Whilst editing Text the "mouse pointer" will be changed to the Text Caret. You will need to click on the Move tool to get the Arrow tool back. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

When I loose track of where the caret is I just use the Shift key and either one of the up / down Arrow keys to highlight the line of text. Personally I would not want a superimposed arrow covering up any of the text. Are you saying you cannot see the blinking text cursor (a vertical line at the insertion point in a block of text) that almost all apps with text editing/creation features use for that? The blinking text caret I see quite well. It's when wanting to move the caret to another location I can't see it. The pointer is small and white, and in fact totally disappearing on plain white background. Quote

I'm a little confused by this - on both Windows and macOS my cursor when editing text is black - both the flashing caret within the text and my cursor itself: Are you able to provide a screenshot/screen recording showing this for me? Here is a picture of my screen. The long line in black is the carrot. The small pointer in the "i" is the mouse. It's in white, and stays white if I move it. V2, win11 Quote
laurent32 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 I don't know if this helps, but on macOS system one can change the pointer's look… I guess there is the same possibility on Windows ? Maybe you can reset it in your system prefs ? laurent32 Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Maybe (if possible) you can try to change the cursor look (in the system) and see if you get it to work as it should ? If it is the same wrong behavior then it is probably an Affinity problem ? Thanks for providing that for me - I've double checked this on both Win10 & Win11 here, when moving the cursor over the white background, it is shown in black, when moving over black text this changes to white, such that it can still be seen, then goes back to black when moving over the canvas once more. The below screenshots are taken on Windows 10, but as above I experienced the same behaviour in Windows 11 - Can you please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R), paste the following and press OK: main.cpl In the dialog that opens, please select Pointers and provide a screenshot of your settings here, then select Pointer Options and provide a screenshot of this also for me. Many thanks once again Quote

Dan C Posted April 5, 2023 Posted April 5, 2023 Many thanks for providing those for me - everything looks correct in terms of your settings, however I've found multiple reports (14 pages!) online from Windows 11 users of this issue occurring within Word, web browsers etc, so I don't believe this is an issue with Affinity at this time. Can you please try the possible fixes listed below and let me know if this resolves the issue for you? https://thegeekpage.com/fix-mouse-cursor-keep-disappearing-inside-text-fields-documents-search-box-and-address-bar-in-windows-10/ vita12 1 Quote

SamboNZ Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 I'm having this problem too, but it ONLY happens in Affinity Publisher. Quote
Dan C Posted September 9, 2023 Posted September 9, 2023 Sorry to hear this @SamboNZ, as covered above the OPs issue was related to Windows settings and not the Affinity apps themselves. Have you tried any of the steps in the link I provided previously? Quote
SamboNZ Posted September 11, 2023 Posted September 11, 2023 Hi Dan, Changing the cursor to 'beam_r' does work around the issue, but the fact remains that, at least for me, this problem occurs with the default cursor and is only present in Affinity Publisher. The issue is not present in Word, any other applications or anywhere else in Windows (including at least Affinity Designer). This problem is also present when using the following cursors: - beam_l.cur - beam_m.cur Some additional information I can add is that when using the following styles, it appears that the 'fill' of the cursor is turned white, leaving only the outline visible: - beam_i.cur - beam_il.cur - beam_im.cur This is not typical behavior in Windows or other applications and again suggests something specific to Affinity Publisher. This is actually the first time I've seen this issue on any application, anywhere (and I've been fixing computers professionally for over 28 years). Quote
