Calvert Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 I export a file in AD, and not only is the scale wrong, its not even the right objects. It is supposed to be a complete sign and all I get is a triangle. If I export it as pdf, its fine, and had to use a competitors software to actually save the file correctly. Shadow Stone signtest.dxf Shadow Stone signtest.dxf
Calvert Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 This is the result that I get when I try to open it....
Old Bruce Posted September 9, 2024 Posted September 9, 2024 Did you mean to include the .DXF file twice, or did you mean to include the .afdesign file as well? Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
Calvert Posted September 9, 2024 Author Posted September 9, 2024 I attached it 2x by accident. Old Bruce 1
Hangman Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Hi @Calvert, The DXF opens in Designer and Publisher correctly at a scale of 1:3 in. Which software are you opening the Affinity exported DXF file in? Affinity Designer 2.6.3 | Affinity Photo 2.6.3 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.3 MacBook Pro M3 Max, 36 GB Unified Memory, macOS Sonoma 14.6.1, Magic Mouse HP ENVY x360, 8 GB RAM, AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Windows 10 Home, Logitech Mouse
Calvert Posted September 10, 2024 Author Posted September 10, 2024 It should open at an exact 1:1 ratio as well. 2ft x 8ft. I create it here and send to another PC in the back which is connected to my CNC or a waterjet. I shouldnt have to mess with resizing as these have to be pretty exact. Designer nor Publisher have ability to work on a CNC. I tried Adobe, Sai EnRoute, as well as Corel. If I save the same pdf file as a dxf in any of the others, it is fine. Ive double checked to make sure Im within the artboard, and Ive checked my settings, and dont see anything.

This is your file opened in the Autodesk viewer which shows it to be 95.998" x 24"... If the DXF is reopened in Designer then the 1:3 scaling is applied on import (I'm unsure why)... I assume your CNC and/or Waterjet are both using the DXF file directly but the software isn't happy with the DXF file... Staff DWright Posted September 20, 2024 Staff Posted September 20, 2024 The DXF file is opened using this scale as a default by design as the DXF file may have been created with scale units that we do not support and therefore we use this method to open the file without causing import conflicts Hangman 1

Come on. DXF has been a good cross software file for all my software's EXCEPT Affinity. You guys have issues over there. Personally, I wonder if they put in as much effort since being bought by Canva

None of the other software's have "conflicts" Your DXF file opens in Affinity Apps with the Units set to Inches... I think the reference is for units that Affinity Apps don't support. As far as I can tell the the scaling is a one-size-fits-all to cover all eventualities (though I could be wrong about that)... Practically I see no obvious reason for the scaling if the Affinity app can identify the unit used in the DXF and match it to one supported but equally, I don't know enough about how the Affinity apps interpret DXF files... Calvert Posted May 9 Author Posted May 9 Just for giggles, I tried in mm as well as inched=s. It can not be opened by any other software. Any update on fixing this?
