chrisb123
How do I develop two images in one document and layer them so I can develop them separately
NotMyFault
The best way is to develop them independently in separate files, and copy/ paste the resulting embedded RAW layer after finishing development into the other document. If you choose „RAW file (Embedded)“ as destination, you can combine multiple RAW files into one document. Carl's method works on iPad, too. It's a bit different usage between Photo and Publisher, but it works in either. In Photo: After Placing, select one layer and switch to Develop Persona. In Publisher: After Placing, double-tap on the image (on screen) that you want to Develop. Here's an example in Publisher 2 (beta, but it shouldn't matter): RPReplay_Final1688410059.mp4 Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. NotMyFault
another random UI issue: by chance I created a CMYK document, where you can happily place RAW files which automatically get converted to a pixel layer - but CMYK. So the develop persona refuses to work ("please select an RGB pixel layer before developing") which is quite difficult in an CMYK document. When you Place a RAW file in V2, you have a RAW layer, not a pixel layer and there's no automatic conversion. And when I try your setup in Photo 2 on my iPad, I can select that RAW layer and go into the Develop Persona with no problem. If I create a CMYK document & place for instance a NEF or RAF file in it, on the Context menu with it selected, I get a "Develop Image" button, which develops it into a pixel layer. However, if I ignore that button, with the placed NEF selected, I can switch to the Develop persona without incurring an error & I get the usual output options for linked, embedded or pixel. Can you maybe post a RAW file that shows this behavior, or better yet, a CMYK document with that file placed in it? I'm running V2 of AP if that makes any difference. NotMyFault
Steps: create new document in Photo use "place", navigate to media types section, navigate to "RAW" subfolder automatically created by Apple Photo and containing a virtual view of all RAW files choose the actual CR2 file from screenshot tap with pen to place it in 100% size I made a screen recording, but unfortunately to many personal images of people who do not consent to be shown in a public forum would get visible. I will remove the 2 screenshots, too for similar reasons. To crate a clean test case and screen recording without showing sensitive PII or people, I need much more time, maybe tomorrow. walt.farrell 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | Windows 10 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. Regardless, on the desktop version to get the RAW version of the file I have to use File > Export > Export Unmodified Original... or I get a JPEG version. I assume there is something similar for the iPad version, but I have not checked since I do not use the Apple Photos app on my iPad for anything.
