Staff MEB Posted July 8, 2014 Staff Share Posted July 8, 2014 This is one of the changes in the new beta but... Where? Can't find anything related with this in the beta. Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
Staff MattP Posted July 8, 2014 Staff Share Posted July 8, 2014 Aha! So somebody does read my emails! ;) Basically, I implemented the functionality, but we didn't have any UI ready yet - so there's a temporary workaround to get noise on your objects: Select your object, choose a colour. Now go to the 'opacity' slider on the Colour page and hold down Cmd + Alt, then drag the opacity slider up/down with Cmd+Alt held down - this will actually call the commands to adjust noise instead of opacity! :) It's only a very basic noise - it's just that with it being a property of colour, it means you can vary noise at each step on a gradient fill/transparency to achieve effects you can't in other programs. We'll add a noise filter/adjustment in the future, so don't worry if it doesn't do everything you want - but hopefully it'll be good enough :) We'll get the UI working before the next version! Cheers, Matt
Staff MEB Posted July 8, 2014 Author Staff Share Posted July 8, 2014 Ah! So there's no UI! It wasn't the beer after all :P I can still carry on... Got it working per your instructions. I see your point and yes the more granularity/flexibility the program offers the better. Thanks Matt! folivio
The simple answer Meb is more beer. Then UI's will start popping up everywhere.

Figmatt
Just to say I used this feature today to make a pale grey look like shimmering silver and a pale-brown look like bronze/gold. It rocks! MattP
CartoonMike
After adding some noise, just add a teeny bit of blur FX and violà -- passable skin tone dependent on the color. :D MattP 1 Quote Mac OS X Catinlina, 2014 iMac, 3.5 Ghz Intel Core i7, Huion Kamvas Pro 22 Graphic Tablet, 16GB RAM, MacOS10.12 || Magic keyboard w/numeric keypad, wireless trackpad, Kengsington Edge Trackball || Flux Capacitor in a secure location --- I encourage kids to go ahead and play on my lawn. Staff MattP Posted November 12, 2014 Staff Share Posted November 12, 2014 Wow, that's a very good idea for making skin tones, Mike! I'll give that a try! :) Also, Matt, have to say that I'd not even thought of using it to make silvers and bronzes - great idea! :D
Figmatt
Here's my artwork for a Custom Printed iPhone 6 case (hat tip to mean bun.com for the original graphic idea) The effect has been lost a little in the downsize for this attachment. I can't wait to see how it comes out.
rui_mac
Can't make it work in the Colour page (is it the one on the left of the Swatches, Strokes and Brushes, in the standard layout?) No matter how hard I press Cmd+Alt and drag the Opacity slider (left/right, not up/down ;-) ), it always changes the opacity.I'm capable of adding noise in the colour dropdown of the Fill and Stroke thumbnails, though. But, if I have a CMYK color assigned to the object, as soon as I add Noise, it displays as RGB. Bug?
Staff MEB Posted November 13, 2014 Author Staff Share Posted November 13, 2014 Rui, click on the little circle right below opacity word in the Color panel to toggle to Noise. Yes there's there's a bug with CMYK colours when you add noise. We are aware of that one. It's already logged. rui_mac
Oh... clicking, not Cmd+Alt+drag.Gotcha!! :)
Staff MEB Posted November 13, 2014 Author Staff Share Posted November 13, 2014 @Rui, what color space were you using when you observed the bug? Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software
rui_mac
Let me check... Ok, it was sRGB. However, the color showed up in the document as a CMYK interpretation of the color. And, as soon as I started adding Noise, the color re-adjusted to display as RGB.
