - that is, paying a monthly fee? If so, I will discontinue to use this software and look elsewhere.

Anyone else not happy with Photoshops pricing model?

I've noticed this as well. It's good to know why it's happening. I assume because it's a antialias preview on screen that when printed it won't be affected or noticed...?

This little guy is Marvin, I stumbled upon him whilst finishing of a Marmite themed bit of artwork yesterday.
Played with him and developed his character a lot more today, I have to say I really like him....and I may well adopt him to do more.

Here's another quickie with AP (and Paolo's brushes) and some other comment about the app (from a painter perspective)

I love a lot of things but just to name a few:
    1) Stock panel for searching quick references it's pure genius
    2) Liquify is faaaaaaaaast as hell
    3) realtime blend layer system it's a dream

I'm fighting hard with this major issues:

    1) Brush resizing delay (draggin' pen or mouse)
    2) Brush size tooltips are a nightmare (almost unusable)
    3) Eyedropper inconsistency (miss 40% of the picks)
    4) Brushes become laggy and slow very quickly (after adding a texture and a couple of tip)

:)  Ok, I know maybe aren't really serious stuff for a photographer workflow but as a wrote, from a painter perspective are things to fix as soon as possible.

    I love you all  :D

Hi there, here's a lil doodle I did in my first approach to AP.

I'v got some really good impression about the environment, the tools and the the general feeling of the app.
There's a lot of things I really love and some annoying things here and there and of course some bugs but...wow you guys got a new fan here!

I will post my concerns and bugs in the proper section, so see you around here :)

could somebody give me a hint how to merge photos (two or more) into one panorama picture?

ronnyb, yes I would most likely try that route next time. I  didn't realize that I was going to go that far with it... I started out thinking I would only do a few fur strokes here and there and before I knew it I was liking the look and I was past the point of no return.   ;)  If I ever try this type of thing again, I'll experiment with either a vector brush or maybe some actual painting...

I understand this is Beta software and hence still in a QA phase. I don't expect it to work completely perfectly yet and I think you folks are very smart to have issued this Beta and asked for comments.

But I wanted to drop a line and tell you all how impressed I am with what is available so far and to let you know that people like me are pleased, even though there are still a lot of bugs. I am really looking forward to the released product.

    Great work so far.

Don't listen to this fellow:. maybe most people don't use all of the features of PS but different people use different obscure but valuable features. Professional software has to allow for a big toolbox. If you want lightweight software, there are several freeware alternatives available. I want Affinity to have the horsepower to beat Adobe with a full set of professional features.

I've been playing with Affinity Photo for about 45 minutes and I'm already in Love!
I'm going to list out the reasons in this thread, starting with the canvas speed.
It is so buttery smooth, it's ridiculous and delicious!

Honestly, Andy, I can't pretend to speak for the rest of the people who are now Affinity users...but, for one, find the above statement refreshing in that you and Serif have enough integrity to make the aforementioned statement and apologize. I've been around long enough to remember the '90's and how a certain Adobe rival in layout and publishing used to respond to their user base with boldly unapologetic chants of "just buy the next version" when questioned for workarounds and/or troubleshooting techniques. The big red "A" got into it with Apple when they released CS5/5.5 and it crashed on Lion and Mountain Lion. They ultimately offered fixes but nobody actually apologized.

Redmond gets away with it all of the time.

I'd put up my input about the raw files from my cameras to help you guys build a better product, not to browbeat you. It's. A. BETA. Last time I looked, that is the purpose of beta testing. To paraphrase Henry Cabot Henhouse III, we knew the job was dangerous when we took it. We're just grateful that you guys came out with Designer and Photo (excuse me, a little drool spilled out of the corner of my mouth in anticipation of Publisher) when we needed you to...right after the big red "A" abandoned us and decided to put a gun to our heads in the name of corporate greed.

    Wow. You apologized.

The mere fact of your willingness to apologize makes me realize one thing...as long as you guys are making the software, I'll be buying/supporting/using it and urging as many others to take a look at your offerings as much as possible. There would be only one thing we would ask in return.

Never sell to anyone who will not maintain the integrity you have shown us today. And ESPECIALLY NOT to them. And if you have to ask who "they" are, I've mentioned them at least three times in this posting.

"Keep doing it to it." My cameras and I are right here waiting with $50.00.

Tim Cook should be proud. Right now, the Affinity brand is one of the only things keeping me from going completely over to the dark side.

Thank YOU wholeheartedly for your time and immense effort. Now, where'd I leave that 2006 MacBook Pro...

I'm sure the devs are working on it, but I am excited about Photo Beta and I was hoping there would be a "Share Artwork Photo Beta" specific topic in the forum.  :-)  It makes sense to me to keep the Artwork from different programs separate, at least until the full designer package is available and certain projects combine all three apps.

    Thanks for your work guys!

Also, my first "piece" made with Affinity Photo, messing with brushes and selection tools. The wooden sculptures are from Africa and Peru respectively.
