  1. @Aammppaa Well, this is great! I can't quite get my head around symbols, and what properties of a frame are linked or unlinked between master and page when I make an edit on a page or on master... but i'm sure I'll figure it out eventually. Thanks for the demo!!
  2. I did the same thing. I can't find a way to reset view rotation on a document, but you can get around this with: View > New View. For me this opens a new tab of the same document with a straight view. Then I can just close the old tab.
  3. You can already do some of this using Layer Effects. Like you can add colours/outlines/gradients/shadows etc. To add more complex styles and effects to text, like distorting it or making it 3D, you might be better off trying Affinity Designer, which is meant for working with vector objects including text.
  4. I just checked, and you can actually do this in the current beta. So in my earlier example you could have one master for the head, one and one for each of the layout options, and a content page would have the head master plus one of the layout options. In a way this could be more flexible than pure parent/child; you could have two different header style masters and two different body layout masters, and can mix and match to get 4 overall options, rather than having the child masters duplicated (if you see what I mean). Neither way seems to cover all the bases but having played around a bit I actually think the way it works in the current beta is the best way imho. Now if only they enabled placeholder content frames to master pages...
  5. This would be useful. Think of a simple example with a parent master page with some details (running head, page number, other design elements), and then three child master pages: each for different common types of layout in your document: say one with a passepartout image, another with a full-page text frame, another with a chapter start page. Then if you want to change the running head you can change the parent master page just once rather than all three (or more) master pages.
  6. If I have a document with many artboards, about 1 time in 10 if I alt-drag an artboard to copy it with its contents, I'll get a hard crash to desktop mid-drag (unexpectedly quit message appears). I can't reliably reproduce it, but when it happens I tend to lose a bit of work.
  7. Tolerance would match with the similar-feeling setting in the Flood Select tool. Or maybe something like "Grow to similar colours". In retrospect I understand what "snap to edges" is expressing: if there is an edge, the selection will go up to but not over it. But if there is no edge (eg with my Perlin noise example), the setting still does something comprehensible and potentially desirable, and in this case "snap to edges" is confusing (at least to me!).
  8. Yep, that's exactly it. Thanks! "Snap to edges" seems a weird name for that setting (it seems unrelated to each other "snap to…" option), but it's exactly the one I wanted.
  9. I'm used to using the Selection Brush in a similar way to Photoshop: as you paint, the selection grows with similar colours. I'm sure it usually works this way in AP as well, but for some reason right now it's not. Instead, the selection is laid down by the brush exactly as if I was painting, without any growth to nearby similarly coloured pixels. Is there some sort of "tolerance" setting I'm missing (cf. Flood Select), which has been set to zero?
  10. I have this issue too. Switching to Separated Mode hides the toolbar, tools, and contextual toolbar. Toggling those options in the view menu appears to do nothing.
  11. Ok, thank you that's really helpful! :)
  12. Thanks for your reply. A shame you don't support this ttf feature. Are there any plans to? When I looked it up, I noticed the TT manual says morx is "essential" for Arabic and Hindi. If not, or in the meantime, is there any way I can get these font glyphs into my Designer document? Thanks!
  13. I cannot get ligatures or ordinals to work. It works fine in TextEdit, Pages and InDesign, but not Designer. Examples attached for Zapfino (ttf shipped with Mac OS a while ago) with strings "Digestif" and "28th".
