Cropping multipage PDF impossible

Recommended Posts

1. Open a multipage PDF in AP (load all pages).

2. Try to crop one page and hit "Apply".

Result: The view jumps back to the previous view. Clicking the Crop Tool again shows the in step 2 intended crop area.

The treatment of the PDF differs between Windows and Mac...

  • On Windows, both pages are effectively treated as a single object from a cropping point of view, on Mac the Crop tool is greyed out so cropping isn't an available option...

  • On Windows, you can delete the Artboards and you'll be asked whether you want to 'keep the objects in contains', on Mac deleting and Artboard deletes it without being asked whether you want to 'keep the objects in contains'...

On Windows cropping does not work, even when you are deleting one page and content and trying to crop page 1.

I'm unsure of the expected behaviour but equally, if you create an Artboard in Designer, Edit in Photo, you can't crop the Artboard...

Perhaps a daft question but why would you crop a page?

I received a PDF having two pages, my job was to cut out or save the 4 images in it. Yes, there are better ways. Unfortunately some PDF creators cut images into small chunks, so I wasn't able to get a complete image directly from Acrobat.

Why not place the pdf and crop that?
Or use a pictureframe where you can also place pdf documents in.

As said, there are better ways. To be honest, it was an accident opening the PDF in AP. Simply thought "does not matter, just crop it there". And it would be the fastest way. ;)

Just to confirm, you do mean Affinity Photo, not Affinity Publisher?

Hi @NathanC,

Does the second issue need logging or is it already logged and what is the correct behaviour, I'm assuming the Windows behaviour...

Deleting the artboard via the DEL shortcut does prompt this warning message, whereas it is when the same action is performed via the 'Remove layer' button in the layers panel the message fails to prompt, i'll get this logged!

Thanks, @NathanC... just to add, using the 'Remove layer' button in the layers panel fails to prompt across all apps and all Personas on Mac if not already noted...
