cornishdiver
I already own a previous version 1.3.4 and have downloaded the beta RC1 trial but it won't let me use the beta version without buying a new version? Very frustrating
vonBusing
Maybe you should start with updating your purchased Affinity Designer app to the current Mac App Store version (1.5.3) - it's a free update.

Staff MEB Posted November 29, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 29, 2016 Hi cornishdiver, moonchou The most up to date version of Designer is now on the Mac App Store (v1.5.4). The old betas and release candidates (RC) don't run anymore as they don't recognise the updated Mac App Store version. Open the App Store app, go to the Updates section (on top) and update Designer to the latest version. You can safely delete delete the old Beta or Release Candidate dragging it from the Applications Folder to the Trash and empty it. mfarooqi 1 A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
VIPStephan
the same problem Why would you want to run the release candidate version when you have the official full version already? The RC version is older than the official release because, well, it came out before the release of the official version.
Staff Patrick Connor Posted November 29, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 29, 2016 cornishdiver, Welcome to the Affinity forums, To explain, the Affinity Designer Beta will only run if it sees an installed Affinity Designer Release version that was released before it was built. You are suggesting that you have a beta RC1 that won't run. Well if it was a Designer Beta RC1 it should run, unless you have updated to an app store version built after the beta. May I suggest that either ( A ) you have perhaps downloaded the Affinity Photo Beta RC1 which will only run if you have bought Affinity Photo. or ( B ) you have actually already updated your Affinity Designer from 1.3.4 to the latest 1.5.4 and as there is no public beta built after that, no Designer beta will work with it for anyone. 1.5.4 is later than any beta and the right one to use. moonchou
The beta(1.5.4 rc1) added RightFont integration, why the Mac App Store (v1.5.4) did not ????
Staff Patrick Connor Posted November 30, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 30, 2016 I set the language of beta is Chinese, used to contrast the translation sometimes. ^_^ That's a good reason, but the pre-release beta builds will always stop working once the release build is installed. Staff MattP Posted November 30, 2016 Staff Share Posted November 30, 2016 The beta(1.5.4 rc1) added RightFont integration, why the Mac App Store (v1.5.4) did not ???? The App Store version added RightFont integration - but it did not add support for automating RightFont to install missing fonts from your document. Instead, it added the ability to single-click in RightFont to change the selected text items in Affinity Designer to be the font you clicked in RightFont and it should also now work properly to be able to drag a font from RightFont into Affinity Designer. Is that not working for you? :) Matt
