DownUnder Photography
Hi, I had a Windows crash episode recently, (not related to Affinity Photo) but ever since I can't save my files to my Affinity Folder. Instead I get this error message. I didn't move the original files before the save and no matter what I do (rename etc) it won't save. It will export thankfully but it won't save. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running Version 1.10.6.1665
Staff stokerg Posted September 1, 2023 Staff Share Posted September 1, 2023 Hi @DownUnder Photography and Welcome to the Forums, Where is your Affinity folder stored? Is it on a Cloud/Network/External USB drive? If so, are you able to save the file locally?
DownUnder Photography
Hi, thank you for your reply. It is stored in the Pictures folder on the C drive
DownUnder Photography
I'm in Australia so, there's going to be a delay in responses, my apologies 🙂 I deleted the Affinity project folder and created a new one but, the same thing keeps happening, I don't know what to do

Can you also try starting a New Document in Affinity and seeing if your able to save that without the error.
Return
Since the OP is mentioning a system crash. Perhaps it is wise to first check the OS for errors and have windows try to repair it.https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-the-system-file-checker-tool-to-repair-missing-or-corrupted-system-files-79aa86cb-ca52-166a-92a3-966e85d4094e
DownUnder Photography
Yes, that was my first course of action. No repairs made as part of this process effected the issue I'm having. Return
DownUnder Photography
I see what it's doing now. It IS actually saving the file to the Affinity folder after all but then it reports that 'access to the file as lost do I wish to save to a new file' etc. I didn't have this issue before the last update, a code thing? Happy to send my machine specs if you need them. BTW. Just want to say that I absolutely love this software, a big fan who recommends it to a lot of people I especially love the one off, for life payment as opposed to the rent-an-app in perpetuum rort. Please pass on my thanks Cheers

If you don't want to upgrade you can use the version 2 programs until either Serif goes bust or the OS doesn't support it anymore.

Why would V2 quit working if Serif went out of business? If you needed to register it re-register the application, and Serif had not made provisions for the absence of the registration servers, you would have problems running the applications. v_kyr
Nowadays most software like E.T. calls home to perform a registration and/or to see if you are eligible to (re)register and also to inform you of possible updates.
