non-rectangular image frames

Just select any shape from the tools, Ellipse or any other, crescent, cog.... then Under the "Layer" menu at the top select "Convert to Picture Frame". You then can place your picture in it.

I think I had to convert the Picture Frame to curves first but yes you can, and if you want to you can grab the edge with the Node Tool and bend it out or in.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
