NFG
Using the Layers -> Merge Visible command, AP creates a new layer without removing the existing ones. I expect all visible layers to be merged into a one layer and then the individual visible layers be deleted. This is how basically every other application works. Is this the expected behaviour? (Merge Down works as I expect: combines two layers into one, so that only one remains.) Pixlers
TEcHNOpls
For me it's much better this way. I usually merge visible to save computing time so I had to disable some layers and then do 'copy visible' and 'paste as new layer'. Maybe the names is a bit misleading true, any ideas how to name this? Quote "I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK, I sleep all night, and I work all day..." Mark Ingram
As we're aiming for feature parity with the macOS version, which works in the same way, I'm going to move this to Feature Requests.
NFG
I totally get that, it makes sense. But I've been using graphics apps on PC that discard the merged layers as a rule (not even as an optional default, that's just how it worked) since PaintShop Pro 5 in 1998. A quick dialogue with a sticky checkbox would solve the problem pretty handily. =) (totally telling you how to do your job ;)
Pixlers
As we're aiming for feature parity with the macOS version, which works in the same way, I'm going to move this to Feature Requests. As a long-term Mac user, I don't get it what this has to do with macOS. This behavior is just wrong. Merge means to merge existing things together into a new one and not to make a new one and also keep the old things. NFG
carl123
Maybe a new, selectable, checkbox option in Preferences, could be added, like... When merging visible layers delete old layers Then people can get the function to work how they are used to it working, or like it does now Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Richard S.
I also stumbled on the "Merge Visible" option, as I was expecting it to merge all visible layers into 1 - but it instead merged all visible layers into a "New" layer. Not what I was expecting, but I wanted the merge to new layer option anyway :) I made a feature request for renaming it here: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/29380-list-of-minor-improvements-features/ HTH.
