Crash using Move Line Begin/End with

Recommended Posts

This is a repeatable crash as well as an issue with the text cursor placement.

  1. Open the attached document - the text is justified, auto hyphenation is on, and column end zone is set to a value other than 0.
  2. Click in a line with a hyphen. Note that the cursor isn't drawn at the correct locations, it's off by couple of pixels here and there.
  3. Use the Move Line Begin shortcut, then Move Line End, and then Move Line Begin again. This will crash Publisher. The text doesn't need to be justified to crash Publisher.

This screen recording is from the 2.4 beta but it's not beta specific, that's just the version I normally use.

FWIW, the crash happens as soon as the value reaches 17.1 pt (1p5.1) or above...  Values below this don't cause the crash...

I can't confirm the Move Line Begin/End issue because I can't find the shortcuts!

Home and End by default, but I'm away from the computer so I'm not sure where they are.

I hunted through Settings but gave up because there is so much to look through. A search function for keyboard shortcuts would be helpful.

In Publisher they are under the Text Input category towards the bottom of the list...

Sorry, but I can't find the Text Input category. I'm on Windows if that makes a difference.

You can set the shortcut for these keys through Affinity Publisher > Settings.

But where? I'm not seeing them, on Windows.

Home and End work, but if I assign those to some shortcut they are not shown as already assigned.

It's under text input, not tools.

As shown in the screen recording but it sounds as though that option is missing on Windows...

I have tried to make a screen recording, but Game Bar can't see the setting dialog for some reason -- it just shows the mouse moving about but no dialog. Another bug? Something odd about the settings dialog?

But trust me, it ain't there in Windows:

Just for clarity as there appear to be differences between the way Mac and Windows display the setting options...

This is the full list on macOS... Text Input has its own category towards the bottom of the list and has nothing to do with the Tools options... I believe the option is simply not available on Windows.

I don't know what you mean. There are no shortcuts on that page.

It doesn't matter. My main purpose for being on this thread was to support the bug in alignment of the text cursor, but I got distracted by the shortcuts issue.

I might make a bug report, or several bug reports, in the Windows Bugs forum at some point.

You don't need to file another bug report for the cursor issue, this is what this thread is for, both the cursor issue and the crash bug. It doesn't matter that I created it in the macOS forum, your report of the issue on Windows would be used to log that it's for both platforms.
