Hi All, I couldn't select any other topic. My question is, how can I re-set the dimension of the document in Affinity Designer Document Setup? The dimensions is inactive :(

@RBeci, because you've created an Artboard you can either drag the resize handles of the artboard itself or use the Transform Panel to enter exact Width and Height dimensions to resize it.

The Document Setup sizing only applies to non-artboard documents.

I moved out the layers from the artboard and the resizing was successful

An alternative would be to delete the Artboard and press the “Keep objects” button when prompted.

Interestingly not an option given on Mac. If your objects are nested in the artboard, which they are by default, then deleting the artboard does just that, it deletes the artboard together with its nested content without the Keep Objects option.

If you first drag the objects so they are no longer nested then deleting the artboard will again delete but maintain the objects...

That is interesting.

I had a quick look in the Preferences but I can’t find anything that’s related to this (which doesn’t mean it’s not in there somewhere).

If there isn’t an option for it, I wonder if this difference is deliberate for some reason.

Definitely not a preference option...

I'm really not sure, maybe someone from the moderation team will know the answer though...

It is, but only if you use the Delete keyboard key with the artboard layer selected. If you right-click on the artboard layer in the Layers panel & choose Delete from the popup menu, you do not get the Keep objects option & everything in the artboard is deleted along with the artboard layer.

I assume it is a bug, but it has been like that for forever, as far back as I can remember with the V1 version.

So it is, probably the first time I've ever used Fn Backspace, which acts as the delete key on a Macbook Pro keyboard, I'd only tried it using the backspace key on it's own, so now I know... :)

I suspect a right click on the artboard layer, selecting delete doesn't work because it has the backspace keyboard shortcut assigned to it which, as far as I can tell, can't be changed though logically physically selecting the option 'should' of course work ...

I am not sure what you mean by that. The 'delete' artboard function should have the same options regardless of how it it is invoked. That there is a non-alterable shortcut assigned to the delete function should not have anything to do with it.

@R C-R, that’s exactly what I meant in the second half of that sentence but it seems wrong that the default, uneditable keyboard shortcut for delete when the artboard is selected is the backspace key rather than the delete key… but as mentioned above, simply selecting delete should also work…

On full-sized U.S. English Apple keyboards, there is no "Backspace" key, just a Delete key. Thus, I am still not sure what the default, uneditable shortcut has to do with this.

The key labelled Delete on the full size US keyboard is actually the backspace key, the key that sits in the bottom left corner of the group of nine keys directly above the arrow key is the delete key.

You can test this with text, if you insert a cursor in the middle of a line of text and hit the key labelled Delete on your keyboard, if it deletes text to the left of your cursor then it’s a backspace key and is labelled as such on a UK full size keyboard. If you hit the key in the bottom left of the group of nine keys sitting above the arrow keys and it deletes text to the right of your cursor then that’s the Delete key…

My point was simply that when right clicking a layer in the layers panel the Default, non editable keyboard shortcut used for the Delete option is the backspace key, not the delete key (certainly when using a UK English version of the Affinity software), despite it being labelled a delete key on a US keyboard.

On a UK MacBook Pro there is no dedicated delete key only a backspace key… to instigate the true Delete function requires the use of Fn Backspace so the default keyboard shortcut shown is in the context menu for Delete is incorrect and equally explains why hitting the backspace key doesn’t present the option to keep layers when attempting to delete an artboard but maybe it behaves differently on a US keyboard layout, I’m not sure…

It is the forward delete key. It has a different keyboard symbol & UI icon from the Delete key. Two keys, two related but different functions, neither of which requires the use of the fn key.

I still do not understand how this non editable keyboard shortcut is relevant to why the option is only available when using the keyboard key & not the right-click menu.

Agree. I would rather say that because the shortcut key for the right-click command is unambiguously identical to the delete key, it is a MUST that both work the same way.

And yes, also in V1 pressing the key opens the dialog + "keep objects" option, whereas using the right-click menu does not but deletes all.

??? Pressing the physical key opens the dialog but choosing Delete from the right-click menu does not.

And to add a further twist, if the right-click menu is open then pressing delete/backspace key does not open the dialog. :D
