Join has no effect..why?

Working with a simple shape with 2 selected end points. pressing "Join" has no effect.

 

Why?

I think you want "close curve" in this instance. I believe "join curve" joins two different curves to make one curve...

As retrograde said you want to close the shape, not joining two individual paths.

It seems that the algorithm Affinity Designer uses is set to join the closest nodes.
It should consider if there are start/end Nodes selected and, if they are, join those.

Yes, I agree this could be improved. If two shapes are selected (but not nodes) it should join the closest nodes as it's doing now. If there's a start/end node selected from each shape it should join those as Rui suggests.

Actually, I don't want "close shape" because that produces two nodes which I have to fix; they're asymmetrical or disconnected and for my purpose I just want a straight-line connection.

 

the shortest distance between 2 points is a straight line...right...?

I was referring to the video you posted stating that pressing Join Curves wasn't working. In the video you have an open shape, not two paths.

 

I agree that this could be improved and already said that in my previous post. I've also logged this as an improvement to the Join Curves function.

ah..my bad...I didn't intend to re-walk that ground. there is *so* incredibly much going on with this great application..I can imagine you are quite busy, and I thank you all for your stellar efforts.
