Thank you, I was wondering what you meant, and I figured it out. Now it all makes sense, including the Canva takeover. I got to see the real target audience, and a de facto humiliation of this Ash. It's been a long time since I've seen something so cringe-worthy, so I suppose I don't need to say that it will quite effectively keep serious people away while attracting those with a skateboard. https://www.academia.edu/44968515/The_infantilization_of_Western_culture I need to provide an update on my work task tomorrow. I recommend that I no longer evaluate further in the direction of Affinity. We are obligated, every few years, to assess the market for alternatives to ensure we don’t have software overkill for small and medium-sized tasks, but this is not an alternative - at least not in my assessment. There were elements that piqued my curiosity with the feature-rich iPad versions, to the extent that I even spent personal time on this task. However, the platform is behind on technology, usability, bug fixes, features, and the company approach and attitude toward customers. Adding the Canvas presentation to the mix, I certainly cannot recommend these products to serious customers. Thank you for now. At least I got paid for most of my brief time with Affinity. I suggested a few missing features; I hope they arrive and benefit others. We need them today and also needed them last year, so... I bid you farewell -

I can only conclude that if we are identifying all these problems today, not a single ounce of hope can be invested in anything being fixed within a reasonable time frame - or at all. Serif and Canva could hardly offer their competitors a bigger gift than this wealth of flaws and uncertainty, almost the certainty that these issues are inherent to their products. It is futile to try to appeal to professional customers or others with professional needs with products so riddled with errors. “The ship is leaking today; but it will still be leaking tomorrow.” Years ago, I could not have imagined a future world so lacking in software we can truly utilize and enjoy, but I am speechless having seen many companies effectively take themselves out of the game. Adobe gets much of the blame here for everything bad, but they cannot be held responsible for the mistakes, judgment, and customer handling of their competitors. -

When editing text on an external screen - non-duplicated - using the latest iPadOS (version 18 newest) and 2.6 build 2900 on an iPad Pro, the controls for inserting breaks and soft hyphens from the small floating keyboard control are utterly unusable. Typically, I can initially activate the bar for inserting these elements from the small floating control. However, I cannot close it again. On the iPad screen, I see ABC and copy-paste-cut icons in the bar itself, but these are absent on the external screen. When I move Publisher to the iPad screen, these controls become usable, and I can close the “Insert Fields” bar. However, when I close it and move Publisher back to the external screen, things become worse. From this point, the text control bar is guaranteed to be unusable, if it’s even visible at all. Eventually, I am unable to type anything in the text frame until I press an icon at the bottom of the screen resembling a keyboard. This icon then displays the “Insert Fields” bar in an enlarged format, which I cannot close. In summary, it seems clear that compatibility with iPadOS 18 is severely lacking, and version 2.6 cannot be released with such significant bugs and flaws.

To be completely honest, and I owe that to Serif and others like us who evaluate, these issues become glaringly obvious during regular tasks and testing. I’ve gone through many frustrations, irritations, and, slowly but surely, moments of outright anger. My testing of Publisher keeps hitting walls. Clear deficiencies that simply must be addressed ASAP with proper updates. Gaps that need to be filled. This week’s test of Publisher on an iPad Pro connected to an external display, however, gives the impression that Serif hasn’t truly worked with their own products. With Publisher on an external display (not mirrored), it simply cannot be used seriously. Constant double-updating of text while typing, which is unsettling, icons that can’t be interacted with using a mouse on the external screen, and the field insertion bar is utterly useless. Serif, don’t spend just 2 minutes testing - try 15 or 30 minutes with a moderately ambitious document, and your code will lose control over itself and iPadOS’s text input controls. In short, unusable. Close, but so far off due to these shortcomings that it’s not functional. Publisher doesn’t look like an attempt to cater to small needs, so why there hasn’t been a serious effort to ensure it works for users with greater demands is beyond me. What I can say for certain is that Canva - if they intend to target users like us who want to use their products for the serious applications they advertise them as tools for - needs to scale up significantly with more developers, business analysts, and much more to stabilize and expand. And you cannot expand the products further in their current state without ensuring the foundation is solid. It seems like this is exactly what Serif has stubbornly done: a miscalculation of significant proportions. This is where Canva must step in to restructure the company and its practices significantly if these products are to be taken seriously by demanding customers. And no, neither I nor my employer will report trivialities as if we were unpaid labor. That’s just a direct indication of a business model that, in every way, has grown beyond Serif’s control. It’s strange to witness a company seemingly hitting a self-made wall two-thirds of the way to its goal. Ultimately, however, this is not the customers’ problem. Especially not potential customers who need to decide whether to invest - or politely decline. -

I can see that I’m also dealing with older bugs and shortcomings, and this provides no credibility or confidence when assessing whether to invest in Affinity for serious use. I am speechless at some of these longstanding issues. This reflects poor customer care and a reliance on the hope of acquiring new customers instead of retaining existing ones. I wonder how many have evaluated Affinity and, like us, are deeply skeptical about its long-term value and future deliverables. It feels like mosquito bites and heartburn that just won’t go away. -
Serif, this issue has just escalated in consequence, as customers like me who work with Publisher on an external screen and an iPad Pro (without screen mirroring) are unable to use the elements mentioned above on the external screen. I have to move the window back down to the iPad to perform these actions—and then back up again. A serious flaw.

I simply recommend that someone here focus on the genre and the obvious issues with the products rather than their internet-based pastimes. You cannot impose order in a forum with a few main topics each containing thousands of posts, as is the case here. However, customers can push their observations and considerations into the minds of Serif and Canva, and that is ultimately a matter between the customer and the supplier. Serif just needs to read each topic diligently. What is absolutely crucial to emphasize is that your personal feelings about this are over 100% irrelevant, and the constant noise from the ever-willing volunteer helpers is incredibly disruptive here. I look forward to a future AI-driven feature where I can type, “What do active and skilled users of the product, who actually have valuable contributions, say?” Let’s once again acknowledge that the verbose post at the top encapsulated nothing but familiar and valid points and observations, requiring more attention and focus than a post on X.com. It addresses a reality that could mean there is no Affinity at all in 5-10 years given the market conditions. If that happens, it won’t be @Amotilos ’ fault.

Zoom Tool via (Spacebar + Control) Issue/Bug
Evaluation complete. replied to reefsar's topic in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Preferences -> Tool -> Use mouse wheel to zoom I don't use anything else, and once it's in muscle memory, it's clearly the fastest and most intuitive way for me to work. I should mention that I've never really felt the need to scroll horizontally or vertically with the scroll wheel, which you lose the ability to do with the mouse scroll wheel when using this setting, as far as I know. -

Not too long for an experienced reader like me; I read it all. Before you rush to ritualistically criticize the style or critique the critique itself, here is the feedback – summarized and concretized – as any mature company would welcome with respect for customers taking the time to provide valuable input. I don’t see much here I can directly disagree with; it aligns closely with what I’ve seen others request as well. Here is a concise list of the critical feedback points translated into clear observations and suggestions: Photo Management Integration: Affinity Photo should manage photos natively by cataloging, organizing, and safeguarding them, akin to Apple Photos, including seamless device connection (e.g., memory cards, cameras, wireless devices). Interface Design: Improve readability and usability, particularly on smaller screens or bright environments, by refining contrast and simplifying icon designs. Personas Redesign: Replace the multi-persona workflow with a seamless, user-driven interface that follows a natural progression from photo ingestion to export without forcing module transitions. RAW Development Improvements: Enhance the RAW editor with modern features, including labeled tone curves, histograms with values, and support for advanced color spaces (e.g., beyond sRGB). Print Color Management: Address limitations in color space handling to support modern high-gamut printers and ensure accurate print previews. Perspective Correction: Simplify perspective tools to use a straight rectangular grid for alignment instead of displaying the flawed photo’s grid. High-Pass Sharpening Simplification: Reduce unnecessary settings in sharpening tools, offering straightforward options like "linear light" directly. Batch Editing Workflow: Introduce an efficient and predictable way to batch apply settings or adjustments to multiple images. Real-Time Wireless Integration: Enable real-time image transfer from modern cameras and devices directly into Affinity Photo. Dialogues and Confirmation Prompts: Streamline dialogues by reducing redundant prompts, especially for workflows involving multiple open images. Brush System Simplification: Refine brush terminology and functionality into a single versatile tool that integrates seamlessly with modern input methods (e.g., trackpads, Apple Pencil). Scopes and Calibration: Improve the size, clarity, and functionality of histograms and scopes, and introduce calibration tools for color workflows. General Tool Refinements: Review tool usability and ensure they meet the needs of both beginners and professionals without unnecessary complexity or obscure logic. A huge thank you, @Amotilos, for taking the time to provide feedback to Serif. 🛠️

He is absolutely right; it is common and fair practice to provide access to information about the consequences of an update via a single click. Before upgrading. Moreover, it is kind of this type of hidden information that the EU’s cookie legislation requires to be just one click away in compliant cookie banners before users decide yes or no. This strongly implies that it is considered poor practice for customers to have to dig through layers of junk to find information about the consequences of accepting whatever. This is particularly important because users cannot simply ignore this intrusive prompt. It is nudging at its worst. There is a clear need for a “What’s New” button. It will appear anyway with new releases after upgrading, so make it available right from the start instead.

I am now testing the Books feature, and once again, importing documents is a nightmarish nightmare without style mapping during import. And again, the lack of a Story Editor is absolutely catastrophic. Serif, you must not assume that your customers have extra hours in their day beyond the 24, or that they wish to spend those hours on manual work, even if they had them. This is serious.

I unfortunately find it to be quite a significant issue in practice that "Paste Without Formatting" is not included in the right-click menu, and that as a user, you also have to remap the shortcut to something other than the default shortcut, which is nearly impossible to remember and execute. I cannot comprehend who decided on this shortcut and why for such a commonly used function. This mistake has been around long enough for customers. Even this forum handles the scenario better. I very often paste content from external sources, and every time, out of habit, I right-click because that’s what I can do in almost every other program and have done for many years. It’s a clear omission, and even though it’s a small detail, it has a significant negative impact.
