JimmyJack Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 "Is snapping to vertices of another shape going to be added?" This already exists......... right ?? Quote

Aammppaa Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 It can already be done, but is a bit more cumbersome than it should be, at least if you want to snap a node in one object to a node in another, then you have to use the node tool. hl24a3 Posted January 9, 2018 Author Posted January 9, 2018 I'll try to explain what I mean, when I move the whole object (not in the node mode) I expect it to snap by one of it's closest vertexes to another of the other object's vertex. But then as aammppa said in the node it snaps. AndyQ 1 Quote
Staff MEB Posted January 10, 2018 Staff Posted January 10, 2018 Hi hl24a3, Welcome to Affinity Forums Without using the Node Tool it's not possible to do what you want. As far as i know there's no plans to implement the way you have described. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

But then as aammppa said in the node it snaps. It'd certainly be nice to have this in object/move mode or whatever it's called. I really like the snapping system approach in Autodesk 3DS MAX (although it's not perfect). It brings up a dialogue with a list of snap candidates, each with a checkbox, letting you snap to grid-points, pivot points, vertex, grid lines, bounding box, edges/segments and all manner of stuff (obviously some 3D stuff that's not relevant), but basically you can fine-tune your snapping so you can drill down to the exact snap type you need for an operation without other snaps overriding the one you want (e.g. Affinity's "snap to geometry" is too broad - it'd be nice to be able to snap specifically to things like centre points of lines, vertexes, various angles and tangents without other snaps taking precedence) Quote Windows 7 & 10 64-bit, Dual Xeon workstation(s) 64gb RAM, and single i7 laptop 32gb RAM
