CorelDraw was (is?) great in this feature. We published a newspaper in the late 90s and started a new one in 2019. Used Corel products before. Moved to Affinity and Adobe and it is still shocking to me some of the features we took for granted then are still not implemented in these other programs today. One of the killer features of Corel Ventura page layout program (RIP) was the paragraph tool which allowed for choosing non-contiguous paragraphs, like article subheads, and clicking on one style to change them all at once. In AP and Indesign, you have to format each paragraph on the same page/spread individually. What a pain. Also, since I'm on a roll, the late-90s ACT CRM was perfect for small business. Didn't try to do too much, but still networked and integrated with Outlook and Word for email and letters. In 1998. Today, EVERY CRM is too heavy and tries to do too much. The learning curves are worse than coding. SMH.

Hah! The rumors of Quark's demise have always been exaggerated.
I've been using it from the late 1980s until the current version. As well as ID. And other layout applications. I have diverse clientele which use a variety of software that I need to return my work in their preferred format(s). I have my preferences about which applications I use when it doesn't matter to the client or recommend to them for particular jobs where one is better than another.
For myself and the companies I have owned, the above has always been what I've had to, needed to, do. I'm glad I am not "stuck" using a single application or suite of applications.

Mike W077 got a reaction from Jane DK in APub: Please (weeping) help with the PDF CMYK Debacle
Thank you for the replies. I will try the suggestions (away from the office at the moment). But, bottom line, no one so far knows a straightforward fix. Hmmm. InDesign just leaves the values the same when exporting placed CMYK PDF content to InDesign PDF. APub changes them. If one of these works, at least we could work them into our work flow.

Do you have any idea of when we might get a fix for this?
I just finished a publication job and spent (wasted) a lot of time manually entering inset values.
It worked perfectly in V1--can't that code be transferred to V2?
On the Mac, it will increment only in 0.1 inch steps (and defaults to 1.0 inch) --we need 0.01 steps.

You seem far more knowledgable on this than I am. What I know is that this last issue we went back to InDesign and things seemed to go smoother at the press, even though it was a bit of a re-learning curve for us. I really like Apub and Affinity products to use, and like Serif as a company, but if the suite is going to be used for serious production work, at least for us, I feel that this needs to be fixed. Again, thank you for your thoughtful and helpful posts.

Yes, I know that is another option, which is why I said if you are working in V2 of APub, you do not have any other viable options.

I agree that it takes more steps & is far from ideal, but I just wanted to make sure manually entering small values was working for you & not an indication of some additional bug in the Mac version I was not seeing.

Agree completely with Mike W077--it's very frustrating and time consuming to have to manually enter each numeric value when doing fine adjustments to fit text. For example, if you enter an inset value (eg, 0.005") and you require more/less inset, clicking the up/down arrows defaults to 1.0" and increments of 1.0" . This requires you to then stop and manually type in your new inset value (eg. 0.006").
In V1, simply clicking on the up/down inset setting allowed you to quickly see your changes in small increments, and by toggling back and forth, you could decide which inset setting was best. Doing fine adjustments in V2 is very cumbersome and time consuming!
I'm not sure who actually would use insets in 1.0" increments (useless except for enormous layouts).
I'm hopeful that the next release will fix this problem. Is there anyway to know when the next release might launch?

On Windows, for both V1 and V2, in those fields when the document is in inches:
    Arrow up/down is .01 inch Ctrl+Arrow up/down is .001 inch

I also have the same problem and really need the fine inset control that V1 had. I'm also am on a Mac and as mentioned, can only get 0.1 cm inset with Ctrl+Arrow up/down
    Can AFFINITY please fix this???

To be clear, as mentioned above, in Mac OS: in V2 the increment is 0.1, while in V1 it is 0.01 inch.We really need that fine adjustment!
This is really needed--I hope someone at AFFINITY is listening.

I have to agree to this 100%, I think there are already many people who complain about the situation around 0,0,0,100. I love Affinity programs, but this and Assign and Convert only makes trouble.

I tested all the combinations (up/down arrow keys, mouse scroll wheel, and spinner controls) on macOS for the inset and gutter width fields. I confirmed the one regression Mike W077 reported and two issues that have been there since v1. The good news is that the effects of the arrow keys, scroll wheel, and spinner were all consistent.
    Text Frame panel> Insets:
No modifier = change by 1 mm, 1p, 1pt, or 0.01 in (v1) / 1 in (v2) - this must have been changed by accident Text Frame panel> Gutter Width:
No modifier = change by 1 mm, 1p, 1 pt, or 0.01 in. Context Bar > Gutter Width:
No modifier = change by 1 mm, 1p, 1pt, or 1 in which is inconsistent with the panel. But no change from v1. In all cases, Option changed by 1/10th and Shift changed by 10x. For picas, the modifiers should change by 1/12th or 12x.

For me on my Mac it is like the OP mentioned -- in V2 the increment is 0.1 while in V1 it is 0.01 inch.
EDIT: To be clear about this, I (& I think the OP as well) am talking about the up/down buttons in the Insets field, not the cursor up/down keyboard keys.

Hey everyone! We use Affinity Designer, Photo, and Publisher to produce a monthly publication. Use Designer for ad production, and then place the ads in Publisher. I would like to use my iPad Pro for more work with Designer and Photo, but my issue is font syncing. The fonts don't sync with the document to the iPad. I open an ad I want to modify, but the fonts are not there. This makes it impractical to use for this. Am I missing something simple on the font syncing issue? Does anyone have any thoughts or, even better, solutions? Thanks!
