How to reuse an adjustment layer as a preset?

Recommended Posts

I have a photo I applied an adjustment to and I want to apply the same adjustment layer to other photos.

  • I found I can copy my adjustment layer and paste it as a child layer onto other photos. That does the job (but is sometimes tedious as to copy it I have to find back where this particular setting is used).
  • But I see there is also a button "Add preset": I suppose it's there to help us reusing the same adjustment?
Problem is that once I have given a name to my adjustment preset, I have not found, neither by exploring the UI neither in the help, how I can reapply it?

I give it a new name and then… What do I do if I want to reuse this preset (in the same document or in another)?

Sorry if it's obvious but I don't find it by myself…

Sorry if it was unclear (I just set a tag) but I was in fact using Publisher.

The Add preset button is there in APub but the preset seems not to be recorded, even if I go later in the Adjustment panel which seems to be only present in Photo (thank you @Pšenda for the tip).

When I add the preset from the Photo persona, it is well recorded as you showed but [edit: not] if I add it not from Publisher. Is it a bug?

I'm away from my computers at the moment, but I don't recall Add Preset being present in Adjustment layers in the Publisher Persona. I'll look later.

Thanks for reporting this Outfi. You're correct, it only saves it if added through the Photo Persona in Publisher (on macOS). I'm checking if it happens the same on Windows and if the issue is logged.

It appears indeed strange that there is no "Choose Preset" button next to the "Add Preset" … but a "Merge" button, which not only is a quite different task but also seems to work with pixel layers only, doing just nothing if nested in a vector or group layer (even if the group contains pixel layers only) – while its function gets more weird if the adjustment is not nested: then "Merge" simply affects the first available pixel layer downwards in the layer hierarchy.

@walt.farrell, in APub V1 the Add button exists for the APub persona. – Did it change in V2?

I vague have a recent logged bug in mind for V2 and "Add preset" not reacting correctly, not sure about the app. – To access certain adjustments/settings you alternatively can use Assets in APub (though also for these exists a bug report for certain conditions/situations).

@Pšenda,
I'm not sure I understood your link (it points to this same thread) but when you click Add Preset from the Publisher, the adjustment is applied and visible in the Layers panel as your screenshot shows but it isn't added to the Adjustments panel (where presets are saved) which is the point the OP is raising. To see the Adjustments panel you must switch to Photo Persona in Publisher.

[EDIT] Thanks for the additional video. Now I see what you meant. On macOS it simply isn't added to the Adjustment panel even after forcing a panel redraw. I'm logging this.

Thank you for confirming.

Will you move this topic to the bug section (macOS), or would you like I create a bug report for it, or is it OK like this?

Thank you again @Pšenda. It looks like the macOS version is not doing what is expected even if it works (almost) well with Windows.

No, it is the same, as can be seen in my first screenshot.

FWIW, in APub V1 / macOS the button "Add Preset" works in APub's Publisher persona: The new preset appears in the Adjustment Panel of APub's Photo persona.

I think Serif should consider making the Adjustments panel available in Publisher (and Designer?) Persona as well, not just in Photo Persona. It is very strange that the user can create a Preset in the Publisher Persona, but if he does not switch to another Persona (for example, because he does not have APhoto), then he cannot use this Preset in any way - see also the note about the unavailability of Presets directly in the Adjustments setting.
