  1. To my knowledge there is no way to open a native APub file in InDesign. You can place a PDF that was created in APub in an InDesign document of the same size but you cannot edit the content of the placed PDF (just tried in CS6). You could save this InDesign document in its .indd format and give it away but I doubt that would be accepted I think the best way would be to work in InDesign for your studies and to use APub for everything else. Often we have to use certain tools that are given to us in a certain situation. And it is also good to know different tools. d.
  2. While I do not tend to comment on splash screens, this time I do I appreciate that there is no more transparent artwork around. It looks less fuzzy. The startup is really fast and install went (obviously) without a problem. d.
  3. I really hope that this is working for you, before ... I personally find your suggestions for guides, especially the relative ones, logical and desireable, too. There is a difference between the colour picker tool (left) and the colour picker in the colour palette. I am not on my APub computer. With one of these you can sample from outside the APub window, with the other not (at least I think to remember). You could also copy the object with the desired colour, paste in the other document, sample from there and delete the object afterwards. d.
  4. Hello @mbrakes, I can see the advantage of a 'guides template system' if one can call it that way. One proof that Serif is thinking in that direction is the introduction of 'Designer now supports custom document presets' with the beta of version 1.7. And also the improvements with guides and grid even though nothing is a solution to your request What I do is to keep a couple of guide like pages in the Assets. E.g. I have a (transparent) rectangle at the size of A4 that contains a couple of dashed lines (similar to guides). They are all grouped together and were as a whole saved as an asset with an appropriate name. Now, when I'm working on an A4 page I simply drag this asset from the panel in and place it. It helps to lock it. Since you seem to work with a limited set of guidelines this could be a workaround that to me seems to be very fast. The only difference is that it is not a true guide template. d.
  5. Many thanks for taking time to explain. I was on a completely different track and did not think of a unicode entity d.
  6. Hi @jlhopes, sorry, I was not aware that you are on a Mac. Double clicking on the image works the same way on Windows, so that should do I do not know, if there is a modifier key similar to CTRL+click on Windows. One of the other Mac afficionados here in the forum may help. Other than 'Lock Children' you also should look at the picture frame's properties (it's a button almost at the left end of the toolbar where 'Lock Children' is located. The button is next to 'Replace image'. If you enable 'Lock Children' and set the picture frame's property to 'None' you can scale the picture frame withouth changing the image at all. Is this what you are looking for? Cheers, d.
  7. Hi @Wolfie2, I do not understand how you come to post this. Serif's staff is all over the place (= forum) posting help and instructions. They even pointed you on how to get the best of assistance by pointing you to the right forum. This, of course, must be very frustrating, I am with you there. Here I installed on a Win 10 64 bit PC without a problem. It seems the current beta is having some problems. I am sure the team at Serif will sort out those problems and it will eventually work on your computer as well. Best regards, d.
  8. Hi @jlhopes CTRL+click on the image. This selects the image and you can move and resize it to your liking. Click on the picture frame. On the toolbar at the far right end you see a checkbox called 'Lock Children'. Enable it. Now you can resize the picture frame without changing the size of the image. Just because you have learned how to do it in InDesign does not neccessarily make it intuitive. You just know how to do it. In APub we all have to learn some things new. Me too d.
  9. I believe this has nothing to do with the number of people working on APub. APub is already part of the 1.7.xxx version of the software while AD and APh are still at their 1.6.xxx version. It is very likely that this is the reason why it is not possible to copy anything between the apps. I am guessing here and someone from Serif has to confirm this. d.
  10. @StuartRc, I am very impressed (and inspired ) Thank You! d.
  11. This seems to be a pretty clever way of doing it. Another way would be to place the images in the document and then keep them in the assets studio at hand. Either way, even the OP's method, needs a little preparation time. d.
  12. Hello @Panejo, wellcome to the forum. I can replicate this. I would think this is a bug but we have to wait and see what the moderators are saying. d.
  13. Try the Transform Panel. It shows the dimensions of anything that is selected and you can change dimensions, too. You can even do mathematical calculations there (e.g. type after the value for the width *2 and hit enter. This doubles the width of the object. d.
  14. You could have some assets with sample text / filler text and drag them in. Its not the same but already available d.
  15. This certainly is a lame work around but better than nothing as long as there is now word count in APub: For those who think that there is no way to get a word count at all, you always can mark the text in question with CTRL+A, copy it to clipboard and paste it into a simple text editor that has word count. This, of course, is not practical while entering text and aiming a certain text length. But in a situation where you are happy with the text and want to know it's length this should do. Apart from that I am sure Serif will come up at some point with a feature like this d.
  16. Update went without a problem here. Can anyone explain what 'Thin Space handling' is? Thanks (for the update and any explanation), d.
  17. One way would be to assign the entire text the same paragraph style. Then you can change the paragraph style and the font will change accordingly in the entire document. This assumes that there are no different styles like headings. d.
  18. Sorry to hear that this doesn't work. Then perhaps it's related to the bug mentioned by Chris_K above. Good luck, d.
  19. Did you try to do a 'Save as...' to save it with a different name? This worked for me in such situations. d.
  20. I concur with @walt.farrell, there is nothing like this at the moment. But I also cannot imagine what the use of this function would be. d.
  21. Then, I'm sure you know what a high resolution display looks like Now I understand. On my Windows it seems a bit the same. I keep them at large. There could be some more options at some time in the future, but as you say yourself 'this is really a minor issue in the grand scheme of things.' d.
  22. Hello @daibhidh, welcome to the forum. I find this idea very interesting. I assume this is rather a feature that will (if at all) arrive in Affinity Publisher because that one is targeted at print layout while Affinity Designer is more targeted at illustration and design. If you don't know there is a public beta version of Affinity Publisher over there to test and participate in bug hunting d.
  23. I assume this is very closely related to the display's resolution. I have to use the large thumbnails on a high resolution display, otherwise I couldn't recognise not much. d.
  24. Hi @Bernie38, I am not quite sure if I correctly understand what you mean by linked images. But if you want to place the same image in several places of the document an have to look it the same everywhere you should look into Symbols (View > Studio > Symbols). Symbols are 'linked objects'. If you edit one of them all other instances look the same. There is already a section in the help file if you search for 'Symbols'. Cheers, d.
  25. Hi @Old Bruce, try the ESC-key. It makes the current text box active but stays with the text tool selected. This gives you the option to draw another text box. I have trained myself (and got used to it) to hit ESC and then V. This (sort of) quickly switches to the Move Tool. (I see already fellow forumsters posting 'but this is two keystrokes ... this is just too much typing' ) d. + another smiley to make sure that I am not seriously complaining about other forumsters feature requests. We're here to collect request
