cosinus got a reaction from jannisl in Vertical Centering Tool
Hi MEB. I'm looking forward to the possibility of vertically aligning text in a frame. In fact, I miss this feature quite a bit. As for your answer above: I haven't found any mention or roadmap for Affinity Publisher in the news section of the forum. Is a Publisher app from Affinity still planned? If yes, when? Anyway, I hope that a vertical text alignment feature will soon make it into Affinity Designer.
(BTW Thanks for all the great improvements of version 1.5!)

Please push the perspective tool at the top of your list. I have a project right now and my work would have been much easier if this feature was in AD but instead I need to redo a drawing for every time that I need to put it in a different perspective. This tool is essential, I feel that it should have been a pioneer feature. Right now, this is taking away the thunder of AD for me.

Agree with Newbie above. I love Affinity Designer, but really really need the distort/perspective tool.

We need Distortion and Warp! It's a MUST! We only have SKEW already... please! :'(

    Hi cosinus,
There's no roadmap available for Publisher because it wasn't released yet (it's not even available as a Public Beta).
Yes, we do intend to launch Affinity Publisher and made it available as a Public Beta before that but we are still a few months away from this. The dev team has been quite busy with Designer and Photo improvements/bug fixes.

I have used CorelDraw and more recently DrawPlus to create historic maps and railway vehicle illustrations to scale on a W10 desktop system.  I like what I have seen so far in Affinity Designer and impressed by its speed in comparison.  However, major show stopper for me is lack of any means to set a drawing scale!  Without this, I can't really carry on with my beta testing.  Can this be fixed anytime soon?

For those of us who might use designer for technical illustration, various scaling options would be useful:

    1. Set document scale — so that inches or points can be converted different dimensions. One can imagine a carpentry project where 1 inch = 2 ft for example. In my case here would be the most convenient workflow: open a raster image of a map with a scale bar, drag the mouse along the scale bar (or any feature of known length) and then type in the distance represented on the map (e.g., 100 m, 10 km, etc.). The scale would be set automatically.

[as an aside, length and area calculations, in the scale/using the units specified would be nice]

    2. Scale object — I mentioned this briefly in a post on a different topic but thought it would be more useful in a dedicated post on scaling. One should be able to specify the change in size (or shape) of an object in a dialog box where you specify the horizontal and vertical scaling factors (either proportional or non-proportional) by either percent or by entering a ratio.

    3. Set document origin — this is less important to me, but still useful. The ability to place the (0,0) at any point within the document. Also the ability to specify geographic/engineering coordinates (positive to the right and positive up) or the usual screen coordinates (positive to the right and positive down). One can likewise imagine two different types of rotation: counterclockwise positive from the right (engineering convention) or clockwise from the top (compass convention)

Thanks for the suggestion. Select Similar is on our roadmap to do, and saving selections is something Photo users want so it should be added to Designer too in due course.

In the Vector Persona, it would be REALLY useful to have a Select > Same Object Fill, Select > Same Object Stroke, etc (see attached image for reference) as well as a way to Save and Load selections....

cosinus got a reaction from JDW in Polygonal Lasso Tool
I'd like to support the request of JDW. Selecting a distorted rectangular area is very easy with a polygonial lasso tool that just lets you click the corners (as in Photoshop). Holding the shift button with the freehand selection tool of Photo only seems to work partially (not all 4 side are straight lines), and it is not as quick and convenient. Thanks!

I cannot get the SHIFT key to trigger Straight Line functionality as you describe.  I am using Affinity Photo 1.3.4.

But even if that's a bug and you fix it, the fact remains that Photoshop's Polygonal Lasso Tool (PLT) works differently from AP's Free Hand Selection Tool (FST).  With the PLT, you click multiple times to slowly create your selection.  Even if you did have the means to create straight lines with the FST, the fact remains the FST does not use a "Path Tool" style means of selection.  Therefore, it would be nice to see a true PST equivalent in AP.

    Thanks.
