Paint tool is missing in Affinty Photo2

Recommended Posts

Day,

Yesterday I worked with Affinity photo 2 and everything was OK.

Today I notice that the paint tool is missing from the toolbox in Affinity photo 2.

I don't remember I did something wrong
I did a studio reset, but the tool remains gone.

What do I have to do to get the paint tool back?

Kind thanks,

Do you mean the Paint Brush Tool, as indicated in my attached screen-grab, or something else?

If any tool is missing from your Tools Panel, you can put it back there via menu “View → Customise Tools”, then dragging the relevant tool from the pop-up panel to the Tools Panel, then closing the pop-up panel.

Note: Not all of the Tools are available in all of the Personas.

You’re welcome.

I had a quick look at the Help but can’t see any mention of whether the Tools Panel is affected by the use of menu “Window → Studio → Reset Studio” or not.

I’ve a suspicion that it’s not – the Tools Panel customisation pop-up has its own Reset button – so that information (if true) might be something which could be worth including in the Help somewhere.

(The arrangement of the Tools Panel is, apparently, covered by the Studio Presets so there seems to be some cross-over there.)

I frequently lose the Paint Brush tool because it is setup as the little flyout bunch of related tools. There is a little disclosure triangle on "related tools", we have to click and hold on the triangle to get the flyout.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Alternately, you can just click & hold on the tool icon & after a second or two the flyout will open.

I wish the triangle was larger so it would be easier to click on it, & that it was also a bright contrasting color so it would be easier to see.

You can have the Paint Brush Tool by itself, without a triangle, or you can have it as part of a group, with a triangle.

The tools with the triangles are actually tool groups, from which you can select a tool; a good way to save space in the Tools Panel but an easy way to ‘lose’ a tool if you don’t remember which group it’s in.

Note: You cannot create your own tool groups.

You can click-and-hold anywhere on the icon.

If you actually click on the triangle, the flyout will appear immediately; no need to "hold".

Or (new in V2), you can click the icon and drag down and to the right to expand the flyout immediately.

Thanks! I did not know about that new option.

But regarding the click & hold I guess because I have my tooltip delay set to a very short interval, I only have to hold for considerably less than 1 second for the flyout to open.

The flyout "hold" interval is not related to the tooltip delay. Short or long delay give the same flyout time.

I didn't really expect it to but for some reason fo me the flyout time in V2 is very short, considerably less than it is in V1, so short that unless I immediately click & drag down & right to open the flyout, it opens before I start the drag.
