In short: Not at all. V2 isn't backward compatible to V1. There is a warning if you open a file from an older version. If filters, effects and other enhancements are used that the V1 does not support or are coded differently in the V2, everything will be rasterised. I am not sure what you mean about the method @Komatös suggested having "no disadvantage." As mentioned it does have the potential to rasterize the entire document, which is certainly would be considered a disadvantage in some workflows. What am I missing? Yes, you can save the file in .psd format (method) or use c&p (method) to transfer all layers from one version to another. This works, yes, as long as only vector elements and pixel layers are exported or copied and pasted. Whereby with c&p the chance of transferring effect layers and adjustment layers w/o rasterizing is much greater.
