Line strokes dissapearing right after I draw them.

Recommended Posts

Whether it be the pencil, brush, pen, sometimes a stroke will be there right after I draw it but usually not. I can draw a marque around the strokes which allows me to see where they should be but they usually do not show up.

If I switch the stroke from a stroke color over to a fill color than the fill always comes up. I do not think this is user error since it never is a problem on 2.5.5 only 2.6 (2831.)

Hi @KipV,

Just checking the obvious...

  1. Is View → View Mode set to Vector?
  2. What weight is your stroke?

If view mode is set to Vector and your stroke weight is a sensible value but you still see the same issue can you upload a quick screen recording showing the complete UI so we can see what might be happening?

@Hangman Yes, view mode is set to vector. The weight was thin so I changed the default to something thicker. Not sure why it was set that thin. @MEB Keep selected was checked.

It seems to be working fine now. I'm not sure what was going on but sometimes the stroke would stay there after I drew it and sometimes it would disappear. If it happens again I'll pay closer attention and post a follow up.

There is something wrong/confusion with the Pencil Tool (Windows, Designer 2.6 beta)

If you set a stroke color and any size (e.g. 100px) the Use Line Style button is automatically switched on and the stroke is drawn correctly

If you then switch off the Use Line Style option the same stroke colour and size remains showing on the context toolbar but trying to draw something results in nothing being drawn. This is highly confusing when you can see there is a stroke colour and size set but nothing happens

You have to reenable the Use Line Style option for the pencil tool to work again or change the stroke size which automatically reenables it

Conversely the Pen Tool resets the stroke size to "None" if you switch off the Use Line Style option, which at least gives you some visual feedback (in the context toolbar) why the line is not being drawn

Just to add that the default size for the Pencil Tool is 1px on a new document but the Use Line Style is default to off. So drawing is going to do nothing on a new document until you change the stroke size or manually switch on Use Line Style. This will also add to the confusion of why is this damn pencil not working when using it for the first time on a new document

Try enabling Keep Selected in the Context toolbar... The line is drawn as evidenced by the additional layer added to the Layer's Panel but there is a bug where the stroke weight doesn't remain as set in the Stroke Panel when Use Line Style is turned off...

If you select the Layer in the Layer's Panel for the newly drawn 'invisible' line you'll see the Stroke Panel shows 0 pt (px) but the context toolbar still shows the correct stroke width...

Turn Use Line Style back on, draw a new line and the Stroke Panel width matches the Context toolbar again...
