Hello : )

Just wanted to reach out and ask whether there is some kind of "Media Management" & some kind of "Video Editing" Software planned or already in Affinitys/Serifs Pipeline.

If not, both would be an idea of mine - these two could really add even more value to the existing suite.

Thanks & best regards

Hi @cz1230 and welome to the forums.

As things stand at present, no video editing software is planned by Serif.

If you need semi-professional video editing software, Blackmagic Design's DaVinci Resolve is my recommendation. This version is free of charge. If you want to do high-end video editing, the Studio version is the recommendation.

Yes, this has come up multiple times in the past and Serif has consistently indicated they are not pursuing any kind of video editing, 3D functionality or animation capabilities for the Affinity suite at this time.

Resolve is great for a lot of reasons, but it does have a learning curve.  If you happen to be on a Mac and have difficulty with learning to use Resolve, another good option would be Final Cut Pro (or possibly the free iMovie for more entry-level needs).

There are lots of other options out there as well, at various price points and with varied capabilities, on various platforms - HitFilm, Lightworks, LumaFusion, etc.  Blender has some built-in video editing capabilities as well and is also free, but it is not optimized for that task and also has a bit of a learning curve.

Hi @Komatös, @fde101
Thank you for welcoming me 😃

Furthermore, thanks for the infos and recommendations concerning video editing software.

Have you got any idea about a media management solution? Have you heard something from Serif around these kind of software possibilities?
Im probably thinking about something like e.g. Adobe Bridge (with some additional features) - but embedded into the current suite.

I am missing these kind of "managing"/"organizating" features a bit, when it comes to working with Affinity. Even though i thoroughly really like the solution Serif has created and have been working with it for years now already.

Thank you for you help & a good evening

@cz1230

I have to disappoint you here too. So far I know, Serif has no plans for a DAM solution. If you are looking for a free image management system, have a look around the open source area.

I remember seeing an older post just recently where staff has posted that they would actually like to release one, eventually.
Also, as an "anecdotal evidence", a staff member "liked" my post earlier this week where I was asking Serif to give us a "Bridge knockoff, but then some": :D

A usual warning though: Don't hold your collective breath, you could easily choke.

Yeah, but there will be no one else left to witness and confirm it… :80_smile_cat:

Could be a realistic view on that topic, absolutely. Perhaps something that combines After Effects and Premiere Pro or so ...
The big problem imho is, noone wants to compete with DaVinci Resolve, as it's free and offers a broad variety of tools already.

A good Digital Asset Management Software however would be something that Affinity could sell as an USP - if well thought and developed. Maybe the chances are higher now, as budget is larger...

Once again I'd like to chime in with a request for an Affinity version of After Effects. Canva has a "subscription version" of making video on their site that is nowhere near 'After Effects' software. Obviously people still pay for it so there would be a market if quality video/animation software was developed by Serif or existing software purchased and refined. I currently own V2 of all apps and would purchase this as well.
